PSN Down

Recommended Posts

I'm just glad I can finally play my SNES and Genesis ROM's on the machine! So much WIN!!!

I hope you have the original cartridges for those.

So there will be a third hack against PSN? That's supremely stupid. You're really going to attempt to hack a company that has just hired two specialist firms to monitor its network for hackers, and rebuilt its network (which one assumes will make tracking such perpetrators easier)? Yeah, you have fun going to jail, nimrods.

It's just rumours, spreading FUD around. The people who did this hack didn't do it so they could plaster the results on the web and get caught.

And from the EU blog comes this tidbit of information (emphasis mine):

Both Kazuo Hirai and Sir Howard Stringer have stated that we will be offering identity theft protection for those affected by the malicious attack on PlayStation Network and many of you may have seen the details of the service available in North America.

As I have explained previously, creating a similar offering for the many countries within the SCEE region is a very complicated process. Each country has a different way of handling identity theft; some offer relatively sophisticated services whilst others are much more modest.

We are currently in the process of identifying how we manage this situation and once the programme is ready to launch, we will provide details of exactly which services are available in each country and explain how to sign up. We hope to do this early next week.

Also, look out for more information on the rest of our Welcome Back programme, including which free content you will be eligible for. We will be offering PSN users the opportunity to select two PS3 games from a list of five, as well as offering PSP users the opportunity to choose two games from a list of four. We will let you know exactly what games are available very soon.

Please be assured that we are continuing to work around the clock to have some PlayStation Network and Qriocity services restored and will provide you with specific details shortly.

Rather nice of them letting us choose.

Excellent, with everything that's been done for after support I really cannot accept the complaints of 1~1.5 weeks ago of them giving us ****/compensation that isn't worthwhile.

I'm sorry, but this is a small penalty to getting Linux back on our PS3s. Once Sony realizes they can't **** with our Linux overlords they may start to deserve otherwise.

and how many people actually used linux before all the publicity?

I expect it to be late today or early tomorrow. They already said the final steps in testing were underway yesterday so it shouldn't be too much longer.

I kinda just want to get on and buy PixelJunk Shooter 2, I've been waiting to buy it, and it went down the day I was going to!

Rather annoying, lol.

Na, I already have it. She plays Black Ops mostly, but wants another shooter game. We have been playing single player, but I know multiplayer will be nothing like it. But for the days that she is not at my place, she can still play with me :p

Hanna Montana and My little Pony is one of the 5 selected exciting PS3 titles.

That would be too funny... I wonder if the games will be actual full ps3 games, or just some of the downloadable independents/minis... and what if you have all the games they offer?

They better not be mini's...

I highly doubt they are the full exclusive games (would be awesome tho), my money is on the $9.99 kind of games.

Not likely to be minis. Probably select titles from studios under SONY's wing like PixelJunk Shooter 2, Wipeout HD, etc. No use in trying to guess. We'll just have to wait patiently (like we have been doing already) and see. I was hoping it would be up this week but doesn't seem like it. Maybe Monday...

Probably will be Unsharted 1, 2 , or GOW 1 and 2, or Infamous 1

Better not be, I have all of these.

... Look at me complaining. It doesn't matter what they give me, as long as they bring it back up and get it secured I'm happy.

Well, technically it's suppose to be this weekend. I'm sure it's merely a target, and they make no promises.

/goes back to reread posts...

You said Friday

And since I can't edit my post above

As you may know, we?ve begun the process of restoring the service through internal testing of the new system. We?re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.

As you?ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won?t restore the services until we can test the system?s strength in these respects.

When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friends and enjoy all of the services PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer, and trust me when I say we?re doing everything we can to make it happen. We will update you with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience of this network outage.

tl;dr

Delayed

The source isn't confirmed but my friends cousin in England has had fraud on his account and money stolen, He has a PS3. It could have been taken from another source but that's not likely. I'm not up to date with the situation Sony were saying they don't hold the 3 digit number on the back of the card ?

Yet their offering a year of fraud protection.

They said the credit card database was encrypted and they didn't store the CCV number, but no retailer is allowed to store the CCV number anyway iirc.
