anyone wanna bet me that this game won't be on steam? origin only? they just pulled crysis 2...

honestly, for me. no steam = no buy.

From here:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/35247/Crysis_2_Removed_From_Steam_Available_Only_On_Origin.php

[update: EA has issued a response to the game's removal, saying that it was "not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA," saying instead that the game was removed because an agreement that developer Crytek made with "another download service" violates an unspecified rule Steam has for its distribution partners.

Valve has not responded to requests by Gamasutra for clarification. An EA spokesperson provided this statement to Gamasutra:

"It?s unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis II from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA.

Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service ? many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis II from Steam.

Crysis II continues to be available on several other download services including Amazon, GameStop and Origin.com."]

So it looks like it wasn't EA that did this. Not sure if that's all true as Valve hasn't responded yet.

yeah i read that. im wondering what valve has to say about it...

I doubt Valve will say anything, they're quite closed lip on their agreements with publishers (that is, they don't talk about specifics, but we know general stuff)

The rule EA/Crytek violated is most likely related to exclusivity (there's rumours they were going to make some DLC Origin only)

So much fail in the graphic department on the PS3 version, it's not even funny.

It's like DICE didn't even try.

Are you serious? Those PS3 shots are AWFUL pictures to begin with. Tons of compression already in the picture. Just look at the smaller picture of Fallon with the guests. They look like **** as well. So I really cannot see how one could make any type of real judgement based on those pictures. Yes, the textures look bad, but the source photos themselves really look like ass, and I just think this paranoidgamer wanted some hits on their site, as I never even heard of them until this "article."

Plus, considering the PC has been clearly stated to be the lead development platform, I would also not take any console footage shown right now as what it will look like as an end result.

But hey, if you want to get some knocks in on the PS3, who am I to stop you.

wat.

You cant even compare a PC with 4Gb+ RAM and 1GB+ Video RAM to a PS3 with 256MB RAM and 256MB Video RAM. Use your brain.

Really cannot help but feel that was meant as flamebait and a dig at the PS3 and nothing else.

Is this a joke? You're comparing uncompressed screenshots to screengrabs from a 1080i TV show.

What is wrong with you? It looks great. Granted that video is pretty poor quality(it looks off-screen).

But, I mean, what were you expecting six year old hardware to do?

EDIT: yep, the BF3 Blog confirms it was filmed off-screen.

It wasn't filmed off-screen. It was a direct feed, just like the presentation of the tank battle in E3.

If it wasn't, the end result would be a lot of this: http://i.imgur.com/l2EnK.jpg

Do notice there's no camera in front of the screen to capture the so called "off-screen" footage. And if there was a camera behind Jimmy and the guys from DICE capturing the screen showing the game, we would see their backs as they're in front of the screen. So no, def. not an off-screen footage.

I personally didn't posted the shots from the PC version for a 1:1 comparison to the PS3's version. The PC screenshots were posted just for reference, to see how many details were cut.

There was a "dig", but not at PS3. It was at DICE, for not trying hard enough for their debut of the console(s[?]) version.

No uncompressed screenshots were used by me above. All were taken from YouTube videos.

And if you don't want the YouTube encoded version of the PS3 demonstration run, a guy on Reddit posted the better original version: http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/i1z31/battlefield_3_pc_vs_ps3_graphics_comparison/c208dac

They cant work miracles, the PS3 has 256mb of ram and vram how are they supposed to fit such high res textures and models into so small amount of ram, with PCs they have multiple gigabytes to play with, with the PS3 just 512mb.

Did you really expect the console version to look as good as the pc version running in dx11 on a gtx 580?

Two are from the multiplayer so I doubt they're cutscenes and one of the developers said on Twitter that they were taken without DX11 hardware tessellation enabled so most certainly real-time and none of that pre-rendered stuff.

You can also see a weird blurry effect around the edges of the models.

if that's true colour me friggin impressed and slowly wanting this game more and more (if it's actually on steam)

I really hope it comes to steam, i will not buy it from EA's online store. I would sooner buy it at game stop or ever wal-mart lol. I have been saving for a new rig for sometime, I cant WAIT to buy it, not buying the rig though till close to the release of the game. It looks so damn beautiful <3

    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
    • Interesting read. I knew the adware was quite controversial at the time, however never realised to the point The Guardian wrote an article about Patchou. I just said no and enjoyed his creation, I’d probably be a lot more wary of something like that today though.
