  1. 1. Do you tip for pizza delivery?

Recommended Posts

I just realised that nobody I know in the UK tips for pizza deliveries, nor do the drivers stick around to even give a hint they want one but on TV and movies they always do. Is this just a UK thing, or am I and my friends just really rude?

In the UK, its different to America as we have strict minimum wage laws. Delivery drivers are paid the minimum wage + fuel usually (some also supply a company car/scooter, while some expect you to use your own car) and do not need tipping more than anyone else working minimum wage. American companies tend to pay the delivery person hardly anything and they are expected to make the rest of their money through tips.. the empoyer doesnt make up the difference the majority of the time though if they dont raise enough tips.

No-one i know actively tips for deliveries in the UK, except the odd pound when it comes to just under £10, £15, £20 etc.

Not only do I not tip but, where possible, I pay with a card in advance so I don't need to mess around with cash. I don't believe in tipping anyone - it's the employers responsibility to ensure that their staff receive consistent pay and I presume that the staff costs are built into the prices I pay. I don't see why someone should get a tip for just doing their job.

I always tip delivery guys after going along with my (ex) friends on their deliveries, and if they did not get tipped, that customers next delivery got the most disgusting things done to it before it was given to the customer

I know a very small majority of people are like that, but you don't know if yours is one of them

Thats the problem, most employers (in the US at least) do not pay delivery people what they deserve to be paid, they actually rely on tips that most people give out so they can pay the employee less. In a perfect world, you are right, we wouldn't need to tip a delivery driver. But in the actual world (again, in the US at least), we either pay tips to help the delivery driver, or we shaft the delivery driver by not giving them a tip therefore directly influencing how much they go home with. The employer doesn't care whether we tip or not, its the driver that gets the short end of the stick when you do not tip them.

Depends on if I get charged the right amount for the pizza.

I noticed that pizza places like Papa John's and Domino's has a service charge which they explicitly say is not a tip. That bugs me seeing as if it is a service charge ($2) to pay the guy that delivers then you are taking money I would tip on my own to the guy and expecting me to tip normally. Instead of my $10 pizza with say a $3 tip is 12 ($10 + $2) plus the same tip? Not happening I am tipping the diff of what I would have tipped minus the service charge.

That's why I stopped eating pizza long time ago. If my fiance wants pizza. I go directly to the restaurant. I don't believe in quality delivery anymore.

This whole tipping business is weird. You don't tip the bloke in McDonalds or KFC so why tip the bloke at a restaurant or PIzza delivery. Here in my town you pretty much have to pay for delivery of Pizza, Chinky or Indians so why should I tip. It's up to the delivery driver to have the job as most of the ones here are doing it for extra money on the sly, or they are on the dole and need to pay for the misses fags.

I don't tip at restaurants - I know it's nearly mandatory in the US but I live in the UK - the waiters get paid for the work they do and if they don't think it's enough, go and get a job in Tesco. I'm paying way over the odds for a meal as it is and the owner knows this, why then must I pay some of the waiters earnings over and above. I know how much ingredients and leccy for the lights and ovens cost. So I am not forking out extra just cos you did yer job. No

Sort of different when you get your food inside the place than when you have a guy drive from where ever to your house. There is a lot of danger with that, from traffic to not knowing if when you step foot on the persons property what will happen.

Your right, like that pizza delivery guy who got murdered in Boston. However that isn't my problem.

Also McDonald and other shop worker to face a lot, if not more abuse too.

Not at all lol, but just something for people to think about hehe. I know I would be nervous walking up to a bunch of strangers houses all the time. Well, not nervous all the time, but I'm sure there wouldn't be a day where I wasn't nervous at least once. But on the plus side, you could end up in one of those porno situations, where a hot girl can't pay for the pie ;P

I ordered a pizza today. The price was €11,25. Normally I would round that up to €13 or €13,50 if I'm in a good mood. This time around I opened the door and the delivery guy was talking on his phone. He kept talking on his phone while handing me over the pizza without saying anything to me. Gave me the bill, while mumbling the price. So I decided, for the very first time, not to tip him at all. Well okay, I rounded it up to €12,50 for convenience sake.

I can't deal with rude behavior like that...

I worked for Pizza Hut a long time ago.. i know a lot of drivers like to get the people who tip good first... so maybe tipping good gets your food to you faster. The drivers always knew who tipped and wanted those deliveries lol

For the convenience of not having to go get the food yourself. If you don't tip, you're just a cheap prick.

Tho only time you don't tip is if the business you're buying from has a strict no-tip policy. But those are few and far between.

QFT

Exactly, and i'm from the UK. So what if people are on minimum wage. At the end of the day if you're spending the best part of ?15-?20 on some sort of take out food what's a pound or two here and there to make someones crappy job a little more bearable. Even more so if the joint i've ordered from doesn't charge for delivery, if i'm asking someone to bring my food to my house because i can't be bothered to go down there and pick it up myself then yeh, of course i'd tip, they're providing me a service.

    • Epic fail, should've added an eSata port on the back, also if the memory/NVME are soldered then they're hardly gonna sell any, first thing most people do with their Steamdeck is, or used to be, replacing the NVME with a 2TB one.
