Mac OS X Lion Discussion

Nope, there is no cut and paste.

If you expect some issues, then why are you complaining? You're using a developer preview. Wi-Fi doesn't work for me when I wake up my MacBook... I have to physically turn off Wi-Fi, turn it back on and then reconnect. It's annoying but it's the price you pay for using unfinished software.

maybe i ain't finish yet..i expect every minute of possibly crash or something else,w-fi is just unacceptable from the starting point. Come on,this is the most essential part of the OS..if you get what i'm trying to say perhaps not ! i know the consequences of using unfinished software but it's fundamental feature. For Other,i just can careless about it.

No, Wi-Fi is not the most essential part of an OS. And once again, this is not intended for people to be using on an everyday basis, it's intended solely for developers to get some of their apps ready for Lion. There is no focus right now on making sure every last feature works, or making sure animations are smooth. If you're having Wi-Fi issues, then quit using this build and wait for a newer one to come out.

It's a problem with your specific model, I would assume. I don't have problems with wi-fi here. If you have a problem, report a bug with your exact model on the bug tracker; I assume you know where that is.

Just noticed that Apple has *finally* given up on the "Airport" name for Wi-Fi:

I notice this (also noticed they are replacing "Spaces" with "Desktops") and I'm not a fan of it. I actually liked the AirPort name.

Merge folders, yes. Cut/paste, not sure. I'm not looking at my Lion installation right now.

Merging is great enough! Right now, it's extremely disruptive to workflow to have to switch to a command line to merge two source directories. This alone will probably make it worth the purchase.

do you believe that we have to wait for final releases so that Mozilla and others release updated versions of their programs with the new GUI settings such as lighter grey, iOS scrollbars and full screen button? I wouldn't expect Firefox 4 to update now though :D maybe by Firefox 5. There are some programs which are fine without tweaks, maybe they use native apis for the GUI?

@Brian simply by pressing CMD+Shift+4+SPACE to take the screen we want.

definitely will, but no surprise by changing the name to wi-fi since lion is borrowing hell lot of feature or name from it.

luckily it's not on the same partition,or else time machines is about to do the job all overall again. hmm..your explanation making me look bozo. no offense . i would even feel bad for some developer which create app that mainly working with internet connection..have you think about it? certain application definitely require wi-fi for it to work..

I've had a insider source tell me that Mac OS XI is codenamed after dogs so...

was your insider your friend's uncle that herd it from the postman's grandmother's twin sister which herd about this from her carer's friend's brother that works as a janitor. (Y)

Then they'd use a wired connection.

Any new icons in Lion?

All Sidebar icons are grey now (iTunes 10 style) and can be set to multiple sizes: 16, 24 and 32 pixels. There are new icons for new features obviously like "All my Files", "AirDrop", "Launchpad" etc. But the overall system set has remained in the same style. I don't expect Apple to introduce new folder icons because the Mac OS X Leopard set works perfectly with new Aqua as well.

Beyond that Apple bumped the maximum icon size to 1024 x 1024 pixels. We have one example of that: Preview.

For those who have been playing with dev preview: Have you people found any major bug that makes system unusable?

So far no. The first Developer Preview is remarkably stable and pretty much everything seems to work. I've noticed some bugs with full screen apps and with them not returning to normal windowed mode properly. Overall the interface seems a bit less responsive than Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the new theme is still rough around the edges.

I haven't ever used a first Mac OS X Developer Preview before that felt this finished. As it seems Mac OS X Lion is pretty far ahead in the development cycle at this point.

    • The consumer ESU is ending in 4 months. LTSC isn't now, never has been, and never will be for consumer use, it is for OT usage - plant machinery, medical devices, manufacturing equipment etc. LTSC requires a Microsoft EA. You can't legally obtain LTSC to run on your PC at home.
    • Hmm actually looks decently interesting!
    • Being on GitHub doesn't make something safe. Like any unofficial scripts to do x or y this caters to people with just enough knowledge to be dangerous. If you want to do what this does, and you actually know what you're doing then write your own script (or maybe just add the reg keys yourself) if you don't have the ability to read and understand what a script is doing, and especially don't run it with elevated privileges. Or in this case just use an MSA, sign up the normal route, and stop trying to push water up hill
