How are his assumptions ridiculous? One would also think they wouldn't release a public beta that's based on a build that's a month old, but everyone here keeps saying that's what they did. Why would you do that? It makes absolutely no sense. So, no, if DICE and EA are going to release a public beta that isn't representative of the final product in most aspects, then I'm not going to have much faith in them doing the intelligent thing in other situations.

I wonder if this was a beta about the gameplay how they were going to get all the fixes in before release, how long does it take to press 1 million dvd's and distribute ?

No this was a poorly executed demo to test the servers which is going to make it a hard sell to the friends I have who are waiting for COD but had this been s**t hot may well have bought this.

Hohum..... no loss to me but my office sales have prob gone from 4 to 1.

Generally it doesn't take all that long. After a game goes gold it's two or three weeks before it's released, sometimes even less.

I still want this game to be good. But I was very concerned EA would rush this to the market just to beat Call of Duty, and it seems like that's going to be the case after all, unfortunately. I hope they get all their ducks in a row at release, because I think they shot themselves in the foot with this public beta. You shouldn't release a bug-riddled public beta, plain and simple. A public beta this close to release is a way to test things out while also showing the market what you're games going to be like. I'm very interested to see the pre-order numbers before the beta versus the pre-order numbers after the beta was released.

Well if it due for release on the 23rd then that only 3 weeks away so not sure any game changes could be made in this timeframe.

i cant figure out how to turn on the flashlight, a bunch of keybinds for somereason dont work. also cant rebind keys either.

thats my biggest gripe is the rebinding not working

The flashlight is a weapon addon so if you dont have it you cant turn it on, but 'T' is the key to turn the light and lasers on and off.

It may give pretty good performance on a GTX460 but the occasional flicker i mentioned thursday and the inherent stability issues in this broken "beta" kind of make the performance not matter.

I've seen the (purple and green) flickering as well. Though that might be a mix of both the beta game and the beta drivers. I've been playing Portal 2 recently again for fun and the performance in that game is different compared with stable drivers. So I'm wondering how the final version might run with stable drivers. Might it run even better or about the same? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Is the above NewEgg price cut promo code link working for anyone?

Every time I put the PS3 and/or the PC version in my cart, enter the code, and hit add; The items stay in my cart at the normal price and it redirects me back out to NewEgg's home page.

(P.S. You guys crack me up with all your pointless and repetitive arguing. Why bother wasting your time like that?)

Nope, for me it says it's an invalid promo code.

I have a few questions or hopes in this game... Ok, so it's Beta. Does that mean that right now, there are options and effects turned off? I have noticed that a lot of the cars on metro.. basically all of them, you can not cause to explode. I'm on the PS3, but I hope this is something that they have disabled for the beta, and will be a feature enabled on the gold. It also seems like there is less destructible environments, so I hope as with the cars, it is something disabled at the moment.

The game is still good, but this is the thing with "betas". You can't tell or judge from this, exactly how anything is going to really turn out. They leave too much unexplained. I just hope there is more happening in the final version.

I'm fairly certain the demo beta only shipped with the high graphics settings. No ultra textures or ultra anything because nothing really appears to change when I change those settings (on pc). They did this for the BC2 beta demo so I'm fairly certain it's the same for BF3. I have no idea how this would translate over to the consoles though.

And while the destruction isn't as "in your face because you can level entire buildings" like in BC2, it is still there and I think it's way more tactile. I like it just fine. As for cars blowing up, I haven't noticed it either and I'm not sure if they are supposed to or not?

Origin Account Bans Threatened for Playing on Modded Battlefield 3 Beta Servers

Pretty much anything involving the word "Origin" and "ban" has PC gamers on a hair-trigger, and news yesterday from Battlefield 3 developer DICE certainly won't lower anyone's blood pressure.

The server files for the game have leaked out. So now, during the game's open beta, some servers have appeared with alterations to the game. That includes, as VE3D points out, hosting more than 100 players on Operation Metro, which is capped at 32.

No.

So I've whored out most the guns. Anyone got an recommendations?

I like the UMP-45, M416, M40, and the SKS. The SkS is a semi-auto "sniper" rifle but I use it for rushing and I get a lot of kills with it. I use it with holo scope, grip, and silencer. The M249 is also a beast, especially with extended mags. It cracks me up firing the thing for like 5 seconds straight.

I haven't cared to unlock any engineer weapons yet, because quite frankly unless you're spamming the rpg's engineer is useless in operation metro. Especially when the death ray (ump 45) is an all class weapon.

Someone in the Neowin Platoon by the name of LordLOC is looking a bit dodgy...

Hacking?

I've got the UMP Master Dog Tag so I've probably whored out the UMP enough :D M416 is getting there. M40? What class/type of gun is it? And I'm not a huge sniper. Only got the first two snipers unlocked. But I'll check it out if/when I unlock it.

M40 is a bolt action rifle. It's quite accurate. I'd say it easily compares to the Gol in BC2. And the SKS is like the M14 from BC2 as well, so it's not exactly a sniper rifle but it is somewhat of a precision weapon unlocked in the recon tree.

And no he wasn't hacking, he probably just played on one of those hacked servers.

No thanks. I happen to like BattleLog personally.

Considering it's in its' infant stage. It has alot of nice features. Platoons for one, is pretty cool.

Now Origin, is another matter...

To me, BattleLog is what Origin should be.

    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout.
