A recent T-Mobile update blocks Bixby button remapping on the Galaxy S8

While there was a lot of hype surrounding the arrival of Samsung's digital assistant Bixby, with the firm going so far as to dedicate a whole button for it on its latest Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ devices, there are still elements to Bixby that are not working, with the company having so far failed to deliver a fully functional voice companion outside of Korea.

While this wouldn't be such a bad thing if the physical button to summon Bixby could be remapped, it appears that Samsung and its partners are adamant about closing off that option to its users. To be clear, this was an option prior to the handsets' launch, but Samsung made sure to close the loophole, denying its customers the choice to do so. Luckily, the first road block did not stop developers from creating a new solution, again, opening up the ability to once again remap the physical Bixby button.

Unfortunately, those that are on T-Mobile may have noticed that a new over-the-air update has killed the ability to remap the button. All previous workarounds are now closed off once again, but this doesn't mean that developers will take this lying down. Like many things that have unofficial fixes or alterations, it will always be a back and forth interaction with the carrier or manufacturer, and all users can do now is wait for a new workaround.
