Windows Terminal 1.1 is in preview with font weights, different color tabs, and more

Today, Microsoft is releasing Windows Terminal Preview version 1.1, and it contains a whole bunch of new features.

First up, you can now choose to open files with Windows Terminal from the File Explorer. To be clear, it's still going to launch Windows Terminal Preview until Windows Terminal 1.1 is out for everyone. You can also now set Windows Terminal to launch at startup by setting startOnUserLogin to true in global settings. There's also a new fontweight profile setting.

You can also now Alt-click to open panes. This will use the auto-split feature, opening the new pane along the longest axis. These selections can be found in the dropdown next to your tabs.

There's a new color picker for tabs. All you have to do is right-click on the tab and choose the color option. Any color can be used, and you can use custom RGB or hex codes if you want. Another new thing you can do by right-clicking is rename the tab.

There are a few more minor features, such as compact tabs. If you set tabWidthMode to compact in global settings, all of the inactive tabs will be small. Microsoft added some new command line arguments as well, along with a way to open defaults.json with the keyboard.

Again, all of this is in the preview version of the app, so it will arrive in the production version soon.
