Mac OS X Lion Discussion

Recommended Posts

You have to extract the DMG from the Installer package contents and restore it a USB-stick, SDHC card, DVD or whatever. I'm trying it as we speak.

Last time around I really did get a good look at Mac OS X Lion performance-wise because I did an upgrade from Mac OS X Snow Leopard. :/

Edit: Yup, the DMG is bootable once you restore it to another drive.

Thanks I'll try that tonight :D

how so?

An option in System Preferences?

Finally got the new Lion build running on my MacBook - lot's of bugs have been addressed, some new ones are present, and some haven't been fixed. Overall, performance seems to be improved.

Does anyone know where the download is for Java for this build? Thanks.

Safari looks nicer in this build. I love the new window chrome, light grey with dots on them like the folder icons.

The animations seems less smoother though compared to DP1. However, I'm not experiencing the stability issues PyX complained about.

What exactly is the function of the Launchpad icons shaking? Unlike iOS I can drag them around in Mac OS X Lion while they're not shaking as well...

Maybe I'm missing something...

I still don't get why some windows animate while opening while some others don't.

Screens please?

It's hard to show the very minor change with a typical screenshot, so I had to zoom in quite a bit:

Leopard and Snow Leopard had a glossy, plastic look, whereas Lion has a "speckled" appearance.

After rebooting, things were a little more stable.

The window animations is a GUI issue. They need to either remove them all, or apply them to every window. Honestly, they?re damn sexy when they?re there. It reminds me of when Gimpy pops up in The Undergrads in Nitz?s OS 9 computer.

Flipping through pages to iCal is screwed up. Sometimes when you go back in time, the animation actually flips to the next page, but it shows you the good thing, and vice versa.

What?s new in Safari in DP2 that wasn?t there in DP1? I think I?m missing something.

What I don't get is why Disk Utility animates when opening it for example, but Address Book doesn't. Makes no sense. The Preview toolbar icons look weird too, way too heavy drop shadows.

What I don?t get is why Disk Utility has large, colorful icons in its toolbar, when Finder, Safari, Mail and Preview don?t.

I just puked in my mouth a little. That looks horrendous! :x

Sorry for the private question, but what did your puke look like?

Coincidently, mine looked EXACTLY like the new iCal texture : rusty brown with unidentified dots floating around.

Hasn't been updated since ages that's why...

Yeah, while they?re at playing with ZFS and TRIM support, maybe they should do a major UI/GUI overhaul with this app. It?s starting to be urgent.

    • Microsoft resumes forced Copilot app installation on some Windows PCs by Usama Jawad Late last year, Microsoft planned to begin the automatic installation of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on certain Windows PCs. However, in March 2026, it disabled this process due to a technical issue and informed customers that it would let them know when it would resume. It seems like that was only a temporary respite, as the Redmond tech giant has started the forced installation of the app on eligible devices. In an update on its Message Center for IT admins, Microsoft has informed customers that it is resuming the automatic installation of the Microsoft 365 Copilot on commercial Windows PCs that have Microsoft 365 apps already installed. What this means is that if you have Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more installed on your Windows PC through a Microsoft 365 license, you'll likely see the Microsoft 365 Copilot app pop up in your Installed Apps section soon, too. Fortunately, IT admins do have some control over this rollout. If they choose to opt out, devices in their tenant won't automatically get the dreaded Copilot app. However, phased rollout via feature flags has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June: Feature Flag1: started Jun 4, expected to finish June 10 Feature Flag2: expected to start on June 11, expected to finish on June 17 MSGraph schema rollout: expected to start on June 18, expected to finish on June 24 Feature Flag3: expected to start on June 25, expected to complete by July 1st Microsoft hasn't detailed what the process is to toggle the feature flags in its Message Center, and its public support page does not seem to mention it yet either. The Redmond tech giant has encouraged IT admins to let users know beforehand so they aren't caught by surprise to see a new app seemingly installed without manual interaction or their consent. Users who already have the app installed or are based in the European Economic Area (EEA) are unaffected by this move, which Microsoft has understandably flagged as a "major change".
