GNOME 49 Alpha has been released, with new applications replacing older ones and changes to the display server protocol that X11 fans may not be happy about.

The Linux world is slowly moving away from X11 and leaning into Wayland. Kubuntu is now the latest distro to drop default support for X11 in new installs.
The Fedora project has decided to retire X11 sessions for the GNOME version in Fedora 43 in favor of Wayland.
Mozilla has released Firefox 84. It brings WebRender to more systems including some Linux computers, it's the last version to support Adobe Flash and it now supports Apple Silicon CPUs natively.
Fedora 25, which launched over one year ago with the new Wayland display server, has now reached end-of-life meaning it'll no longer be updated. You should now upgrade to a newer version of Fedora.
Debian 10 "Buster", due for release in 2019, will likely ship with the new window manager, Wayland, but will also come with X11 as a fallback in case people's hardware doesn't support it.
