~WinGz~
Hey all, I am contemplating getting my first Macro lens. At the moment I am confused on what I should get since this shall be the first time getting into macro work. So I call upon the powers of Neowin's best to assist me. Budget really isn't an issue. But if it helps any I won't be doing insect photography. Mostly waterdrop macro since I enjoy it the most.
jakem1
What sort of camera do you own?
crazzy88ss
just go for top of the line macro lenses from nikon or canon if budget isn't an issue. I think nikon's is 105mm f2.8 VR and im sure canon has something very similar.

Draconian Guppy
^^ a D700 :p We all posted in his "now I have a d700 with $2000 glass on it" :p
Argote
Ah true, I forgot. Well you do seem to be in the ballpark to buy a Nikkor 105/2.8 which is supposed to be very good. The Tamron 90/2.8 Macro is cheaper and supposedly also very good. I've also heard some good things about the Sigma 105/2.8 Macro and Sigma 150/2.8 Macro. remus_lupin
I can vouch for Nikon's 105 f/2.8 VR Micro lens ^ Great lens. Great for macro work!
Andre
Sigma 180/3.5. I haven't shot with it for quite a while now, but it's one heck of a sharp lens. 1:1 ratio at 46cm/1.5ft. Fast and silent focusing. For its size, it's not heavy and balances quite well on D700. Overall I am quite happy with it.

~WinGz~
haha I own a D700 and money is no issue obviously. I just spent 3,000 dollars purchasing the 70-200mm 2.8 VR2 and insuring it for its cost and then some. But anyhow back on topic, so pretty much stick with the 105 then? Anyone have any examples of work shot with it and an honest owner critique on it.

~WinGz~
Thanks Crazy, looks to have some amazing bokeh in it. Also sharp where it needs to be :). Definite purchase then.
