Just a day after Alienware's new Area-51, Maingear has announced the launch of its redesigned MG-1 gaming desktop. The company describes the new MG-1 as a ground-up reimagining of what made the original model successful, with improvements in chassis rigidity, thermal performance, cable management, and RGB lighting.
It is configurable with either AMD’s new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor or Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K, the system supports up to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 or AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics cards so that buyers have a wide range of options to choose from. Along with that, the MG-1 packs as much as 128GB of DDR5 memory and six NVMe SSDs. There is support for Maingear’s BYO RAM program that allows customers to use their own DDR5 kits with full validation and warranty coverage.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, debuting alongside the MG-1, is the first desktop CPU to feature AMD 3D V-Cache technology across both CCDs, offering a record 192MB of L3 cache (although this is likely to be surpassed by Intel in the next-gen). 3D V-cache can have big benefits in certain AI workloads. To cool this beast, Maingear has paired this with a top-mounted 360mm AIO radiator. Other cooling measures include three 140mm intake fans and a large bottom air scoop that directs air to the GPU, with the company claiming thermal performance superior to even open-air test benches.
The MG-1 also introduces Maingear’s MG-RC reverse connector system, which routes cables behind the motherboard for a cleaner look and improved turbulence-free airflow. RGB lighting, previously reserved for Maingear’s flagship APEX line, is now available on MG-1 with fully diffused lighting integrated throughout the chassis.

Customization extends to the front panel, which now features stronger magnets, a larger canvas for artwork, and optional raised 3D gloss textures. Maingear is launching a new panel art gallery with themes ranging from cyberpunk to retro cityscapes (picture at the very top), while also allowing customers to supply their own designs. The company notes that one in six MG-1 buyers previously opted for custom panels, and the redesign reflects that demand.
Connectivity options include 10Gb LAN, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4, while front I/O provides USB-A, USB-C, and a 3.5mm combo jack. Interestingly the firm touts a clean "bloatware-free" Windows 11 installation, suggesting that it is aware of users' dissatisfaction with the OS in its default form.

The MG-1 is available starting today at $1,999 in both pre-configured and fully customizable builds, with financing options offered through Bread Pay.
