So we passed 10 Million forum posts!

Recommended Posts

Our board has surpassed 10 Million in under ten years, thats an amazing feat and pretty much averages to 1M a year since July 2001, which is when the current board database started.

In that time we've lost quite a few posts, the famous downtime of 2003 which resulted in about 3 months of data being wiped from our news and forum database (which we never got back). And rogue members who previously had full control over their topics went about deleting them or removing the content of the first post, not to mention our spammer friends, who probably account for 10% of removed posts over the last decade (which are not counted toward the 10M).

Any posts that become unapproved, are not counted to the current number of posts.

This is why the anti-climatic jump to 10M didn't go smoothly, because with little over couple 100 posts to go, a topic that contained 4k of posts was cleaned and reapproved.

Since then other topics have seen the same treatment (either hidden for cleaning or reapproved).

If you joined in 2001 and still active:

Anyway, from myself and the staff I would like to thank everyone for making this target possible; and offer any member that is still active from 2001 a free Tier 2 account.

All you have to do is either reply here, or PM me to set you up, if I miss your post, do PM me so you don't miss out!

If you joined after 2001 and still active:

In about a week, I'll be looking at this thread and randomly selecting 10 members from a join date after 2001 (so 2002 - 2011) for a free Tier2 as well, the only requirement will be:

1) Tell us why you joined Neowin;

2) And what kept you here as an active user of the site.

Thanks, and lets hope we can talk about this again in ten years time (with hopefully 20 Million posts, or more). (Y)

I'm a bit late, but I selected 14 additional Tier 2 subs to give away, that's the number of pages in this topic.

2) And what kept you here as an active user of the site.

still interesting articles, still nice community, still great helpful members :p

I joined because I was a lurker for a long time and wanted to contribute - admittedly it didn't begin well, my first impressions weren't that great but I gave it another go and I was more than happy. :laugh:

I'm quite happy to pay for my subscription, it's not much. Congrats on the milestone!

1) Tell us why you joined Neowin

I seem to remember that a friend of mine was browsing the main page one day. I decided to sign up and take a look around the forums.

2) What kept you here as an active user of the site.

The community. If I have a question about something tech-related, I can come here and ask for clarification. At the same time, I try to offer advice where I can. It might not always be what people want to hear, but at the end of the day it's another opinion that the user can read and use to make their decision. Also, the place keeps me entertained during my work hours. :p

1) Because I had been lurking around for a number of years thanks to Google and could keep quiet for any longer.

2) Receiving and giving help and support to members, Endless hilarious meme images. Oh and Rappy :p

PS. Since I'm already tier 2 If this post is picked give it to the person 7 posts ahead of me. :)

Not sure really i guess it was a better place than anywhere iv been so far how ever it does seem that Neowin is becoming the place i ran away from.

1) Tell us why you joined Neowin;

I think there was something about a fix for XP back in the day so I signed up to post. Got a fast response too :D

2) And what kept you here as an active user of the site.

I use this site more as my news site, Great articles and its very quick with news even it does originate from other sites. I visit this site more than any other site ATM.

This is the biggest forum I come to regularly and you guys are handling the scale superbly. A big congrats from me guys, well done (:

I have no idea when I joined, but I doubt it was 10 years ago. I'll find out when I submit this post! :laugh:

Why I joined neowin;

Someone I know from another forum recommended this place for tech support a few years ago

Why I'm still here;

This is easily my favourite tech forum out there, nobody has done anything significant enough to prompt me to leave and the atmosphere is generally friendly. Even the occasional Linux/Windows or religious shout-downs have some intelligent and friendly posters.

And for a bonus question, why I'm here right now;

I'm supposed to be writing my dissertation :laugh:

Congrats to Neowin and the crew, and well done to all members who get the free upgrade :)

1) Tell us why you joined Neowin;

Like the articles, the people, and the conversations

Congrats on 10 million posts Neobond, and everyone else! I joined within the first few days of the site opening, can't believe it's been almost ten years since then.

I don't post often, but, visit multiple times daily without fail, you guys are my #1 source of tech news, and I'm an active forum reader as well. Thanks for the free premium account :) I hope to see Neowin last another ten years!

    • Microsoft announces the return of Xbox exclusives with Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft had plenty of announcements to make today at the Xbox Games Showcase celebrating 25 years of the gaming brand. Now, under the leadership of the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox games are going back to their original release methods. She appeared in the livestream itself to announce the return of Xbox console exclusives. This means two major upcoming games from first-party studios won't be coming to PlayStation or Nintendo consoles: Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from InExile. Both titles will only be coming out on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs, ditching any plans they had for PlayStation. "These are not timed exclusives," confirmed Microsoft. "We’re committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond." The company confirmed that any already announced Xbox titles for PlayStation, under previous leadership, will continue to arrive for the rival platform. This means games like the new Halo remake, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and State of Decay 3 will still be available on PlayStation, either at launch or later. It sounds like any new projects announced by the company will avoid other consoles in the same way. Microsoft first opened the floodgates by bringing titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles back in 2024. Since then, almost every new game release from Xbox Game Studios has arrived for rival consoles alongside Xbox and PC. This decision follows Sony's plans to ditch its own multiplatform releases too. Outside of multiplatform live service titles, the PlayStation maker is even abandoning its PC porting endeavors that started years ago.
    • I'm missing the beginning part of this equation... but for the sake of the convo, you don't get to take a $250(?) set of normally priced RAM, jack it up to over $500/600/800 just because of a market shift, then lower it back down to more than what it was originally and call that a "sale". Not the author of this post... the manufacturer/seller.
    • SpaceX has secured a significant cloud-services deal with Google, agreeing to a monthly payment of $920 million for computing power.  This agreement, covers approximately 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs and other components.... https://cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/investments/google-to-buy-computing-from-spacex-at-920-million-per-month/131543026
    • no thanks is overpriced and its not the fastest ram neither.
    • It is, but it also has a bad performance reputation even on high-end gaming PCs. Some people say it's the engine's fault, others say it's the games developers' fault, who knows... At the end of the day, for the average gamer, the take is this: PC game with Unreal Engine 5? Be affraid and cross your fingers, it's a 50/50 chance.
