Microsoft releases Windows 10 builds 17134.285, 16299.665 - here's what's new

Today is the second Tuesday of the month, and that can only mean one thing: it's Patch Tuesday. This is the day that Microsoft released updates for all supported versions of Windows. Six different versions of Windows 10 got cumulative updates today, and that includes Windows 10 Mobile.

If you're on the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, or version 1803, you'll get KB4457128, which brings the build number to 17134.285. It can be manually downloaded here, and it contains the following fixes:

  • Provides protection against a Spectre Variant 2 vulnerability (CVE-2017-5715) for ARM64 devices.

  • Addresses an issue that causes the Program Compatibility Assistant (PCA) service to have excessive CPU usage. This occurs when the concurrency of two simultaneous add and remove programs (ARP) monitoring threads is not handled correctly.

  • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft scripting engine, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows media, Windows Shell, Windows Hyper-V, Windows datacenter networking, Windows virtualization and kernel, Windows Linux, Windows kernel, Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows MSXML, and Windows Server.

Interestingly, there are only a few fixes listed, which is the case for all of the updates today.

Next up is the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, or version 1709. People on that version will see KB4457142, bringing the build number to 16299.665. You can manually download it here, and it contains the following fixes:

  • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft scripting engine, Windows graphics, Windows media, Windows Shell, Windows cryptography, Windows virtualization and kernel, Windows datacenter networking, Windows hyper-V, Windows Linux, Windows kernel, Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows MSXML, and Windows Server.

Those that are on Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 will get KB4459082, and that contains the same changes as the updates for Windows 10 version 1703. In fact, all of the following updates include that exact same changelog.

Devices on the Windows 10 Creators Update, or version 1703, will get KB4457139, bringing the build number to 15063.1324. You can manually download it here. Those on the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) or Windows Server 2016 will see KB4457131, bringing the build number to 14393.2485, and you can manually download it here.

Finally, those on the original version of Windows 10, or version 1507, will get KB4457132, and that will bring the build number to 10240.17976. You can manually download it here.

Of course, you don't have to manually install any of these updates, as Windows Update will do it automatically.
