But ... it's not like WoW suffered that problem (6 years before any decline), so why must TOR necessarily?

Cause regardless of a new or similar formula every post WoW MMO has had a hard time establishing itself due to WoW's innate ability to reclaim its players after they have "finished" other MMO's. The issue here is that due to being very close to the WoW mechanics model people will compare it to WoW and thus any shortcoming will only give them reason to move back. New features are similar, making the game different and therefore making WoW look more appealing.

MMO's need a feature that WoW doesn't supply without giving them the feeling that WoW is more refined or overloading them with new mechanics that force them to relearn the game. The Star Wars universe is one of those things you can do that with, but a universe alone is not enough to hold someone in a game. You must be able to explore that universe adequately and STO does not allow players to explore so much as experience select parts of it based on the story.

I know many will probably play and like the game, but an MMO needs a good following of players to stay alive and if 65% of its playerbase leaves after 6 months or a year the game will never stay afloat.

you know Emn1ty is right.. The biggest thing people LOVED about Star Wars Galaxies, was you could see sites and people from the movies !! It was like OMFG there is Vader, or there are AT-AT's, etc.. this game is what 3000 years before then? So everything we see is to be realistic "made up"

I hear nothing but complaints about this games graphics from people I know who played the beta :(

Personally I think they were expecting too much from a beta, a game that was clearly going to look like KOTOR with slightly improved graphics and that there was a bug experienced by a lot of players that meant the high res textures were not loading correctly.

<sigh>

I also thing that there is a lot of history that you can experience in the game, when walking around on the bombarded planet (forgot the name, Taris maybe?) I was thinking "oh yeah I remember this" and then you saw the downed wreckage of Revan's ship

So I'm pretty sure I've heard mention of Revan, Malak, Canderous etc whilst playing. Sure they are not from the films but they are part of the history

Whether bad graphics are the result of a glitch or not... they're still

bad graphics. And bad graphics in a beta less than a month from

release? Come on, it's a valid gripe.

Anyhow, I'll be playing regardless... hopefully on the 13th, as well.

Huttball will consume my soul.

They've already screwed up lore by having a race that shouldn't exist.

The graphics are fine, there are a lot of gameplay videos where you can see the graphics. People are complaining because they want Skyrim Graphics in an MMO.

The only bug I was aware of what shadows, but think they fixed that for the 25th testing session.

On personal note, Walmart switched from Cancled to Processing my CE, sweet. Guess now I can cancel my Newegg as that's still on hold

What race is that, and why should it not exist?

from what I understand, everyone should be getting your physical copies around the 15th-17th.

Just checked out your guilds site, been looking for a guild in TOR. Mind if I PM you for info

Damn that was excellent. I'm not even a MMO player and it had be busting a gut!

Tbh, that is ridiculously unfair to SWTOR. It's hugely more detailed than KOTOR ever was - the similarity is in the general look and feel. Which, really, just says something for how well KOTOR defined itself.

(Yes, I played beta, and KOTOR)

lol I fail at reading, I get in at 6am on tuesday. Completely missed that in the pre-load email.

i guess ill have to recheck also, i didnt know they put when we can start in the preload email either, lol

They didnt. That is when the early access period commences, it says you will be emailed on the day you gain access.

If you ordered in July though id say its a pretty safe bet youll be getting in at the very start.

    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
