Windows Maps updated for Fast ring Insiders - here's what's new

Microsoft today updated the Windows Maps app for Windows Insiders that are in the Fast ring. The new update, version 5.1610.2953.0, contains the ability to group favorite places into collections.

Windows Insiders on the Fast ring will find a number of Microsoft apps updated today, including Skype Preview, Groove Music, Movies & TV, and Windows Maps. Today's Maps update brings the app to version 5.1610.2953.0, and it's only for Windows, rather than also for Xbox One.

Microsoft says that one of the most requested features for the app is to be able to "organize your favorites, and save places into collections." This update aims to do exactly that, allowing users to organize their favorites or add different places to different lists.

The update also aims to make it easier to add places as favorites or to a collection. You'll be able to open the collection or favorites list and add the place from there, or you can do it from the details pane of the location.

The third and final new feature is a somewhat minor one. It will now show your home, work, and the place you parked your car at the top of your favorites list, making it easier to get to. Microsoft also says it will take up less space.

If you're on the Fast ring, you can manually update your Maps app right here.
