Getting this:

ASSERT: Giving up waiting for the tab closing animation to finish (bug 608589)

Stack Trace:

0:([object XULElement],[object XULElement])

All the time now. It's said to be, "fixed", but, well, there it is.

Anyone else getting said message?

Type in url bar about:config -> hit enter -> confirm Mozilla Security "Bla bla" -> in Filter bar past this text browser.tabs.animate -> double click on search result to switch from true to false-> suppose be solved.

I think Your problem is causing some tab extension, in my case that was Tab Utilities, now I use again Tab Mix Plus dev version and my problem is solved once for good ;)

Hmm, is it just me or does release 19.0 starts spiking CPU usage after a while which causes strong lagginess? One half of a core's usage is in the top 3 all the time and CPU usage of the process is 12-13 of a Quad Core machine.

It was not for me but maybe I didn't use it long enough. I went to the Firefox 20 Beta

It will might solve issue which is more like suppression but if you look at my addons list, it is just three ABP Dev build, Element Hiding Helper Dev build and Last Pass, nothing more but still I get this weird annoyance issue.

It is more like triggered by Firefox tab strip snappiness bug fixing.

In Your case this is kind strange, in my case I was sure that some of addon messed up, any way I've posted this solution as temporary for Users facing problems as Your. I remember from MozillaZine forum a User facing identical problem as Your, in past He have TMP, already uninstalled or disabled, but still problem persist, disabling tabs animation resolve His problem, maybe You have also some old pref in about:config, some rest after tab addon.

GRT ;)

I did do this before, and it does work. Thanks for mentioning it.

That said, I'm always enabling the animations again to see if the problem eventually goes away. No luck yet, though again, the bug is labeled as fixed, so I'm not sure what else to report.

Regarding Tab Utilities and TMP, I've read other reports that are in line with what you said, but I never installed either. Plus, none of the other addons I actually am using have been mentioned, and according to Zlip792, they probably don't really affect the issue anyway. I've left the telemetry and whatnot enabled, so I guess it's up to the devs now.

I made this profile on 1st Feb and I am pretty sure I didn't install any Tab related addon even though I liked your detective skills of finding workaround for this annoyoance. I will surely go with it unless FF dev notice and fix it.

i see they have enabled InContent in UX again which makes me wonder if there gonna enable the new one this week or next?

Addon Style one InContent UI work is not started, a contributor said that he wanna work on it but after one week. So lets hope a new contributor (first time I thin) will help out FF in this.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ultimate copy of chrome and sole reason of my in future to leave firefox...

If this uglification UI landed on Nightly very next moment I will uninstall Firefox and shift to other browser.

    • Apple are scared of their customers! They have built a brand over the years of "it just works out of the box", but that slows innovation. Samsung's master stroke was the Galaxy Ultra: "Let's cram everything into one handset, make it so stupid only real nerds will love it, some of the features will work, some won't, but the audience will have such a high tolerance they won't care". Apple has no such device and so they are constantly worrying these days about the fallout of creating a new experience that customers might not like. I know it is often cited the reason they don't build a touchscreen Mac Book is they don't want to cannibalise the the iPad market, but I think it's equally cold feet after the criticism Microsoft receive trying to make a touch compatible desktop OS

    • So, an article that has nothing to do with Windows 11, still gets Windows 11 in the title and a build number as the picture? Dell have a buggy build of Support Assist HP have UEFI settings that need unlocking for the secureboot cert upgrade to take place.
    • What I can't seem to understand is that Google are paying SpaceX? Surely it would be the other way round, with SpaceX needing Google's datacenters etc.? Oh well, this level of money and power is way outside of my comprehension at the best of times.
    • "77ee94b helium/windows: winsparkle updater (built-in auto-update support on Windows" If that's what I think it is, that is about the only thing that's been missing from this excellent browser. I guess I'll find out the next time I'm on a Windows machine.
