For those that are running Nightly builds be prepared for a great deal of breakage with tonight's build (02.10.2013)

http://hg.mozilla.or...ago&enddate=now

Crash, some addon breakage, something not working??? What etc... Elaborate more..

many build-in functions mark as read-only in today's build

every extension that depend on changing Firefox build-in function will fail

Such as Tan Mix Plus, Themes, Any extension that depends on Firefox' built in function. I would imagine some scripts will fail as well.

You are on the same forum Zippy. :)

Why not!! Although I am on full bleeding edge mood since use only three addons and relatively new profile created last week of Jan.

Is it only me or is Mozilla trying to eliminate Themes? I am using the Nightly builds and it says that I don't have one installed. It used to say the default theme. When you go to AMO and click on Themes you are given a bunch of Persona's to look at. To get to the real themes you now have to click on Complete Themes.

No, that is not trying to 'eliminate' themes. It's simply that Personas suit most people, and cause far fewer long-term issues.

(It has nothing to do with the version of Firefox you're using)

I am using the Nightly Builds and there are very few Themes that are compatible. There are also not that many compatible with Fx 17. I used to make and publish persona's and they do the job. I can see in the near future themes will be gone.

IMO . Themes cause nothing but problems an always have. Persona's are so much easier. i couldnt care a less if Mozilla got rid of Themes totally an stuck with Persona's only. at the end of the day, people only need Persona's which doesnt really do anything to the Browsers Code like some or a lot of Themes do.

Nightlies are always going to have lower compatibility than the release browsers - you cannot use it as a measuring stick of trends. Addon authors simply are not as bothered about supporting it, especially since it can introduce a breaking change at any moment.

Besides, it doesn't mean full themes will be gone in future - in fact, that's simply not really possible, given that it would require a massive lockdown of how Firefox addons work... and that's not happening.

Well , I have 33 add-ons that work perfectly fine. If you look in the Theme section at AMO you will find many themes that are not even compatible with the released version of Firefox. If the devs that make thems do not start making them compatible with the latest release they may well become a thing of the past. With CSS and Persona's I have no use for a theme.

If people stop making Themes, then yes, they will become a thing of the past - but that's kind of tautology. It doesn't mean Firefox will ever drop support itself.

I suspect the reduced popularity of themes is just a combination of reasons: Personas are simple and suit many people, Firefox is changing more rapidly meaning a theme that hasn't been touched for a while simply stops working, and people are just happier with the existing Firefox UI (Firefox improvements and/or OS-related general improvements like XP to Vista).

Getting this:

ASSERT: Giving up waiting for the tab closing animation to finish (bug 608589)

Stack Trace:

0:([object XULElement],[object XULElement])

All the time now. It's said to be, "fixed", but, well, there it is.

Anyone else getting said message?

Not me, I am using Firefox 20 Beta 1

Then all of the current themes need to be made compatible by the devs to the latest release or be removed after 30 days.

This message is making me annoying as well...

    • Apple are scared of their customers! They have built a brand over the years of "it just works out of the box", but that slows innovation. Samsung's master stroke was the Galaxy Ultra: "Let's cram everything into one handset, make it so stupid only real nerds will love it, some of the features will work, some won't, but the audience will have such a high tolerance they won't care". Apple has no such device and so they are constantly worrying these days about the fallout of creating a new experience that customers might not like. I know it is often cited the reason they don't build a touchscreen Mac Book is they don't want to cannibalise the the iPad market, but I think it's equally cold feet after the criticism Microsoft receive trying to make a touch compatible desktop OS

    • So, an article that has nothing to do with Windows 11, still gets Windows 11 in the title and a build number as the picture? Dell have a buggy build of Support Assist HP have UEFI settings that need unlocking for the secureboot cert upgrade to take place.
    • What I can't seem to understand is that Google are paying SpaceX? Surely it would be the other way round, with SpaceX needing Google's datacenters etc.? Oh well, this level of money and power is way outside of my comprehension at the best of times.
