I ran Jan Update by installing the original AutoPatcherXP and installing the Jan update over it using the installer. I don't need to install all the updates up to Jan, do I?

Actually, I am 99.9% sure you need to apply ALL the updates if you are just upgrading the orignal. Otherwise just go download the full version.

Someone else asked about this at this thread [LINK]

Hi Guys

Having used the full 12/03 AutoPatcher & installed it to a folder in Program Files - and then run it, can you please advise how to install the 1/04 update. I tried this but it appears to install but I cannot see any result. :( Also if I try to run th 12/03 full again it says it cannot run.

Can someone please run thru' the procedure for both from the beginning.

Thanks in advance.

Here ya go:

Step 1: Extract the December Full Version somewhere out onto your Hard Drive.

Step 2: Extract the Jan Update out somewhere onto your Hard Drive.

Step 3: Run the Update.exe file in the Extracted Jan Update Folder.

Step 4: When prompted, browse to the AutoPatcher.exe file located in your December Release Folder.

Step 5: Let it update.

Step 6: Run AutoPatcher_Menu.exe from your December Release Folder, it will now Be the Jan Release.

The End! :)

I also have a problem. When I installed the Dec. Update, it took me like an hour and a half. When I installed the Jan. FULL update which is supposed to have everything from the previous ones in it, it took like ten minutes and nothing much changed. I installed the Jan. Update on a clean system just reinstalled. Can I install the Dec full even if I already installed the Jan full?

Hmmm... when you installed the Jan Update, you had everything checked?? That's quite odd... and it was a freshly re-installed system?

Oops! I applied the Full AuthoPatcher Jan. Update to a clean install. I had almost all the options selected. Installation finished very smoothly. When I tried to configure the Messenger, I didn't find it there. So, I checked Windows Updates and ended up having to install 25 critical and recommended updates. Here're the critical updates:

330994

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB824145)

Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows XP (KB828035)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows XP (KB825119)

Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Windows XP (KB826939)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB824105)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB823182)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB824141)

Security Update for Windows XP (KB824146)Download size: 1.5 MB

814078: Security Update (Microsoft Jscript version 5.6, Windows 2000, Windows XP)

Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026)

Interesting... all of that should have installed. :s The only way I could think it wouldn't... hmmm... question, when it first ran, did it ask you if you wanted to use logs that it found? If so, that could have caused this...

yep, thats about the same problem with mine. I didn't even have windows media player 9 installed afterwards. Yes, this is a clean install, i got ready for the jan. update because i thought that it would include the nov. and dec. ones too. I got the pack that was about 220 mb and all except maybe 3 were selected.

That's extremely odd. :/ That contains everything... hmmm... we'll have to look into this more. I wonder if anyone besides you two have had this issue.

I, as I mentioned above, had the same problem. When I tried to use them, the Messenger and Windows Media Player were gone and I couldn't repair them either. I reapplied the AutoPatcher but it was in vain, I got the same problem: most of the selected updates weren't installed and the files for Messenger and WMP were removed from my computer. I had to use the file versions of both programs to install them.

Now, I reinstalled Windows and applied the December Version of AutoPatcher and everything thing works like a dream. I could even use StyleXP v2.0 without getting the Windows build number error.

Best and thanks for your effort and time to resolve these issues.

Well, so far the only ones reporting this are you and LiLViEtDuDe917... and I feel bad because it seem to work fine for me here, and no one else is reporting the issue. :/ Anywho... we'll work on it, and if anyone else has an issue with this, please post!

i do have the same problem here...already formated about 3 times & reinstalled jan update (downloaded the full version) and i got more than half updates not-installed...includes msn & media player not installed...

besides that when i check windows update to see if there are any new patches around i seem to be getting 15 critical updates & 15 patches already seemed to be included in autopatcher jan!!!

Hrmm... okay, well... I'm definately gonna have to retest this myself... this is quite odd... :/ Well, when I figure out the cause/fix, you'll all be the first to know. (Y)

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
