Mozilla VP : Flash is going away, Html5 the future

Recommended Posts

As much as I'd like to see a more open and superior alternative to Flash, I don't think it'll be going away anytime soon. The main issue with HTML5 is that various browsers support it to varying degrees. And the cause of that issue is HTML5's lack of standardization. What if your browser doesn't support a certain feature that's required to view a webpage correctly? It'd cause a lot of headaches for web developers.

Flash is in a similar situation. There are various versions for IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. And there are some versions with browser-crashing bugs or huge security vulnerabilities. What are the chances of the average user updating Flash? Fortunately, Google made a good decision to distribute Chrome with a built-in Flash player.

Anyway, I think Flash is here to stay until HTML5 is fully standardized (spec-wise).
