Xbox 360: why are my friends and I not in the same squad, much less the same team when we join up in party and squad prior to entering matchmaking??

Yeah it's a problem. I've experienced the squad problem, but we've always been on the same team. Experienced it on the PS3. I'm not sure if they addressed it.

Holy crap this game is annoying to try to play. 3 times i've tried to join servers only for me to be instantly disconnected, then i finally get into a match only for there to be horrendous lag and rubberbanding. Next match i joined, of course, crashed the game.

A lot of people are getting kicked due to the fact that BF3 doesn't come with the latest punkbuster. Did you (manually) update it yet?

I bought this today for XBOX 360 and absolutely love it.

Only one slight problem, in fact two.

1. I have the 4GBB Xbox so couldn't install the HD content to hard drive. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing out on? The graphics still look amazing to me.

2. When I let go of all buttons, my character "slides" in the direction I was last moving. I've seen a lot of other people having the same problem on another forum and just wondered if anyone here has it too? I think that the "dead zone" of the joysticks is too small and the game is picking up the slightest of movements and translating it into a very slow moving motion. Its making long range aiming almost impossible and very frustrating. Hope it is fixed soon! ( Although I'm not online with xbox at the moment so I wouldn't even get a fix if one were released  )

Apart from these 2 issues I think its the best game I have ever played, my previous favourite was COD MW2 but I think BF3 is better. Although when MW3 comes out on the 8th I think that will be my new favourite game!

Can't bother to do it myself but look a few pages back, HD pack comparison should be there.

The difference is huge.

That's what she said.

/me goes to order an xbox HDD then haha!

I've been needing one anyway but could never justify buying one, but now I guess I can :) I recently got a new 50" high end TV so I really want the best graphics I can out of the game! Thanks for the heads up mate.

I didn't have to update punkbuster. Kind of strange that some people do and others don't.

I thought the same really, but eventually I got kicked at times too. Trust me, try it and I'm pretty sure you're not running the latest punkbuster.

Sure thing!

Yeah I'm getting that as well I think the problem is it wants to keep the teams balanced so joining 4 people onto 1 team is "unfair"....I suspect its less on an issue on the PC cause there are so many more players. My solutions is to use server browser to find a game with only 9/10 players, then as people join get mates to switch teams as and when the server lets, its a pain but generally works.

Yeah I get this, I don't think its a deadzone things cause if I'm sliding and then flick my stick I stop moving...only times I don't is if I'm on a steep slope then I do tend to keep sliding down.

How do I change my weapon while in a multiplayer game in Assault or Recon section? It seems to automatically choose the weapon every game for me and I can only add accessories to it.

You might not of unlocked any yet. Clicking the Main gun will show you others you can swap with.

I have unlocked AK-74M (I think) and SVD in Sniper Rifles. But I've tried a ton of times now but can't seem to find a way to change the weapon. :( OR does battlefield have a level after which they let you change the weapon?

Do not quote me on this as I am only a Level 2 as I have only played 2 rounds, but IIRC from the Beta, while you are deploying, you just click on the weapon from the kit shown and you should be able to change the weapon, attachments, etc from there? Either that or there is a kits button somewhere. I definitely plan on playing a few rounds today throughout the day, may even be hopping on soon, so I can elaborate further if no one does before I do.

Still have not received my copy from Amazon! Now it looks like I wont be able to get it till at least Monday which is useless because I have work all that week and will barely get to play, the whole point was that I get it for this weekend that I had off. Not happy at all!

I just broke 21 hours and haven't been kicked once due to punkbuster problems.

I wish I had this kind of time. It is rainy this weekend, I may catch you :)

Anyone else not able to connect a joystick? It works but just makes me fire irregularly and not able to sprint when I'm not in a vehicle.

Same. I have tried two joysticks, a Logitec wired and a Logitec Freedom 2.4 with the same results. It seems to take over random key bindings. Example, as soon as I turn on the joystick, my walk no longer works and I have to use the throttle to make my guy move. If I turn it off it stays that way. It also just doesn't seem work properly.

Guys.. just to let you know.. the R5 update to the servers is causing a lot of servers to crash. This is why you might be getting kicked/disconnect issues.

This is what GameServers tell me about my server yesterday restarting 5 freakin' times with the full server:

We are sorry for the delay. There has been an influx of crash reports since the R5 patch was issued a few days ago. We have notified DICE of the issues and are forwarding crash dumps to them in hopes of getting the issue fixed soon. I'm afraid there isn't much we can do at this time, besides wait for a fix from DICE, as the issue looks to be with the server software. As soon as there is a fix or patch available we will be applying it to the servers.

Why don't we have the option to quit at the 'End of round' screen? It's annoying to have to wait for the next map to load in order to quit.

You can alt-enter to shrink the screen and quit via Origin. I do not because I fear I will lose whatever I just gained so I wait so I hear you on that.

What do you mean? You can change the weapons in the main screen where you pick the place to spawn. Keep in mind that many weapons are class specific, eg, RPK is only for support and SVD is only available to recon. Also, the very first weapons (AK, RPK, SVD, M16A3, MK11 etc) and faction specific, for example, AK is available only when being on the Russian side, but M16A3 - when being American. All further unlocks will be available to both factions though. But I think you will be able to use the weapons of the other faction only when reaching a certain high level.

I think you can press ESC and then quit that way. I'm sure I'm not imagining that.

just press esc when when its counting down to the next map works for me.

You can do all of that but the question is, will you lose your progress? It says that any unsaved progress will be lost. I'd hate to lose whatever experience I gained simply because I quit the game at a moment where my progress wasn't saved.

    • Xbox Insiders get Xbox 360 achievements and Gamertag character upgrades by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is continuing its fast-paced update schedule for Xbox Insiders. Today, the company announced a new slate of features it is rolling out to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, which includes an expansion to the gamertag system, Xbox 360 achievements, and more. The unique Gamertag that Xbox users can choose for their profile is getting more characters. Instead of the 12-character limit, Insiders will now be able to get a Gamertag that's 15 characters long. The 12-character limit will still apply to Gamertags that are not unique or contain any non-Latin characters. Meanwhile, Microsoft is adding Xbox 360 game support to its Game Hubs. Selecting an installed Xbox 360 game on a modern Xbox console will now show achievement progress, captures, and other information. Achievement pop-ups are back for these classics too, which should be good news for achievement hunters. The next change is for Xbox players who can't wait to jump into their games when an update is required. "If a game requires an update and is available to stream through your Game Pass membership, you can start playing immediately with cloud gaming while the update downloads in the background," explains Microsoft. The final change of this Insider update is once again to the game cards. Insiders will find that all games, both released and upcoming, will now have a simple button to add to their profile's wishlist, making the process much easier from a single place. This Xbox update is rolling out today to Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. As usual, Microsoft aims to bring it to more Insiders over time before they reach all Xbox owners. Head here to find out how to join the Xbox Insider Program to get a chance to test these features and upcoming ones on both consoles and PC.

    • Researchers claim Microsoft's quantum breakthrough is flawed by basic Python errors by Karthik Mudaliar Microsoft's aggressive roadmap to deliver a commercial quantum supercomputer by 2029 has now hit a bit of a snag, and it's not because of a complex sub-zero dilution refrigerator, but rather because of a few lines of basic Python code. A new critique published in the scientific journal Nature argues that simple software errors effectively manufactured the breakthrough that Microsoft's foundational research claimed back in 2025 into Majorana-based topological qubits. Topological quantum computing, the path that Microsoft chose for its research, relies on creating and controlling "Majorana zero modes." These are exotic quasiparticles that theoretically offer vastly superior error resistance compared to the highly sensitive superconducting qubits currently being championed by rivals like Google and IBM. However, physically proving you have created these particles requires sifting through massive amounts of complex electrical conductance data to isolate a specific "topological gap." Because of the sheer volume of data, physicists rely heavily on custom software pipelines to process the results. This is where the Python scripts come in. Now, according to the critique, Microsoft’s data processing software contained fundamental programming errors that ultimately skewed the published results. By mishandling data arrays or deploying incorrect logic within the Python script, the software supposedly discarded "noisy" or contradictory data. Which is why it only highlighted the specific electrical measurements that supported the topological-gap claim. The researchers behind the critique argued that this makes the findings invalid, suggesting the heralded "quantum leap" was actually a false positive generated by bad code and not a product of groundbreaking physics. However, Microsoft is pushing back hard against these allegations. The Redmond giant has formally rejected the criticism, saying that it's just a minor anomaly rather than a fatal flaw. According to the company, while there may have been a minor oversight in the data parsing scripts, it does not alter the fundamental reality of their physical experiment. Just weeks ago, Microsoft unveiled the Majorana 2 quantum processor, a milestone so significant that the company boldly accelerated its timeline for a commercial quantum supercomputer from 2035 down to 2029. But the new software allegations reopen an old wound. Microsoft's quantum division faced a remarkably similar crisis when a landmark 2018 paper on Majorana particles was famously retracted in 2021 after independent physicists discovered the data had been inappropriately cropped. That historical baggage makes the current Python-related allegations particularly sensitive. If the foundational math and data processing for the 2025 breakthrough are genuinely flawed, the highly anticipated 2029 commercial timeline could easily be delayed or, worse, cancelled.
