Sega announces Humankind, a new Civ-like historical strategy game

Sega announced Humankind during the gamescom live briefing today, a turn-based strategy game being developed by the studio behind the Endless franchise. The game is coming to Steam in 2020.

Sega had a new game to show off during the gamescom live show today, presenting Humankind, an upcoming historical strategy title from Amplitude Studios. See the announcement trailer above, featuring some gameplay footage near the end. Civilization fans should already be seeing some similarities.

Amplitude Studios has previously worked on the Endless franchise, so this isn't a new genre for it to tackle. The studio says that this turn-based 4X strategy title will let players make their own cultures to play as, drawing from 60 historical civilizations from the Bronze Age to the Modern Age

Players will experience famous historical events, scientific breakthroughs, and well-known figures in their playthroughs. There will be, of course, tactical combat, diplomacy and trade, as well as multiplayer support.

Humankind will be joining Sega's growing PC strategy games repertoire in 2020. Here's its newly set up Steam page for wishlisting.
