Sony announces price increases for PlayStation Plus memberships

Sony's PlayStation Plus program has long offered excellent value for its members. But starting next month, members will have to pay a little more, as the membership pricing will increase.

Per usual, Sony dropped news on its PlayStation Blog in regards to the upcoming free titles for those with PlayStation Plus memberships. Unfortunately, Sony also updated members, letting them know that the pricing of PlayStation Plus memberships would be increasing, starting next month.

Currently, PlayStation Plus subscribers pay $49.99 USD for yearly memberships and $17.99 for a three month subscription. On September 22nd, the yearly membership will rise $10 to $59.99 and the three month membership will increase $7 to $24.99. For those that are currently subscribed, the new price will come into effect when your renewal arrives.

Sony offered the following as the reason for the price increase:

The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members.

Sony closed by thanking its PlayStation Plus members for their ongoing support.
