I agree. Like Skia library usage to increase performance on Linux and Mac OS X, if they needed it so much why used Cairo first time (I know it was used to provide better hardware acceleration to Windows platform since it uses Direct 3D backend , D2D etc.) but overall it is still copy then ANGLE library for WebGL. Now it is going after SPDY protocol.

What Mozilla need to do is what we call rebuild up all code from ground. People will call me fool after all this.

...

They used Cairo because it was a thin wrapper around the platform APIs they were already using, and provided extra features (like anti-aliasing). They're using Skia for some things because Android pretty much requires it (and it's faster on some platforms, so there's a speed boost). And don't forget that Mozilla wrote the Direct2D backend for Cairo, it wasn't pre-existing. They're using ANGLE for the same reason Google are, it provides a robust shader validator and prevents issues with buggy OpenGL implementations on Windows. I don't see what the issue is with implementing SPDY either, if something works (and SPDY apparently has lower overheads than HTTP, and mandates certain things most HTTP servers still consider optional) then why not implement it? (The alternative being to not implement something and fragment things)

And what would another rewrite solve?

Me too. Whatever Chrome does I honestly don't care, Firefox is good (and fast) enough for me.

I used Chrome from its initial release up until FF4 was released and haven't looked back mainly because Mozilla closed the gap on speed. After that point, there wasn't a big difference in load times, so there isn't a big sacrifice on speed. I also love the customizability of addons that Firefox has. Chrome apps are nice, but you never find apps like TabMixPlus and DownloadThemAll as we do for Firefox that make day to day use easier. Hopefully Mozilla will take the hint sometime soon and actually integrate these apps as full native features.

Object Shrink landed from Jaeger Monkey branch to Mozilla-central, it may land with SPDY Protocol today.

20% Memory reduction in some cases, Welcome!!!

December 6 is date for Silent Updates landing.

Another nice speedup bug about to land: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705597

Firefox is starting to drive me crazy. It seems there are so many bugs not fixed and they still move along to new versions without fixing old bugs.

AdWords from Google is ALWAYS buggy and I have sent many reports and they don't fix it, as I did with other websites not working correctly, which are also never fixed.

I'm seriously thinking about moving to Chrome... I would hate that, but I can't live with so many bugs and still be on FF side :/

What kind of bugs exactly?

I don't use AdWords from Google those are blocked by Ad Muncher. What is exactly the problem ?

Pictures and text are displayed incorrectly here.

The problem is not displaying ads with AdWords... The problem is I can't login to my AdWords account! It has happened before, but now it is worse because it doesn't even load the page. I think Google is playing a boycott on FF.

What really bugs me is that on Mac OS X Lion they have yet to implement any of the OS features for the browser like fullscreen, page bouncing when scrolling to the top and bottom of the page and the back/forward animation like safari or chrome has. It's been 5 month's since the release of Lion so WTF is the excuse? For now i'm sticking to using Safari. are we native yet?, NO.

I have always prefered Firefox over the others since it was released, but now I'm starting to think that they've really lost their way. Bugs like the whole UI locking up when more anything more than two tabs attempt to load at once seem to have been ignored over pointless UI changes that end up getting reverted anyway :/ . That and the uncertainty of the Google partnership makes me wonder if Firefox can compete with the likes of Chrome and IE9?

Let me see now what extensions do you have installed? List them all please. This does not happen to stock Firefox.

@Luis Mazza: That site is really not rendering correctly with firefox, but so it does not with latest stable Chrome version that i also have installed, so moving to Chrome will not help you.It renders ok with IE9 tho.

I found the reason for this problem... AdBlock is messing with Chrome and Firefox when logging in to AdWords... Turn it off and everything works.

The website I sent earlier does not work fine on Chrome either. :/

That makes sense. I don't use Ad Block I use Ad Muncher but on my spare PC I use Ad Block.

I doubt the partnership with Google has anything to do with how they are developing FFx. It would be more of Google's loss to end the partnership since MS is just waiting for their current agreement to come to end to get a chance to make an offer to fully integrate and make Bing default search engine. If history shows anything on how much they are willing to invest in Bing, MS will throw upwards $100m if they have to, which is well more than what FFx is currently making.

As usual, addons are mostly to blame for many of the bugs that FFx has to begin with and people do not take a minute to realize that before blaming Mozilla.

In chrome, they have limited what can and cannot be used for customization, which greatly limits the potential for an addon to severely break browser performance. While this is good for stability, you lose the level of customizability that makes FFx worth using over any other browser.

There's multiple reasons, like nobody doing the work and people not wanting it done.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639705

That's the bug about Lion full-screen support, the last patch was submitted in September, and there's discussion about whether it's wanted or not (Firefox already has full-screen functionality, but it's different to what Lion does, some people want the new behaviour, others want the old behaviour, some want a mix, etc.)

okay, the fullscreen doesn't bother me that much, but still what is going on with the firefox team? it seems they don't have their staff priorities in order. I have been using Firefox for six years and i want to keep supporting them but these little things bother me, especially since the Google Chrome team is edging them out of market share every month.

Like most Windows programs, they prioritize their development for Windows before bothering about even releasing Mac version. So it's not like FFx is the first time this lack of support issue existed.

First in time in months nightly has crashed on me. Can someone point me to right folder in the ftp trunk to revert to the yesterday's build? I figure it's either the "central" or "central-l10n," but not sure which. What's the difference between the two anyway?

Chrome can become number 1 most used browser and i still wouldn't care at all.It will still be a fail browser for me(or just a back end for a real browser, which can do more than just open web pages).Firefox is just the better browser for me.

This is a fact. Firefox is my number one and the only browser I use.

There is a problem with builds from 7'th December and 8 as well, related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708248 , I've also downgrade to 6'th December build and waiting for fix...

    • I'm fine with a little reasonable promotion of Edge, but the degree which they do it right now I consider extremely unreasonable.
    • Microsoft AI boss no longer believes that AI will replace human workers by David Uzondu Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, recently took back his statements concerning white-collar jobs that he gave to the Financial Times in an interview made back in February, where he claimed that AI would replace office workers within 12 to 18 months. On Monday's episode of The Verge's Decoder, Suleyman recast the technology as more like a helpmate than a tool designed to take over your job. He explained that smaller office duties will "increasingly become digitized, automated" as people generate more digital materials. During the discussion, Suleyman emphasized a "very important distinction" between "tasks" and "jobs" to clarify his previous claims. He argued that his earlier comments only referred to individual actions that people perform at their desks. Suleyman used to work for DeepMind, the research lab he co-founded in 2010 alongside Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, before he left in 2022 to establish Inflection AI and build an empathetic digital assistant. Microsoft hired him in March 2024 to lead its newly formed "Microsoft AI" division, placing him in charge of consumer products like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. His February comments also detailed plans for Microsoft to achieve self-sufficiency with a $140 billion infrastructure budget to train frontier models, predicting that creating a customized AI will soon feel like creating a podcast or a new blog: The 41-year-old is not the only AI executive who's softened his "AI will replace you" stance. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, last month used X to push back against employment panic by arguing that his startup builds tools to assist humans rather than build replacements. He had previously garnered backlash by suggesting that many modern office roles that AI might replace did not qualify as "real work" in the first place, at least when you compare desk jobs to physical, historical labor like farming.

    • Meta will now use data from outside businesses to personalize AI responses by David Uzondu In an update that's rolling out globally (except in a handful of countries), Meta will use your data from outside businesses to personalize your AI responses and your primary feeds. Meta already utilizes your shopping activity to target ads, but the company now plans to expand this tracking to personalize other "parts of your experience" like feed algorithms and AI assistant chats. The company is replacing the two settings ("Your activity off Meta technologies" and "Activity from other businesses") that currently let you disconnect off-platform activity with a single, renamed setting called Activity from other businesses. If you don't want Meta to manipulate your feed and AI responses using your outside history, you can just turn the Activity from other businesses setting off in your account settings. This toggle resides within your Accounts Center, applying your choice to every connected profile. Turning this off will not stop companies from sending your data to Meta. The company will still collect your web interactions, but it only uses them to train products, while still accessing external accounts you connect. When The Verge spoke to Meta spokesperson Emil Vazquez, the representative said that this update will exclude several locations at launch, including the European region, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya. The new update comes at a time when the social media giant is recovering from a major PR disaster involving generative AI. Last week, there was a huge security issue on Instagram where attackers figured out a way to trick Meta AI into handing over account ownership (even if the victim had 2FA enabled). Some of the affected accounts include the dormant Obama White House profile, cosmetics brand Sephora, the Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force, and security researcher Jane Manchun Wong. Internally, the company also had to scale back plans on its Model Capability Initiative (MCI), an employee-monitoring program designed to train corporate AI models by recording worker keystrokes and screen activity, after employees raised privacy concerns and complained about severe battery life drain.
    • JetBrains is working to cut false positives in RustRover 2026.2 by David Uzondu Recently, JetBrains released the fifth EAP build of its dedicated IDE, RustRover 2026.2, bringing improvements like a Run gutter icon for criterion_main! macro benchmarking and a feature that alerts you when there are unused traits in your current scope. Now, the company is out with a blog post addressing one of the "most common" complaints from users: false positives. In RustRover, a false positive occurs when the editor incorrectly highlights something as an error even though the project compiles and runs successfully. This mismatch flags a gap between the IDE's internal intelligence and the actual compiler. When the editor flashes red warnings over perfectly valid code, developers lose trust in the tool, which stalls momentum. Traditionally, RustRover runs cargo check to detect compiler errors and warnings, but it also relies on its own code analysis engine to power real-time features. To provide quick feedback, this engine parses your source code into a syntax tree while inferring types and resolving names as you type. Because this engine must work on broken, half-written code and react instantly, its logic sometimes diverges from the compiler's, producing false positives that do not exist in the compiler's eyes. JetBrains said that it has a "dedicated task force" focused specifically on identifying and fixing false positives by analyzing user reports and examining large-scale open-source projects. To speed up this process, the team built an internal system modeled after Crater, the famous Rust project that compiles and runs tests for every single crate published on crates.io. This automated pipeline compares the diagnostics from RustRover's analysis with actual compiler output to catch discrepancies before they reach users, ensuring smoother workflows. RustRover, for those who're unaware, is a dedicated IDE designed specifically for Rust developers. It's been around for a couple of years now, providing features like built-in debugging via LLDB, seamless cargo integration, advanced macro expansion, and HTML support. JetBrains distributes the app under two licensing models: a paid commercial subscription and a free option for non-commercial use.
