The source isn't confirmed but my friends cousin in England has had fraud on his account and money stolen, He has a PS3. It could have been taken from another source but that's not likely. I'm not up to date with the situation Sony were saying they don't hold the 3 digit number on the back of the card ?

Yet their offering a year of fraud protection.

 Very reputable source of information there buddy. Glad to see you're so informed about your friend's cousin banking situation.

SONY didn't store the CCV number. No retailer stores it. They just check in order to complete the transaction and dispose of the info.

They couldn't confirm if the CC database had leaked but they must take steps to prevent any possible consequences or face negligence charges (which would end up being more costly in the long run). The year of fraud protection is the SCEA offer because there's a coesive mechanism for identity protection the USA. Since there isn't anything similar to that in Europe, they are still looking into it.

At least the guys over at Zombie Studios don't have to worry about the PSN Shutdown effecting their Black Light Tango Down shooter, nobody plays it anymore anyway. :p

Its the talk of the time at the moment, reputable source or not, friends, social circles people are talking about it, I am not surprised. When I go into work my work colleges are discussing it, some even mention their partners or siblings or children are having problems. So technically if I had to mention something I would say, work college's son/farther/daughter/cousin etc. But hey they are not reputable sources. Guess where you come from no one talks about issues like that

and how many people actually used linux before all the publicity?
I did. But seriously, if the PSN has been down because people wanted OtherOS to be implemented again, I no longer care. My gaming is my first priority on my PS3. I run Linux on my desktop and laptop so it's not a huge deal.

this is now getting into ludicrous country. almost three weeks and they're still down with the promise of "next week" clearly coming and going. a few days is OK, but beyond that they're basically putting a huge sign on Playstation hardware saying "don't buy now". this is really offputting to prospective buyers who care about online connectivity. even though i love the single player campaigns on all the games i bought for the PS3, this is getting annoying.

Will the compensation they offered suffice and are people still happy with it following the newer revelations... into 3rd week now, lets say hypothetically if we reach week 4-5... will they offer 2 months free PSN+ and Qriocity or would it be the same. For some reason I have a bad feeling that if it comes back up whoever did this will "test" what new security mechanisms were in place and we could be looking at even further downtime.

You Will Be Surprised And Pleased With The New PSN

Are you tired of waiting on Sony to turn on PSN? I?m sure you are. We are too, but before your patience wear thin, allow me to comfort you with these words, when PSN returns, you?ll be pleasantly surprised and thoroughly pleased with the new, revamped PlayStation Network.

Just recently, Sony announced for European gamers that they?ll get a chance to download four games for free as part of the ?welcome back? program the company?s planned to deliver to every PSN member. But that?s not all.

As Sony?s rebuilding the network, work being done doesn?t only entail security enhancements. Sony?s about to surprise us with features gamers have longed begged for, and while some won?t go live right away, expect things like cross-game chat and video chat to be part of the new PSN.

?As we are rebuilding the network, we are taking into consideration implementing features such as cross-game-chat and in-game video chat to name a few. I cannot confirm any new features at this time but expect a massive update when the network is restored,? said a Sony representative recently.

We should also expect to see a revamp of the XMB, and other related changes.

Once the service comes back online, you should expect the following features to be available:

? Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation?3 (PS3) and PSP? (PlayStation?Portable) systems

? This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games

? Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers

? Access to account management and password reset

? Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo

? PlayStation?Home

? Friends List

? Chat Functionality

In the coming days: Expect PSN by early next week:

?In the coming days, we will restore service to the networks and welcome you back to the fun. I wanted to personally reach out and let you know that we are committed to serving you to the very best of our ability, protecting your information better than ever, and getting you back to what you signed up for ? all the games and great entertainment experiences that you expect from Sony,? said Sir Howard Stringer in a letter of apology to PSN users.

The ?new? PSN as Sony calls it, will definitely be more robust than what we?ve come used to, so bare patience just a little longer, because you?ll be pleased.

Don't know where the information came from aside from possibly the writer's ass, but figured a few of you would be interested.

As you can see in the pic DPyro posted, they are "taking into consideration" into giving it to us, which means it is not confirmed yet. Oh Sony...

A) They've had x-chat all along, just waiting for the right "opportunity" to give it to us

B) They've been developing it alongside fixing PSN (which begs the question why didn't they do it earlier if they could finish it this fast)

C) Just 100% lies to shut us up

Sucks to say this, but its probably C.

A lot of reports saying it won't be back until the 31st? I hope they mean things like the store etc and online play will be back before then :pinch:

This article is no different from this one from 8 days ago - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-01/sony-aims-to-resume-playstation-network-qriocity-service-by-end-of-month.html

The media picked up on a phonecall this morning and apparently had a case of fish brains and went wild with new headlines. It's getting beyond a joke that these outlets won't do any research at all before running headlines.

Gaming Journalism, where "Hits" matter for them to keep a "job"

Just like local news "If it Bleeds, it Leads", they try to 1up the competition, then just a slippery slope of who can sensationalize their story and garner more eyeballs to their sites

I mean fact checking, source confirmation then reconfirmation, taking time to write up stuff = thrown out the window. It's more rumor based, "telephone game" journalism, I heard from someone who heard from someone who was the brother's farther's uncle's roomate double probation super secret undercover QA tester who is not even on said project =[

Can't be said any better than that when it comes to games journalism.

Surprised someone hasnt put up a way to play lan party over wan. Tho probably not worth the effort.

I remember looooong ago when I had the first xbox there was a site that allowed you to emulate a lan party in order to game online and not pay for live.

I remember looooong ago when I had the first xbox there was a site that allowed you to emulate a lan party in order to game online and not pay for live.

that's because the first xbox supported LAN play so you could set up a VPN or a himachi tunnel and make it play online via that method, PS3 doesn't support LAN

it does? i don't know even know of a single game that does support it where as i can name like 20+ oringinal xbox titles alone that did...
