Windows Live Essentials QFE Released

We learn tonight that there?s been a QFE (Quick Fix Engineering ? meaning a bug fix update, not UI changes) for almost all of Windows Live Essentials, updating most of the programs (only Windows Live Mesh and Windows Live Family Safety aren?t updated) from version 15.4.3502.0922 to 15.4.3508.1109.

In order to update, you just need to rerun Windows Live Essentials from explore.live.com, and reboot. Wikikou.fr noted a few changes:

* Windows Live Writer 2011: inability to use the "Alt Gr" key combination to perform some special characters in a French keyboard (like the characters # {~ etc.})

* Windows Live Mail 2011: addition of the character # at the end of each sending of mails if Internet Explorer 9 is installed

* Due to Internet Explorer 9 BETA bug fixes

Thx to ahmz for updating A-Patch and pointing the new build for us.

Wonder if it fixes the bizarre bug in Messenger where it sometimes uses a contacts MSN nickname and sometimes their full name. Also other random ones like how sometimes the PM didn't update and the like.

I believe the nickname/full name thing is dependent on which version of WLM your contacts are using.

People who uses WLM 15 or have configured their stuff on Windows Live would show their full names, whereas those who don't ends up displaying their nickname.

It’s a QFE (Quick Fix Engineering) update, that is to say, this build is for bug fixes and not UI changes.

This release updates all Essentials 2011 apps from Build 15.4.3502.0922 to Build 15.4.3508.1109 except Windows Live Mesh and Windows Live Family Safety.

Though the web installer and offline installer version shows 15.4.3502.0922 but when you run this, it’ll prompt you for the upgrade to new build.

One of the bug this QFE fixes is in Live Writer. It fixes the AltGr shortcut issue for European Keyboards in Windows Live Writer.

    • Apart from a few very specific hiccups, Windows 11 has been good for me. Rock solid and stable. Unpopular opinion, I know, but it's mine.
    • No. Windows 8 had little to no spywhare, is actually faster than 7 but it has the dreaded start screen, nothing that you could not fix with start8. Windows ME crashed often, but was shotlived and replaced by XP, which is a much better windows in itself.
    • Windows 8 was uninspiring but it was fine / worked. It was just overshadowed by how great Windows 7 was. Windows ME seem to be just unstable for most people - I was using Windows 2000, which was far superior. The two best versions are Windows 7 and 2000
    • I don't think ME was that bad. The stability issues were mostly caused by drivers. This was when the switch from vxd to wdm was happening. The other complaint was not being able to shut down into DOS anymore which was silly with XP right around the corner.
    • As much as I hated Windows 8, although I never used it personally on any of my own machines, I think Windows Me was hands down the worst OS from MS. I have Windows 11 on 2 unsupported machines and haven't had any issues and I actually kind of like it. Still hate how slow Windows updates are though.
