Hey all, I am contemplating getting my first Macro lens.

At the moment I am confused on what I should get since this shall be the first time getting into macro work.

So I call upon the powers of Neowin's best to assist me.

Budget really isn't an issue. But if it helps any I won't be doing insect photography.

Mostly waterdrop macro since I enjoy it the most.

Ah true, I forgot.

Well you do seem to be in the ballpark to buy a Nikkor 105/2.8 which is supposed to be very good.

The Tamron 90/2.8 Macro is cheaper and supposedly also very good. I've also heard some good things about the Sigma 105/2.8 Macro and Sigma 150/2.8 Macro.

haha I own a D700 and money is no issue obviously. I just spent 3,000 dollars purchasing the 70-200mm 2.8 VR2 and insuring it for its cost and then some.

But anyhow back on topic, so pretty much stick with the 105 then?

Anyone have any examples of work shot with it and an honest owner critique on it.
