American faces jail time for bringing manga to Canada

Poorly written news piece. I dont think they're dumb enough not to be able to distinguish between comic books and child pornography. Clearly there's something else about that manga

It was probably lolicon mangas... It depicts childlike female character in erotic situations... IMHO there's a very thin line between this and real life pedophile material. Pretty messed up stuff

That is seriously screwed up on many levels. First and foremost that a customs officer can access your personal data WITHOUT a warrant. Second is that in PC Canada, Manga is kiddy porn. Does that also mean he will now be on a sex offender registry? Mandatory minimums to boot?

The problem is:

the definition of child prono in USA/Canada is far more stricter than other places. And its common in Japanese manga to have kids exposing their underwear unintentionally if you put it into context.

Then we have a conflict in culture values.

For those here who prefer their milk in bags, does it have to be NC-17 material?

To put in other words, can someone get in trouble for borderline-hentai? What about ecchi manga and anime? What about the commonplace bathing scenes?

What? Some of the comments here are disgusting - I know we have cultural differences, but there's some things that globally are just plain wrong. you don't do and moreover you don't need laws to tell you it's morally wrong.

I mean... milk in bags? REALLY?

Edit: NVM

You get used to it, and I remember reading that the implementation of bags is underway in the U.K.

No, an American's 4th amendment rights wouldn't apply in foreign countries, although Canada has an equivalent in its constitution. Try defending your 4th amendment rights in Iran, I'm sure they'll treat you well. Either way, if you say no to a TSA/airport security search, they can simply turn you away, 4th amendment rights or not. You can technically say no to an airport/border security search.

I realize that but the conversation regarding the 4th ammendment was to do with people entering the USA, not Canada.

There are also porno manga and these are naked comics having sex. Nothing wrong with this, it's just comics, not real life teens or girls.

I don't know about Canada but the sort of comics and cartoons you're referring to are illegal in Australia:

My partner recently bought milk in a bag...here in the UK. Needless to say I was disgusted, confused and a little curious but quickly insisted that we return to normal milk in a plastic bottle. To be honest, I'd successfully suppressed the memory until reading this thread

I would just love to meet this intelligent customs officer who had never heard of manga. :D

I have no idea what manga is -- never saw it before, and don't much care.

Call me ignorant or oblivious but I have no idea what this talk is about milk in bags. Enlighten me?

Edit: Oh look at that I hit 2000 posts.

I wasn't sure if people were referring to some odd fetish..thing..or something..considering how repulsed some people are getting. Being in the US, I've only ever seen milk in a carton or plastic bottle. At most it just seems cumbersome to contain milk in a bag.

anyone into this stuff is just simply disturbed... its creepy stuff if you think about it.

Go look up furry some time...

Chikan is also something rather unique to Japan.

not really it happens where ever there's mass transit.

Why people get disgusted with milk in a bag? Just different container.

It makes me think of people who make fun of generic cereal that is packaged in plastic bags unlike name brand cereal which is packaged in plastic bags (unless it Corn Pops they use a bag made of foil) inside a box.

Well this you mentioned doesn't have the same degree as "disgusted".

I only found out it was odd to NOT have milk in a bag about a year ago...

I mean, we have options, we can get it in a jug, carton, BAG... Obviously you put it in a milk jug first lol, cuts down on recycling, it's a lot easier to fold a used bag into a tiny space compared to throwing out a large plastic jug... It just makes sense?

Also, I am sure it's cheaper in materials...

Edit: for those who may not know what a bag of milk looks like...

Milk Bags V2.0

A site completely dedicated to, by a canadian, milk bags! Enjoy! Also, the FAQs are quite amusing...

Q: I think milk bags would cause more problems. See, someone can accidently throw the jug and it wouldn't spill easily. The milk bag would (if it were already open) and SPLASH. - it would create a mess.

A: How can you accidently throw a milk bag anyway?

Q: *walks into the kitchen* Hmm...some milk with donuts would be nice! *grabs the pitcher. it slips* WHOOPS.

A: They're not soap. They're usually pretty well into the pitcher. And then you have the weight of the bag.

Q: So they're not slippery?

A: No.

Q: Oh...
