Blizzard is dropping the AH from the PC version of Diablo 3!!

We are writing tell you about an important change to Diablo III: we're going to be removing the gold and real-money auction house system from the game.

When we initially designed and implemented the auction house system, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But after much review and player feedback, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot.

We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the final shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process, but feel free to check out our blog post on the subject, and stay tuned to Diablo 3.com for further details.

Surprised they are putting off until March 18th though... wish they would pull the plug immediately followed by a patch that brings loot drops closer to how they are on the console.

Posted about already here...I'm personally betting that March 18th (or around there) is the currently planned date for the Loot 2.0 patch (and possibly the expansion release date). Only reason they would wait so long IMO is they want to finish up the Loot 2.0 patch before bombing the AH so people don't whine as much when the AH goes away. If it wasn't for the upcoming loot patch, chances are they would have dropped the AH by now.

I mostly agree with you except for the fact that they said they were going to release the loot 2.0, paragon 2.0, and loot run dungeons as a separate patch before the expansion.

The expansions likely to come later in the year, I'm thinking another May release.

Friends and Family beta is going on for Reaper of Souls and closed beta will be happening soon. It just started today. This is pretty big because I don't think anyone expected any sort of beta in what's left of 2013.

What interests me is that there is no NDA. Perhaps because people have already data mined a lot of stuff about the game so they didn't see a point?

And maybe this thread should be moved to the general gamers hangout area since the game is no longer pc only?

But Shadrack has a point, that's what you sounded like, madd-hatter. So, how many hours did you play Diablo 3 for?

I think Diablo 3 is a great game, I've definitely received my moneys worth and then some. I've played it 10x longer than I've played TL2 and I only paid 4x the price. It's one of my 'goto' games when I'm bored of the other ones. I look forward to the expansion.

It's not a bad game. But it's nothing to write home either. I had as much fun playing Torchlight 2 and honestly i have more fun with Path of Exile so far.

Done.

I've had the chance to watch of RoS live streams in the last day, and I gotta say..all the changes they're making to the game look fantastic and crusader looks really fun to play. I'll definitely be making one.

At level 60~ people are picking up 1600 dps blue weapons. That's pretty crazy.

Also some of the higher difficulties actually look somewhat challenging. Which is kind of surprising.

I agree.  I'm really excited as well.  I hope they release the PS4 version along side the PC version but I think they will probably space it out to get suckers like me to buy the game a couple more times...

Since the announcement of Diablo 3 + RoS coming to PS4, I'm basically saving up for that.

I may be misremembering things but I'm pretty sure they said they were releasing both at the same time.

I would buy the ps4 version if it can at the very least, play along with the ps3 version, my son is really into it and wants to play co op modes, (and I'm tapped out too close to Christmas to think about a controller while everything else also needs to be taken care of at the same time)

Playing the 360 version coop with my step-sons has been a blast.  Kinda bummed that there is no expansion announcement for the 360, but at the same time I'm going to be bitty for a new console next year anyway (waiting for the first good game like D3+RoS to land).

off topic, but I noticed you have step children too? I call him son and he calls me dad but he's not my biological son,

kudos :)

As long as a wizard uses a 1600 dps sword just as effectively as a barb, who cares?

The game is flawed at it's foundation and although RoS brings more flash, new systems are being built on top of existing flawed systems... It won't work.

It'll be fun for a day because it's "new" and then people will begin to realize that it didn't gain any real depth and remains an overall casual experience that doesn't justify the hours it asks you to invest.

I wish I was wrong. But I've played the beta and I know that no D2 devs remain with the my once beloved D franchise. So it's no fun for me when I say that D3 remains disappointing.

I think you missed the point of that post. Right now, before their loot 2.0 system a rare/legendary weapon with 1600 dps would be considered amazing. But after loot 2.0 and the new difficulty changes a blue 1600 dps is not that great.

Nope, I mentioned the flawed systems and overall level of disappointment...

What's the difference between 1600 dps and 160 dps? Did Michael Bay assist the game direction of D3?

My buddy and I are grinding out hardcore some more (to get some high level characters) before the expansion lands.

I'm really looking forward to the expansion.  For me, D3 just has an excellent coop experience and I'm looking forward to the new content to expand on that experience.  I also didn't realize how much funner hardcore mode is compared to normal (for me anyway).  With more risk comes more reward.

I was looking forward to it until they announced it is going to have only ONE CLASS! Previous D2 expansion had at least 2 classes.

EA/Blizzard is just milking players' money this time.

I'm gonna skip the expansion. I paid $40 for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm and I barely played it. I'm not going to do the same thing again. It's not anything against the game either. I just don't have the time to play all the games I have. Right now, most of my gaming time is spent enjoying Dota 2 with my friends. Whatever is left is spent enjoying Battlefield 4. If it goes on sale and most of my friends buy it, then I'll get it too.

    • Mozilla highlights Firefox Nova 2026 redesign and more upcoming features with new roadmap by Sayan Sen Last month Mozilla confirmed that Firefox was set to get a major redesign this year. Dubbed "Project Nova", it can already be tested and will roll out to all users later this year. The idea is to keep the browser competitive in a rapidly evolving internet landscape. As such the revamp focuses on improving privacy, usability, performance, accessibility, and customization. Key privacy features including the built-in VPN, private browsing mode, and Enhanced Tracking Protection, will be more visible and easier to manage, while users will have the option to disable AI features entirely through a dedicated kill switch. Additionally, the redesign promises faster page loading, the return of Compact mode, expanded personalization options, and stronger accessibility support. You can find the full details in the dedicated piece linked above. In a new blog post today the company once again reiterated on Nova and also emphasized other new and upcoming features like the settings revamp that is intended to make it easier for users to understand browser settings. In order to make it simpler for users to keep up with such features Mozilla today is launching Firefox roadmap. Hence enthusiasts and interested users will be able to check out what's cooking and also share feedback about the upcoming additions. Alongside the roadmap announcement, Mozilla also highlighted what's new in Firefox 152. One of the biggest additions is the arrival of Tab Groups on Android. The feature, which has already been helping desktop users organize large numbers of tabs, is now beginning to roll out on mobile. Users will be able to group related tabs together, assign names and colors to them, and return to them later. Mozilla says support for iOS will arrive later this year. Firefox 152 also introduces the aforementioned redesigned Settings experience. The company says the changes are meant to make controls easier to find and help users discover features they may not have previously known about. Existing preferences are not changing, though they are now better organized. Another notable addition is the new Blocked Tracker Widget, which provides a visual overview of Firefox's privacy protections by showing how many trackers have been blocked over time and the types of tracking activity the browser has stopped. Looking ahead, Mozilla revealed several upcoming roadmap features. They include customizable keyboard shortcuts, as well as enhanced PDF editing tools that will allow documents to be split, merged, and reorganized directly within Firefox. The company is also working on bringing Multi-Account Containers into the native Firefox experience thus removing the need for a separate extension. Meanwhile Firefox's built-in VPN is set to expand to mobile devices. Mozilla is also developing AI-powered features like Quick Answers, which can provide concise responses to voice queries, and Smart Window, its optional AI browsing experience that is now available without a waitlist. Finally, a new Power Saving Mode is in the works and will help reduce the impact of resource-heavy tabs on mobile devices in order to extend battery life. The video below summarizes the upcoming changes in an easy to understand format: You can find the announcement blog post here on Mozilla's official website.
    • Dead on arrival at that price. Like they missed the mark by multiple hundreds of dollars - this should actually undercut the Macbook Air at $899 if they want any sort of sales / further adoption of WoA
    • Wow, 50% increase for the base model. That's steep!
    • A group made up of dozens of cybersecurity experts, including several well-known veterans of the industry, published an open letter to the U.S. government asking it to lift the export control order on Anthropic’s Fable and Mythos models. According to the open letter, “this action has taken the best models away from [cybersecurity] defenders” who now can’t use the models to find vulnerabilities and make their software and products more secure. “To pull the best capabilities away from defenders without a good reason when our adversaries are rapidly advancing is dangerous,” read the letter. On Friday, the U.S. government ordered Anthropic to limit the export of Fable and Mythos, citing national security concerns, without explaining the specific reasons behind the order, according to Anthropic. In response, the company suspended access to the models to all users worldwide.     https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/15/cybersecurity-vets-protest-dangerous-us-government-ban-on-anthropics-most-powerful-models/
