Rift MMO

i'm gonna try a mage type toon. i hear they have really slow casting speed though. there some kind of warrior caster hybrid soul but i tend to regret rolling mdps in mmo's and it's one intersting soul in an archetype filled with stuff i don't want to do.

but yeah i was getting 471kbps from teh launcher yesterday. and the whole logging in to patch thing is always annoying imho, just because i like to patch up the game and then pay for game time. it's actually one of the factors holding me back from resubbing to STO right now.

Ask about the log in thing on the forums, the devs are actually really responsive to the community - and if others feel the way you do i imagine they would change it (unless they are planning on it anyway).

There is a beta event from the 25th to the 28th if anyone wants to try it. Look on their Facebook page in the comments for a VIP key that works. It took about 10 minutes to get a beta invitation e-mail.

(You can find it yourself easily. I do not wish to spam for them. :D)

looking forward to the beta tomorrow, already bored of cata so hoping this is good.

no idea what class to play though, haven't even looked at the classes or anything for this game really. playing around with this http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html though, NECROS!

The great thing is that you don't need to choose a class based on their name, as the souls deviate from the connotation the names usually hold - like the fact that rogues can tank and play support.

i'll be playing a limited amount of time this beta to specifically test how combat feels with the animations the game has. i think this is my biggest area of concern with the game because combat animations have a huge effect on combat and gameplay in that without good ones you are basically stuck staring at the UI to know what is actually happening in the game, and the videos i've watched of rift combat so far have basically been the player waving his arms at something until it dies.

Am I too early to the party, or they have some difficulties/delays? Announcement says that the party starting at 18:00 GMT.

It's now 18:14, and I can't get in: http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5233/rift.png

Mine says the same thing. I thought 10:00am PST was 1:00pm EST (which is where I am) unless they are having problems.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
