Hey Everyone,

Its been a little while since I posted an update, mainly because we have been really hard at work on our website, and Fusion OS. So I am going to start out by saying that it does not look like Fusion OS Beta 3 will be ready for a Wednesday release. Now, it is still possible that we will be able to release it on Wednesday, but basically it all depends on how productive of a day tomorrow is, and if we can iron out the bugs. We want to have this be a very stable release and almost feature complete. But on a better note, tomorrow we will be launching our new Support Website which is beefed up and ready for Beta 3, and ultimately 1.0! And another thing that I was thinking was what if on the Fusion OS website we sold custom flash drives with the Fusion OS logo, and have Fusion pre-installed on them. What do you guys think? Would anyone be interested in purchasing such a thing? The price would be between $10-$15 because of the cost of getting the flash drives made, unless we get a better deal on them since this project makes no revenue, we are talking with USB Memory Direct and the person we are in contact with is trying to get us a discount, which then would let the selling price go down more to around $9.99. I will post here tomorrow regarding the release of Fusion OS Beta 3, and information about the USB drives, and support website. So, would anyone be interested in the flash drive idea, or is it not a good idea?

Yes I have been having quite a few intermittent issues with the site, now it seems to be working again but I will be sure to find the cause and patch this up. CD/DVDs are a great idea also I will look into those aswell as you said it would be a cheaper option. And to answer your question about a Wubi-type installer, we are working on something along those lines, and testing it out, if all goes well it should be included in fOS 1.0.

Also Fusion OS Beta 3 has not been released today, Wednesday, July 27, 2011. We feel that it doesn't have enough work done to it yet, and still has some prominent bugs, I know it is disappointing for us to delay it more but in the end hopefully it will be well worth the delay. The new release date will be Friday, August 12, 2011. Mainly the reason that the release date is so far away is because I will be out of town for the next week and will not be able to help with the development of Fusion, so to give enough time I put in another week to get everything ready. I really hope you all understand but, I PROMISE, Beta 3 will not disappoint. :)

I agree with you completely on this, that is something that is changing in Beta 3. The windows are revamped, and we are going for a more softer "frosted" glass look. It looks very nice I will put up a preview of it sometime soon.

Hey Everybody,

Well as you may or may not know I have been out of town for the past few days, and haven?t been able to actively work on Fusion OS. However, I had some spare time so I decided to finish up the design concepts for Beta 3. You will notice that there is a new window theme, and the panel graphics have changed as well. This is all part of the ?smooth?, ?frosted? glass User Interface that I talked about before. This UI has now been dubbed ?Vision? which is also the codename for Beta 3 itself. We chose the name Vision for both the Beta release, and the desktop theme because we feel that Beta 3 will be the best release yet at portraying our vision for Fusion OS. Now remember this is not the actual desktop, although, the actual desktop will look 99.9% like this with very few and far between changes. Also I am going to confirm what I said before that Fusion OS ? Beta 3 ?Vision? will be a feature freeze. Meaning that we will try to implement all the features we want in the final version, and then we will just develop and evolve those, but not add any new features in any new release preceding version 1.0. I will post below a picture of the desktop, and then a close up of the window theme. Please if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE leave a comment, we really use your feedback in Fusion. I will write again soon about more details of Fusion OS ?Vision?, but until then thanks for reading and hope you enjoy the screen shots below.

PS: I took the feedback you all provided on the previous window theme and tried to implement it I change the button completely, and made everything rounder so it isn?t so sharp.

^ Love it. Interested to see what it looks like in a application like Chrome open. Will you also be making custom back/forward buttons and show them off soon. As the default ones look horrible, and I can't remember from Beta 2 but I think they were plain. Same in the Explorer/File Manager app.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate comments like this! :) I will be sure to put up a screenshot of chrome open with the theme in the future. I didn't think about the buttons but I suppose we could make custom ones, thanks for mentioning it.

Hello Neowinians!

So glad the site is back! I really missed it while it was down :( But anyways it has been a couple days since I posted any updates and as you may or may not know we have been feverishly searching for a good Help Desk or Support site solution for Fusion. We tried out Trellis Desk, OS Ticket, Hesk and a few other "free" ones but none were up to par to provide the support we need to give for Fusion OS. I looked into a company called Kayako which provides support for Sony, Envato, ICANN, Oracle, Avast, SEGA, and many universities and others, it was really a great solution but as you can probably figure all these "premium" options cost a pretty penny in this case it was $999. I contacted them and found out they give licences away to some open source projects and they donated one to us! I want to give a HUGE thanks to Kayako for donating it, because we would not be able to afford to purchase a licence but they were so generous as to give us one. So now if you want a preview of what the Fusion OS Support Center will look like go ahead and have a look at http://www.support.fusionos.net/ and see our Kayako Setup in action! We now have a Knowledge Base, Live Support, a Troubleshooter, Tickets and more! The support website will be launching most likely late tonight or tomorrow along with the new Fusion OS website, which can be previewed at http://www.simplyinnovation.net/fusionos (in cased you missed it) Also we have put a big link back to Neowin on our new website because Neowin is an amazing and supportive community and we would not have accomplished ANYTHING without all of you! So, as is this distro is designed to be 100% user friendly, have you made sure that all defaults are set to minimize hindering to the end user?

Things like installing a graphics driver so that you DONT have to go through the settings menu to allow your computer to install closed source drivers, every reasonably common thing that people go through the terminal for (like installing apps) has been taken care of?

I would surely install it on my computer. I'm a big fan of simplicity and minimalism. But one more question though. Where would I have to choose to shift between two OS? When I turn-on my computer, or when I'm am logged in my Windows.

Question has already been answered, but just a note...Back up your computer! Before you install another OS (Doesn't matter which one), always back up your information just to be on the safe side.

One small mistake, one missed step, and suddenly you have deleted your partition, or installed over top of it, and lost everything.

But, the great thing is, you can try it without installing :) Just loads off the CD/USB and doesn't touch your hard drive :) Safe way to find out if Linux is right for you
