Even if it looked liked that in the final release, I wouldn't be surprised, not much you can do with only 512 MBs of RAM, and something along the lines of a X1950 as a GPU to begin with.

FYI, a console works nothing like a PC. The 512MB of RAM and GPU it has is perfectly fine for any console game. The limiting factor is that the 360 is DirectX 9.

Is that why the DICE devs said they couldn't add more guns into BC2 because the consoles didn't have enough ram? I think the hardware is limiting them just as much as dx9, if not more so.

Adding content is affected by RAM?

I know the player count is, but content is news to me.

True, console is far more optimized, but Frostbite 2 is very demanding, if it is perfectly 'fine' for a game, then why is it that they had to down the resolution to 704p from 720p and add small black bars to the screen. Clearly this affects game play.

No. But when you add extra things to the game and they have to be present in ram while playing in any given match it does. Hence why they said they couldn't add more guns to BC2. I'm don't know if this is true or not. I just know that's what the DICE devs said when they asked why new guns couldn't be added in dlc (for the base game, not vietnam).

Honestly I would not expect the graphics to look much better than they do in the screens shown for the 360 (same for ps3 for that matter). At this point in the game things like textures are way closer to being what they will actually will be then they are not. And considering this is frostbite engine 2, with more advanced lighting and geometry among other things, it makes sense to me certain things are going to have to take a hit to accommodate those other advancements, and graphics I think would be the most logical aspect to take a hit. Perhaps I am wrong, but I am willing to bet a simple friendly wager saying there will not be a big improvement in graphics from what is shown in those screens.

I have decided I am definitely picking up a 580 for the game. Wether I ask for it for Xmas or pick it up myself, almost positive I will be replacing my two 460 GTX's in SLi. I may even do it fairly soon (right now EVGA has a deal buy certain cards and get batman arkham city for free) but part of me is contemplating holding out simply because I hear small rumors a new 600 series may be coming before then. But I am that confident I wil be playing the game so much I feel the 580 is justified.

Games are scaled to accomodate the low amount of ram of consoles. Yes 512MB on a console can be utilized way more efficiently than on PC because you have knowledge of the entire hardware and you don't have 25 services using 200 useless threads running in the background, but it's still just 512MB of ram. If consoles had more you would see more animations, bigger worlds, more diversity, more everything. You make it sound like 512MB isn't really a limiting factor when crucial design decisions in any big production revolve around how to fit everything in there and where do we have to cut back.

Everything's affected by ram. Anything you do, show, interact with, etc, has to live in memory at the moment it's in use.

The one exception would be stuff you can legitimately make the user wait for, i.e. loading levels, but I'm sure you don't want to see a loading screen every time you switch guns. So yeah, more guns = more ram.

I know its a console version but holy lack of 'AA' batman...

I must admit I do expect it to look better on the 1080p screen in front of me...

It's from the console version and not even @ 720p. You honestly expect it to look better than what it is? I don't think much will change as far as that goes between now and release.

I'll enjoy running it at 1080p on my computer though. :D

Well this will be less noticeable on a 42" screen, hopefully, and all will be well. I am happy about not having to use Origin even if it doesn't end up being that bad.

HD installation content? What's that about? Anyone know?

Probably game content(engine feature) streaming as is often done on PS3 where it installs stuff to HD as HD can move data faster then DVD/BD drive can straight from the disk at least if HD=Hard Drive one would assume.

Yeah I just found out about that ... so stupid, so now we will most likely NOT see the Beta in September after all. This is pretty dumb on their part, since the game is released at the end of October they will have less than a month for beta.

Argh, Just release the pc beta if its ready. Surely dice should have seen this coming before promising it in September. MS's long approval process is well known.

Especially with Gears of War 3 around the corner, wouldn't want the two titles to collide now would we? :shiftyninja:

Does anyone know if we have to choose one platform for the beta? I haven't pre-ordered the game yet but I do have the limited edition of Medal of Honor so I'm entitled to the beta. I'd love to try it out on my PC as well as my Xbox 360.

I asked a guy from DICE about this when MoH first came out (BazaJayTee), he told me that you can only play the Beta on whatever platform your brought MoH for.

The beta itself will be an added menu to MoH's main menu itself, so the download launcher is launched from the game, so you'll also need the MoH disc to take part.

    • You're absolutely right! No reason in hell these should be on the road!
    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
