LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police said a Lancaster County man's short-lived crime spree turned south when he tried to pay for gas with a stolen debit card and the clerk saw her mother's name on it.

Joshua Devonshire fled the Turkey Hill store on Columbia Avenue as the clerk reported the crime, but police said she already knew his name because she went to school with him.

The clerk also called her mother, who went to check on her car and saw Devonshire jump in another vehicle and flee the area, police said. Several bank cards were missing from her car.

A neighbor of the mother later reported that someone had stolen a diamond ring and professional haircutting instruments valued at over $2,000 from her car, according to police.

Devonshire was later found as he slept in a vehicle. He admitted to the crimes and was sent to Lancaster County Prison on $3,000 bail, police said.
