Can you elaborate more and give examples of tasks that are taking forever and other points you raise?

Yes, finding their list of printers, favorites (Metro IE), usually the first thing is where are the files or (my stuff), Skydrive copy and email attempt (younger user), installing then looking for the app on the desktop, finding an clicking on apps they use that also installs other things that sound or start somewhat the same (like appname-uninstall), making an IE link from an already open Metro window, making shortcuts in general on the desktop (they have tons already), logging out/switching user, how do I drag something into the Metro, Why are there two browsers?, how do i print this? (in Metro IE), how do I print this PDF (from Reader), where is My Documents, where is My Computer (trying to get into a network drive) then how do I get that on the first page (Metro), why is the writing so small? (Metro 15" Laptop native), where is my last used list? (I'm guessing programs, but she started clicking other things), I don't have an Xbox (From an over 60, I really laughed), the mouse wheel does not scroll (must replace mouse, was in app store).

I'm still having them go at it, but this is some of the feedback.

I dont know how I feel about the IE interface when in Metro.... It feels so... uncustomizable. But then when under IE on normal Desktop I feel like I can do so much more..... Any ways to alter how IE acts when browsing in Metro?

You could do that in Windows 7 by mapping your SkyDrive account as a WebDAV folder (though don't ask me how, I've long forgotten, so Google is your friend! :p). There will be an easier / "native" way to do it by the time Windows 8 comes out though.

Quick Warning...

Don't even try to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview if you have an additional Sata III controller card, I did, I have the Asus U3S6 card (not a very rare one), it does Sata III and USB 3, Windows 8 install hangs at the progress wheel. This is a common problem on the Microsoft forums. I tried installing by just plugging my Sata III drive onto my onboard Sata II ports. This completed, then I installed the Windows drivers for the controller card, in the belief that I would then be able to plug the drive back into the card and boot with full Sata III speed. Wrong! The exact same hang happens.

So be warned! :)

Again, this is going to take some getting use to. No one learns this in an hour. I will say, however, that I've got it down pretty good after 3 days.

And, you are telling this person(s) that this IS a beta, right? There are a lot of unfinished items including apps. You can certainly chalk a good portion up to that. I mean, there's going to be issues and we don't exactly know what MS is or isn't doing to rectify those for release. It's a beta, so discussion and feedback is key. There are a few things I've found as well that would make for a better experience in my opinion.

If MS could find a way to integrate the Desktop better with the Metro environment, that would be a big plus. Also, names under the preview windows for the apps they represent. In the case of really large monitors, the previews are too small and you can't always tell what app it is.

Anyway, keep getting that feedback and let's contribute to the helping MS make the best product they can.

The thing that bugs me (the most) about the Metro interface is that it doesn't seem to support extended desktops....at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but metro apps will only work on one monitor, correct?

I think your wrong. If your just talking about the metro start page your correct... But If your talking about metro apps I think they will be able to be extending over additional desktops.

Go into IE desktop and make sure that it's set as default browser. If not, put it back and the tile should show up. And, like Detection said, you can just start typing Internet Explorer, find it, right click and repin it to Start.

Same bug as the Dev Preview then, except I didn't unpin it, it just started opening the desktop one

The "special" partition that Windows create has grown to 350Mb with Win8.... A jump from 100Mb in Win7...

The lack of better integration between Metro and Desktop is jarring. IE10 Metro and Desktop should be able to share the same Favorite, history, cookies. It makes no sense to have to do everything twice.

And I know it's a preview, but darn, all the Metro apps seems to be simple demo, quite unfinished product.

It's not looking good.

I'm sorry, but my workflow could never work with only an app-and-a-quarter open at a time and a broken multitasking paradigm that requires a lot of mouse movement and some guessing as to which app thumbnail is the one I want. Obviously Microsoft's devs can't really deal with it either because Visual Studio isn't an Immersive app.

It's clear that Microsoft haven't had the time or resources to develop a Metro Visual Studio app yet, so that is unfair. If Microsoft developers can't deal with this new workflow concept and this new idea of multitasking, why would they have developed Windows 8 in this way? They'll most likely be using Windows 8 for their work.

My partner is literate with Windows 7, I just gave her Windows 8 and she got extremely irate trying to turn the thing off. Windows 8 has a terrible UI, it's not intuitive...

When installing an EXE she was stuck at the smart screen for ages until I pointed her in the right directed to click that TINY more info link to show the install button.

If Microsoft developers can't deal with this new workflow concept and this new idea of multitasking, why would they have developed Windows 8 in this way? They'll most likely be using Windows 8 for their work.

I don't think Microsoft developers have any input in making decisions but Managers and some Arhitects, probably most of MS Employees hate it haha

Yeah I agree, it wont be intuitive for people. I am glad I am a programmer so wont have to deal with phone calls when this comes out.

Desktop and Metro are impossible to integrate so something will have to go away in the future. The reason i say impossible is that they don't belong to each other. Two completely different mind sets like they came from two different companies.

they have renamed it "optimize drive"

the good thing about it ,it no longer try to defragment SSD instead it utilize "trim"

Anyone here running the CP with a Pioneer Blu-ray drive (BDR-205 or BDR-206)? For some reason my Blu-ray drive wasn't recognized when I installed and isn't being detected by the OS.

What happens for domain join and the secure login window? Do you have to CTRL-ALT-DEL before you can slide to unlock? lol

Different competency and patience levels for different folks. I just built a new system for a friend and we wound up wiping his HD. I gave him the choice of Win 7 or Win 8 letting him know that Win 8 was beta but in theory most things that worked with Win 7 should work. He opted for Win 8.

I installed it and told him to call me if he had any questions. I've gotten exactly one call from him and that call started out because he accidentally unplugged the front usb cable from the MoBo while connecting the side fans. He's taken to it quite well and with few issues.
