I'm still curious, and that's not bad a number considering it's only been open for about 9 hours and nobody can submit apps yet.

Or can you submit apps since today?

No sure about submitting, but it looks like there are new apps in there with next to no rating yet vs some with high ratings, I screenshot the top free in my last post (Think its dropped a page back)

I'm right now in the customer preview, so far... not bad except for the start menz that it's verz much needed...

Questions:

How do I run a program? as in the very nice "Run program" or the search bar that the start menu had?

How do I disable UAC?

Testing...

Start Screen and start typing...

You can disable UAC in the control panel.

Of course. The hit target for the click isn't one pixel, once you've triggered the preview. And getting to the corner is literally the easiest thing you can do with a mouse. There's no targeting required. You don't even need to look at the screen.

Yes if only one monitor, but multi-monitor 3 same size it's horrible to hit corner quickly.

Apps should get pinned to Start by default. If you're looking for one that isn't, you can:

1) Right-click on the background then click "All Apps"

2) Click on the Search charm, which will also transition to "All Apps" view

3) Search for it. You can just start typing anytime you're in Start to do a search.

The search box, when in Start, maintains the full command line / path completion functionality it had in the old start menu.

You can get to Run by right-clicking in the lower-left hand corner of the screen, no matter where you are in the system.

I wonder if anyone else is having the same problem I'm having running Outlook 2010 in the W8 consumer preview.

Everything was great until I went to software updates and there were some updates to install. After I installed them I am not able to download my email.

Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Nope.

Not in *either* partition (upgraded both 7 and DP to CP).

You do know there are other wallpapers you can use right? Or you could download some..

I liked the wallpapers' style, just the giant 8 killed it for me. You do know you do not have to use the modified one right? Figured since I took the time to remove it, I'd post it for others if they wanted it.

I'm not certain how much I really like it yet, but I can say I don't dislike it. I feel this is absolutely a step in the right direction, but think that it may take another distribution(version, say 9) to get there. I'm very excited to see where the new world of personal computing is headed....

Also, a magic mouse or the MS concept (was it, or maybe it was released, IDK) touch-based mouse would absolutely compliment this OS or even one of those apps that allow you to utilize your phone as a touchpad.

Don't know if anyone has caught onto this or not, but in the lower left corner of the screen, if you *right* click, you get a nice little menu filled with goodies. :)

Nope, but nice find.... I just wish it wasn't so sensitive that I had to be precisely in the corner.

Is Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus required in W8CP?

I had heard defender will incorporate mse but need confirmation on whether this is true.

Do I need to install mse?

Don't think you can install MSE from what I have read. I believe its built into Win8

No, more like, How do I autostart a program the way it used to be in Win 7, I know it can be done throught the task scheduler but the easiest way is just to drach a shortcut of the said program into the start menu (windows 7), startup folder.

That way it would be autoexecuted next restart... that still exist in windows 8?

You dont have to be precisely in the corner, throw the mouse in the bottom corner, right click. Like Brandon said, it's not a 1 pixel window when you get there.

I an also going to have nightmares about this. God help us all.

Well, everything technically "works", it installed on the domain without any problems. It found all my drivers, and other than some text issues in IE10, and Chrome, it "works". I have my Xbox live account hooked up, SkyDrive is working, and it seems everything is there. Having said all that, I simply hate it. I should not have to run past Metro anything to access my desktop. I should not have to tell users that they have two internet explorers, and that they are not the same. The scroll down list on the left is terrible, the right-click on the lower left is almost a must, but shouldn't have to be there at all (should have been in a new control panel). The right side settings/devices/search just needs help. It sometimes adds separate Metro tiles for each "part" of an install, so some programs have around eight new tiles for a single program. Well, I really didn't need anymore job security, but this really seems to be a larger jump than 3.11 > 95, because at least everything was in one place, and that is the reason that the start menu has lasted as long as it has.

I'm going to have nightmares about supporting the home user.

It may be my virtual environment... I'm doing this within vmWare fusion in Lion. So that may just be the culprit as currently I have to be far enough that the "start" icon to populate and unfortunately it isn't always a fluid action, as I would expect.

But, I would def. assume that would not be the case in a physical environment (or tons of ppl would be complaining)... Perhaps something is screwy with my resolutions.

Thanks for the clarification tho!
