Weapons? What do you own?

Recommended Posts

Mainly people complain about the weight, sights and furniture. Most people run AR-15's here because a Sig 556 offers no real advantage.

right i see. would had been fun to compare the AR-15 when I was in the army. but then again, the shooting part was less than 5% of what I did :-P

I have removed a few posts that were replying to leesmithg - I just wanted to point out that there were no issues with what was said but in an effort to keep out another gun debate thread I've removed them.

Like I said above, if people want to debate gun use/collection etc then please do so here; https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1144670-big-gun-control-debate/

So I've noticed, I guess from carrying it in a gun rack with rubber pads in my pickup and on my 4 wheeler, the anodized finish has started to wear off the underside of the barrel.  It's not the end of the world, but it's making me consider just getting the whole thing re-painted with cera kote.

I did my shotgun with the do it yourself  duracoat kit, its holding up good.

Hello,

Out of curiosity, does anyone own any 3D printer weapons?

I've thought about buying a 3-D printer to print replacements for the plastic parts on some of my weapons like the pistol grip, collapse-able part of the butt-stock, barrel shrouds, etc., but I can't bring myself to pony up that much money for a 3-D printer when I can get professionally manufactured parts much cheaper.  I too though am curious to see how popular, if at all, 3-D guns will become.  There's some serious limitations on caliber and pressures that would be suit-able in an all-plastic gun, so at the moment I think the only people who would be interested in making one would be hobbyists doing it just to see if they can, and somebody trying to get a weapon that works "good enough" through a metal detector.  However, if somebody wanted to print a plastic body and start adding metal parts like a steel barrel and chamber and such, so that the plastic itself was not directly contacting the cartridge, there's some real possibilities for very personalized, custom guns coming out of 3-D printers.

Do airsoft guns count?

I've got a light for my real AR-15 that actually came off an airsoft gun that belonged to my uncle.  His airsoft rifle broke and we noticed that the dimensions for the picatinny rails on it were actually realistic, so his airsoft accessories actually fit my real AR-15.

Yeah but will it hold up. A lot of stuff that is made for airsoft guns will fit real firearms. I mean Magpul made the PTS line for airsoft guns but discontinued it because gun owners were putting them on real firearms and having the PTS stuff break so they discontinued the PTS line.

I don't use it.  I might use it for shooting possums in the chicken house, but it's not an LED, and only using a couple AAA batteries with an incandescent bulb doesn't really produce much light.  I just thought it was kind of cool that the measurements were actually accurate.

I have a friend that put the an arisoft forrend on his rifle and put a red dot on one of its picatinny rails really dumb but it fits and works like the real thing   however it is super cheap chinese pot metal thats super obviouse if you were to take it off and look

Just wanted to share this with you guys, I've had a hell of a day trying to get into my gun cabinet, lol.

Yeah, my goal was to do as little damage to the safe as possible so I could continue using it just as a cabinet.  That, and my rifle was literally 2 inches inside the door, as well as some live 12 gauge shells on a shelf, so going at it with a cutting torch or a large saw would have ended badly.  I'm not sure if drilling the lock contributed to me being able to force the whole assembly to rotate like it did, but the fact that it did at all kind of made me feel like I should have tried that first.

Here is what I am often seen carrying.

My wife carried a Springfield XD sub-compact for a while.  Outstanding pistol, but the slide on it was really strong and she had problems racking it back, so I sold it.  I figure if she has trouble charging it at the range, she probably wouldn't be able to put it into operation in the event she was under stress and had to use it for self defense.

What did you end up getting for her? I'm in a similar situation with my wife. She finds the XDm slide too hard to rack and it won't be good for a self defense scenario for her. I was considering looking at a sub compact XD, but if it is the same then that isn't encouraging.

    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
