  1. 1. Do you tip for pizza delivery?

No, that might be to cover the gas. Might be. It could be the shop taking some money for you being lazy. It's definitely not going to the delivery guy's wage.

If you live in the U.S, you tip.

No. They are getting paid, and part of the delivery charge does indeed go to the driver. I'm not going to tip some kid $2-3 extra for an unskilled job. I believe they make around $4/hr + tips and a certain %age of the delivery charge. Let's assume they make, lowball, 5 deliveries an hour. If each person tipped $2 thats $10/hr + their wages + %age from the delivery charge. Hence why I don't tip.

when i worked as delivery boy, i ask if they want their changes back (some people will ask even before you put the money into the pocket); whenever theres is no tipping involved, i make a mental note, then next time they want something delivered, they will be on the bottom of my list to be delivered

Aside form most pizza places being garbage, this is also why I eat-out/in or make my own pizza :)

I absolutely do tip, and I tip quite well actually.

When I was younger, my father's second job besides being a truck driver was he would deliver pizzas on the weekend. Since my mom also worked at the pizza place as the cashier, I was always with them while they worked every weekend. More often then not my father would take me with him on the deliveries, and I would see first hand how little people would tip him, and despite what many have said in this thread, tips are absolutely the majority of a delivery persons income. It is the difference of an awful job to a bad job. So tips mean everything to delivery people. I have, nor will I ever, forget this fact, so I not only tip, I tend to tip generously.

Not only do I not tip but, where possible, I pay with a card in advance so I don't need to mess around with cash. I don't believe in tipping anyone - it's the employers responsibility to ensure that their staff receive consistent pay and I presume that the staff costs are built into the prices I pay. I don't see why someone should get a tip for just doing their job.

Your right, like that pizza delivery guy who got murdered in Boston. However that isn't my problem.

Also McDonald and other shop worker to face a lot, if not more abuse too.

No, I don't. Never have done.

No we don't. That's why there's a $1.50 delivery charge...

Yes I know, to each their own. But some of you make me sick. I am so glad I don't have any friends like some people, you cheapskates! Do some of you even know what is gratitude? The $1.50 does not go to the driver in most cases. The driver, as some of you here apparently don't know (or don't care - should be more appropriate), go through rain, storms, blizzards, snow, potential robbery, etc. It's not as simple as just "delivering a box" like some dude said earlier. Get a grip, you tightwads. I bet most, if not all of you who don't tip never worked in a job that allowed tipping, you're stuck in your own egocentric world. You rely on it to make a living because companies take advantage by lowering your wages. If you are stuck with that job, do you have other options? And you won't tip the poor guy because you don't agree with the business model of a multi-billionaire corporation? What is $3 to you, anyway? A good way to answer that may be to look at the computer you're reading this right now and ask yourself how much it cost you.

Threads like this make me sad.

not only pizza places, i worked at a chinese restaurant thats pretty famous in the neighborhood, i can make about 100-200 in tips in one day if i work a 10hr shift for delivery

the restaurant is pretty good to the delivery people, they have an active "do not deliver" list of phone # and address of people gave delivery people poor experiences. on one occasion some dude is refusing to pay the delivery charge because he said he could just walk over and pick up the food, so there is no reason to pay for the delivery; i simply take the food back to the restaurant and tell him to pick it up himself. of course he called again for delivery, but our nice phone receptionist told him nicely that he is now on the "do not deliver" list, that he would need to come down and pick up the food if he decides to be a cheap ass.

I always tip 20% for delivery. Sometimes more if the weather is bad or it's during rush hour. Even if there is a service fee of $1.50 or more, I know the delivery guy isn't seeing most or any of it. Most of the time, however, I just call ahead and pick up the food on my own. When the restaurant is only a few blocks away it takes less time and costs less money. In restaurants I often tip around 22% and I try to pay for it in cash. If the service is bad I'll tell the waiter but still tip them at least 15%. (I figure it's better to tell them why than to get some sort of satisfaction in screwing them over.)

$4/hr + the tips you're not giving them?

Don't forget, they pay for their car and gas. Even at $15/hour, that's a crappy job. In NYC, at $20/hour - the cost of the car it's not a great job for the service industry.

A good way to answer that may be to look at the computer you're reading this right now and ask yourself how much it cost you.

Well, I know the computer cost a lot less than the car they deliver the pizza in.

I don't tip for pizza delivery. I already paid for delivery as part of the purchase - not to mention that the minimal wage here is much better than in US, and companies are forbidden to count tips as part of the minimal wage (so I can be sure that delivery guys get at least the minimum).

Not to mention another thing: how am I supposed to tip if I order online and pay with the card? I usually don't have any cash at all. London is like 99% plastic, even some street vendors have card terminals.

Nice you make completely inaccurate assumptions of me based on whether I tip or not. Here is in the UK it isn't customary to tip at all. AFAIK none of my friends or family have ever tipped the delivery guy for any takeaway.

first and foremost: http://www.hytip.com (not a typo)

That website will tell you what most of you obviously don't know.

-delivery charges dont go to the driver, it is a charge put in place by the pizza place to help employ their drivers. (ie their salaries)

-most pizza delivery people in the US make less than minimum wage. i make $5.50 and hour so tips are necessary for me to live.

-i put miles on my own car to bring you your food. the value of my vehicle steadily drops every day to do you a favor. i also pay for oil changes, brakes, tires, etc etc etc. You feeling like my company should pay me more doesn't change the fact that they don't.

i could go into much more detail but just read the stuff on the website. i would like to make this point though even for the people who say that they do tip but only 2-3 dollars or "less than a server". (which doesnt really make sense, but meh). Let me break this down for you.

I make $5.50 and hour. if everyone who I deliver to tips me $2, and I take 20 runs in a night, that means I've made $40 at work that night. I usually spend about $20 in gas every night for an average 20-run night. I've now made $20. I also usually work a 10-hour shift. I made $2 an hour in tips. Add that to $5.50/hr and ive made $7.50/hr. Minimum wage. To bring you your food so that you can sit on your couch and watch tv instead of driving into town. Minimum wage to put miles on my car. Minimum wage to deal with all the *******s who don't tip. Minimum wage to drive into the ghetto and risk getting robbed or beaten up or killed. There is no sane person who would do this job for minimum wage. Therefore its up to the people who arent *******s to make up for the rest of people. Its ridiculous how un-thankful people are.

Imagine this if you will.... Your FRIEND calls you up at 12am and says "Hey dude I'm hungry but im too drunk to drive to get something to eat. Will you please pick me up something and drive it the 10 miles over here for me? I'll pay you for the food when you get here." First off, would you even do it? And if so, most people would be demanding gas money or compensation of some kind for doing such a big favor for their friend. How much would it take you to bring him food? $2? $5? Or would you be demanding like $10 or more? Think about that next time you order pizza. Yes your driver makes a salary but its server salary. He/she has just done you a FAVOR. Show some appreciation.

And the biggest point i'd like to make here..... is don't be a dick. Why use an opportunity to make someone else happy to do the exact opposite? To directly and on purpose irritate and anger someone. If it's expected where you live to tip and you don't, you are just being a very negative and rude person. No matter how its justified in your head, no matter what your reasons are, you are still being directly mean to someone. DIRECTLY doing harm to someone when tossing a few bucks and making someone happy is an easy alternative. Makes me kind of ashamed for everyone. Everyone only thinks of themselves and doesnt give a damn about the next guy.

And this obviously just goes for people in the US. I've heard tipping isnt really such a big thing in other places as it is here.

when i delivered back home in the UK few people tipped but that was fine because there was usually a charge built into the price anyway.

So i'd get 1.20 per delivery or something...generally if the order came to 19.75 the people would let you keep the 25p anyway so it worked out fine really. Certainly didn't expect people to be giving me a few quid every time but it would have been nice of course!

    • Can you still click his nose in the about box?
    • In that case this product has no value to me. I'd rather use older Creative SB that were better in my opinion or onboard audio chip.
