Director Paul W.S. Anderson starts shooting Resident Evil: Retribution in a week's time so he had plenty to say about the project during an interview with Collider.

“We’re bringing in the Las Plagas parasite, which I love because it allows the undead to basically run around, ride motorbikes and shoot machine guns, which no one’s done before,” he said.

Anderson also explained how one action sequence would be lifted from the game, albeit with a change of vehicle.

“There’s a great action sequence which we’ve been inspired by from the fifth game, which is where the characters are driving in a Hummer through the desert and they’re being chased by zombies shooting machine guns on motorbikes. We’ve taken that and we’ve kind of run with it. We’re not gonna use a Hummer this time we’re gonna use a Rolls Royce Phantom, cause no one’s ever done a car chase with a Rolls Royce Phantom before. And I’ve discovered why, because it’s really, really expensive.”

He also explained the thinking behind the introduction of new characters from the games into the film.

“[The new characters] is something that’s kind of come out of Milla [Jovovich] and I talking to fans, feeling the characters that people wanted to come in. [We chose] three of those that seem to be the fan-favourites that we’d never touched on: Leon Kennedy, Ada Wong, and Barry Burton,” Anderson said.

“We really went out of our way to get people who looked as much like their characters as possible from the game. This actor Johann Urb, who I’m very excited to be working with, not only is he a really good actor but he looks like Leon Kennedy. I mean you put photographs of them side-by-side, it’s almost like he was manufactured by Capcom.”

Did you guys hear about the accident on set yesterday? Like 10 people in full zombie attire got injured in some scaffolding incident, and the paramedics had a weird time figuring things out :D Thankfully no one was seriously hurt (just some cuts and a few broken bones). But I'd imagine those paramedic folks might have some good Halloween stories coming up heh.

The special effects look a bit weird. If anyone's wondering about the songs in the trailer: the first one is "Baba O'Riley" by The Who and the second one is "Recognizer" (Track 04) from the Tron: Legacy OST.

You know, I thought that sounded like something from TRON. That said... This trailer is pretty terrible. The first 1/3 of this trailer is LITERALLY a commercial for Sony products... I actually thought I was watching a Sony commercial and not a trailer for the movie. :/

I get a feeling that you need to get used to blatant product placement in movies...

I don't think the special effects is no where near final (I'm surprised they added the creatures into the teaser) since they've only been in post for a month. I recall Milla saying the teaser would only include the first 3 weeks of filming.

Thats gotta be the worst trailer ive ever seen...unfortunately despite that, and despite how bad the last one was...I know ill end up seeing this, I love zombie/apocolypse movies >.<

Also think Jensen Ackles should have got the role of leon

the product placement at the beginning of the film is really really terrible, i thought the same as some other posters that it was an advert before the trailer.

I didn't mind the film series so hopefully this one will be good, looks like they have a lot more action then the fourth one which was a little dull.

Funny how Leon in the Resident Evil 6 looks very similar to Jensen Ackles.

@REM2000, the same thing was done before Resident Evil: Apocalypse's trailer.

Resident Evil 2 (the movie of course) started off with that skin care commercial. Seems people have forgotten that the movie series doesn't really take itself super seriously I guess.

I am a fan of the Resident Evil movies but the last movie, to me, was not very well done at all so I am hoping that this next one will make up for a lot of the last one was lacking. From what I gathered from this movie was some flashbacks and how they will reintroduce some previous characters that were killed off in previous movies.

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.
