LOL, after that comic above, it would be great if the devs threw in a actual broom dungeon easter egg! I've just started and the KB/mouse controls are driving me nuts, I am going to try one of my "retired" wired Xbox360 controllers and see if it is any better.

I don't know which person you followed in the opening level, but I followed the Stormcloak guy which eventually led me to the woodcutter couple in Riverwood. In their house there is a chest by the bed that you're free to use. I just used that as a stash until I bought a house in Whiterun. It didn't count as a crime or anything from what I could tell, and I could come and go as I pleased.

I'm sure there has to be a similar chest in the blacksmith's home if you followed the imperial guy from the beginning.

Yeah there are plenty of chests out there that you can safely loot (some might contain items that are tagged as "stolen" so you can't loot everything) but I'm afraid that some douche bag will come home from work one day and discover that he has a cool new sword that spits fire..

Well, in a less colorful way: I'm afraid that items will be "deleted" from these chests, because I'm pretty sure there are chests/barrels that get random stuff put in them every couple of days, I guess I could test it with some meaningless, "unique" objects, but I'm so lazy XD

Just buy the house in Whiterun. If you are in need of gold, just cut some firewood in Riverwood. (

)

I did it for exactly 1 hour last night, while watching an episode of Burn Notice, and I came out with 519 logs, worth 2590g. That got me enough for the house in Whiterun to store my things in.

It might have been a bug or I just don't get how Chests work but that

Abandon Shack from the first time you are introduced to the Dark Brotherhood

, well it has a chest and I used it. Came back to it the next day (real-life) and the chest was wiped clean. :(

Was playing last night before I crashed out and was doing some hunting around Riverwood when random assassin attacked me out of nowhere. Didn't stand a chance. Not really sure why he attacked me, either. I'm not even close to pledging allegiance to any affiliations.

I find myself purposely avoiding the main quests for some reason and I'm not doing a whole lot to raise my level (think I just hit 6 at about 8 hours gameplay).

Top game, but is it a known bug to lose your companion? I had a guy following me, went on some steep slopes and he was gone for days. He just appeared randomly after a quest

I wanted to know how to slap him, and ask where the hell he has been all this time?

Could have done with his help and I wasn't allowed to invite any other companion. Game needs a way of releasing a companion and / or locating them on the map...

I'm on 360 version BTW

Almost all world chests respawn over time, if a chest is designated as being empty, when it respawns, everything that was inside it is removed. The only safe chests are ones in places that your character owns (houses, rooms you have in faction areas, etc). As those chests do not respawn. There may be some random ones in odd areas, but generally speaking, never trust a chest in any TES game unless your character owns it.

Same here, mouse input is horrible (I have a razer imperator) , and the console interface doesn't help either, just plugged my wired 360 controller and now I'm having a smooth experience :)

Level scaling still sucks in this game btw, while you can make some uber gear by mixing smithing, enchanting and potions the game actually got a lot more difficult for me when I leveled by crafting some glass armor for myself (to the point where some bandits one shot me even though my armor doubled).

That's because your combat abilities were not likely up to par with your level. If you get to level 20 via crafting you still have the defense and offense of a level 1. You likely need to try to balance out leveling with crafting, and leveling with combat in order to not have the game scale above your actual combat level.

Just had the pleasure of meeting an Assassin myself, a Kahjiit, unfortunately for him, he failed ;)

No idea who might have sent him, I did progress a little bit in the main story but not to the point where I **** somebody off, oh well.. more action for me ^^

Sometimes if you **** someone off you will have an assassin or thugs come for you. I angered some guards in Riverwood

and used my status as a thane to get them to leave me alone. I later had some thugs come to kill me and they were carrying a message that connected them to the Riverwood guard

The note I looted doesn't suggest anything like that, and I have not ****ed anyone off, yet... I think that I didn't even steal an item :)

I found a note from an assassin that tried to kill me that did not implicate anyone, just said that i was to be killed.

One downside I see is that everything is incredibly dark. I have my brightness at 100% and I could still use it a bit brighter.

Not so much the overall brightness for me...it just seems that just about everyone I talk to is always standing in their own very dark shadow and most of their face is almost blackened out.

I'm enjoying Skyrim too ... haven't had much time to play so far but have finished the dragon quests in Whiterun and have just started the companion quests and some others. Too much to see and do :) I am playing a male Breton spellsword type character.

One of the best moments was this evening when I managed to do one of the misc quests given in Riverwood to kill some bandits in a tower to the east of Whiterun. From far away Lydia and I managed to take down two of them by bow (this has improved a huge amount from Oblivion where bows were very underpowered and having iron arrows as a 0 weight item do help a lot too). Later in the tower I managed to headshot one of the bandits running at me from across the bridge and shield bashed the other bandit into the river below. When I went to inspect the body of the last bandit it seemed that Lydia managed to land a killing blow right in the bandits groin from the other side of the river :) I'm getting a little scared of her now ... she is also taller then me (even with me wearing a spiked helmet) and that can only be bad news! :)

Does anyone know if companions/followers level up too or do they stay at the same level for ever?

Same here. I think Lydia sent him, 'cause I always accidentally hit her while we're fighting. 16 assaults lol

Do things like magic regeneration stack? Example: neckpiece has +25% faster regen and robes that are +50% faster regen? Would it only be the higher of the two or +75% faster?

It does, but magic regen is fairly useless in battle. It's generally better to go with stuff that reduces actual spell costs.

Pretty sure they scale with the players level. I do not think they get "perks" and what not like the player (though it could be a pre-set thing hidden from the player, based on the individual companion), and you can also give them gear (which they auto-equip the best stuff), but even without changing her gear, she seems to scale pretty well. For my thief she works as a great distraction or killing machine (against regular enemies) when there are multiple things to fight. She generally kills standard enemies in only a few hits at most.

It does, but magic regen is fairly useless in battle. It's generally better to go with stuff that reduces actual spell costs.

I agree, though I stopped playing my mage (after a saber toothed cat 1-hit killed me out of nowhere, and fights got tougher while spells didn't scale quite as well), but the regen does definitely stack, and it is much lower in battle than out of battle. As an example, I can shoot flames out of both hands out of battle for a good 30 seconds or so (very rough estimate, never timed it but it goes on forever), but in battle my mana doesn't last past half that (its pretty much enough to kill 1 target, but that's with no perks in destruction and the flames spell you start with).

While I do not fully agree that it is best to go for stuff that reduces spell cost, for example, a 75% or 100% magicka regen vs a 50% with 12% spell school reduction, I personally would go for the regen, but if you have an item (like a necklace) that's either like 25% regen or 12% reduction, definitely go for the reduction. Also, there are robes later on with 100% regen AND 12% spell school reduction (saw one for restoration yesterday), which is obviously better than both the alternatives I mentioned above if you use lots of restoration magic.

That being said, I just watched a youtube video of an archer killing a dragon with 3 arrows (well, 4, because he missed his second shot). He killed him so fast that the dragon didn't even had time to land, and instead did a bunch of flying while dead, before crash landing into the ground. As a thief who is tired of having difficulty with forced boss fights (those where it puts the boss right in front of you with no sneak opening attack), I think I'm definitely going to work on archery some more. Don't get me wrong, I live 1-hit killing 99% of the things I can sneak up on (I naturally go slow through dungeons so I don't miss anything), and the challenge is nice, but some of the fights in the faction quest lines are freaking difficult with the way I built my thief (stealth/lockpicking/pickpocket first, one-handed/light armor/shield last), to the point if I had 3-4 fewer potions, I would be forced to go buy/find some and try again later....though I also don't have alchemy at all, and do not yet have the pickpocket perk that lets you remove an enemies weapon/armor (which apparently makes pickpocket OP, fighting most targets who do wear armor, but naked and with only fists).

    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
