rumors says we're getting free games and PSN+ for free for a month

It's not a rumour. Posted on both blogs. PSN+ free for a month, and every day the service is down as well for current subs (and 2 free games out of 5).

The worst thing is when it finally comes up, you just know there is going to be this rush from everyone logging in and syncing and such like, and then downloading whatever we get for free.

I hope they are prepared for it, lol.

May be why they are going to do it by region, to lesson the extend of the servers all getting slammed too hard? Though shouldn't the servers be separated by region anyway? Eh, I sure hope it all goes smoothly lol.

OK, I give Sony now until the day the early release of Duke Nukem Forever demo comes out to have everything working... Been waiting for this for ages, bought GoTY Edition of Borderlands for the early demo access... and now I get a email saying that it will be out around May 15th.... Don't ruin this for me Sony!

This is getting old Sony...

What is? Them testing to make sure their network is safe and secure.... surely after what's happened then it's better to take their time in getting the best possible security that they believe possible?

Exactly my thinking when I read that sentence. I'd prefer they take their time to try and make sure such a thing doesn't happen again rather than just flicking the switch on to appease people who want to play online.

I for one am not amazingly bothered about the lack of PSN at the moment. At least I'm comfortable with the fact that Sony is currently doing whatever they can to fix the issue. That said, I'm growing a little impatient with the situation but there isn't anything I can do about it.

The most annoying part of the outage for me is that my friend bought Portal 2 for the PS3 and his intention was to unlock the Steam version to play with me. But of course can't do that if PSN is down. I was sure it would only be a 7 day outage but now it's been what.. 21 days? Kinda disappointing. :(

My only issue is that DKF early demo comes out within the next week or 2. That is all I want. But the lack of PSN at the moment hasn't affected my playing of games. If anything, I am playing more of the games I was neglecting.

It is also rather stupid that the device can still connect to the internet (for browser, and even local network connection) however, without the PSN Netflix does not function :(

I thought I read earlier in the thread that it is possible to use netflix while the psn is down. You just have to cancel out of the error message or something, but people have def confirmed they got it working. Im at work right now so I cant test it.

Edit - Found it, but apparently doesnt work for everyone... that sux.

For those of us who subscribe to Netflix, and use it frequently on the PS3, there is an easy way to get around that. I haven?t been on properly in a few days, but I did figure this one out on day one of the outage, and figured most people would have found it by now.

On initial startup of the program, you will be greeted with the PSN log in screen. Go ahead and attempt to log in. It will fail, but your movie list will load directly afterward. Then the log in screen will come up a second time. Again, attempt to sign in, and when it fails, press Circle to cancel, and it will take you to your list and you can use Netflix like normal.

Now, as far as other services go, I?m not sure if similar processes will work for you, as the only third party content provider I use is Netflix. If you have any other workarounds for things like Hulu, etc, please let us know!

UPDATE:

This only works on some versions of the app (apparently they have different versions available at a given time for feature testing, etc), so it might be hit or miss, but still worth a shot. Also, apparently, this does not work on Hulu+, but I have only had one person mention that

Report: UK retailers say PS3 trade-ins doubling due to PSN outage

We're approaching the one-month anniversary of the PlayStation Network's deactivation due to that pesky security breach, and according to a report from Edge the downtime's starting to have an effect at UK games retailers. The report cites a number of anonymous game shop clerks, all of whom paint a fairly similar picture of the response to the outage: PlayStation 3 trade-ins have doubled in their respective stores in the past few weeks, with most shoppers exchanging their consoles for Xbox 360s or cash.

That may sound like a fairly inflammatory report, but the reasoning is sound: Almost all the retailers say these shoppers are hardcore FPS players, and are acquiring Xbox 360s to get back in their Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 routines. Furthermore, all of the retailers report an increased trade-in rate for the PS3 version of Black Ops. Trading in your gaming console sounds like a pretty drastic way to keep playing a game you love -- then again, we're no strangers to the siren call of the Killstreak.

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
