Microsoft confirms that the Xbox One Kinect adapter is now discontinued

It was only a few months ago that Microsoft ceased the production of its Kinect. While the newer models of Xbox One don't come packaged with it, those that were interested in using the device on more recently produced consoles, still had the option of utilizing the Kinect Adapter. While the writing was on the wall for quite some time, the company has now confirmed that the adapter for the Xbox has been discontinued.

Speaking with Polygon, a Microsoft representative stated:

“After careful consideration, we decided to stop manufacturing the Xbox Kinect Adapter to focus attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming accessories across Xbox One and Windows 10”.

Those hoping to pick one up now will now need to dive into the second-hand market, such as eBay, where prices for the adapter have skyrocketed upwards, costing a few hundred dollars. Although the product could be reintroduced sometime in the future, it isn't looking likely, when questioned about the future of the adapter, the Microsoft representative stated that they cannot discuss what might be on the horizon, but did clarify that it “will no longer be available.”
