Not sure the boy should be put on the sex offenders register, though surely a 12 year old cannot make such a consensual decision without knowing the main consequences, law or not law. Maybe a chastity belt should become mandatory :D

this is rather crazy. I knew of someone who was put on a sex offenders register for having sex with a girl who was 15 who told the guy she was 16. He dumped her months later so as revenge she went to the police and said she was underage.

Call me old fashioned, but if I had a 12 year old daughter, and this was her.... Needless to say, I would NOT be happy right now. Consensual or not.

You might not be happy but would you involve the police? It's difficult to understand how this even ended up in court when a simple chat with the kids involved would have sorted everything out.

You're damn right, I would! But if I end up having a daughter someday, she'll know better. Yes, I'll be one of "those" parents. The boys who come calling will know to fear me.

This seems to be happening more and more... whatever happened to going into places you shouldn't be and getting in trouble with the cops? now it just seems sex sex and sex is the norm for adolescents. Today's generation is just all screwed up imo

It's got nothing to do with "Today's Generation" in the 19th century stuff like this happened all the damn time just from 1900-1999 we seemed to have very few decades without war which forcefully changed attitudes towards things but now that we're in a relatively peaceful time now and yes it is peaceful compared to the first half the 20th century things are just slowly getting back to what it once was before.

A 14 yr. old with 12 yr. old is considered rape? What?

No, it doesn't matter how old the guy is, as long as the girl is younger than 13 years old.

Not that it makes any sense, but the law is clear about it.

Dot Matrix, you wouldn't be happy even if she was 30, that's how parents are like. It's always different when it's your child.

You're right, but my view has always been, if you're not old enough to take care of it yourself, you have no business doing the deed.

I've had classmates that have felt the need to have a child, yet they'll dump it in their parents hands every weekend when when they go out to party. That ****es me off. If you wanted a child, then it's up to you to take care of it, not dump it in your parent's hands every weekend.

I agree that it makes no sense.

UK is also 16. France & Greece are 15, so not much different.

One wrinkle in the US is civil commitment; under some state laws they can incarcerate an adjudged pedophile in a psychiatric institution or psychiatric prison indefinitely.

You don't get it. What is wrong with two people getting it on when they are in the same age range?

Sry double post.

It does matter in cases like this, because legally the boy isn't old enough to be having sex, either.

I don't wanna live on this planet anymore.

This is ridiculous that the boy will be messed up for life due to a social status of rapist being held over his head for something he did as a minor. He will have a hell of a time getting anything done correctly. Jobs are limited, Relationships wont exist. These laws need re-doing. They are only hurting people in the long run. Yes it was wrong , but he cant learn from his mistakes if he is to be punished for the rest of his lifetime.

Adolescent offenders often take a 'set' for that age victim and continue to re-offend.

Are you kidding me? He most likely chose his partner that he knows well (in the same class) and close to the same age.

I seriously doubt that when he's 18, his partner will be a 12 year old girl.

What he wanted to say is : If they let him go now for what he did, he could do it again before reaching the legal age. ( could be at a friend party or something like that ) .

But if they properly punish him now then him and the others in his town might reconsider twice before doing this again.

It is a shame he will have to learn the hard way, but hey kids this day's they think they are over everything and that because they are under the legal age they can get away with anything.

Time to man up, if you want to act like adults , pay like them.

Just my two cents on this

Edit : sorry wanted to quote also the poster you quoted but i miss it.

This one here :

So, a 14 year old will continue to have sex with 12 year old girls even when he's 40. And all that just because he experimented with sex (maybe even for the first time) and his schoolmate consented in doing it.

Unbelievable.

What happened to old style punishment? No more spanking and detention? You are saying that he deserve to be a sex offender?

I agree - these kids need to get it pounded in early that many states can charge them as adults at very young ages, some under 10. Michigan has charged 11 year olds as adults for murder.

I disagree with this form of punishment. Do you believe that jaywalking should be punishable by jail-time to "get it pounded in early" too?

You're damn right, I would! But if I end up having a daughter someday, she'll know better. Yes, I'll be one of "those" parents. The boys who come calling will know to fear me.

So you are OK knowing that because of you, a 14-year old boy has to register as sex offender? How would you sleep at night?

You're right, but my view has always been, if you're not old enough to take care of it yourself, you have no business doing the deed.

While I agree with your statement, I don't see how having children register as sex offenders is the right form of punishment.

The law is the law. There's age of consent laws for a reason.

Am I the only one who was still more interested in playing in dirt at age 12, than trying to get girls?

with me it was torturing barbie dolls and trolling teachers

The *normal* age of consent in Ohio is 16, but under 13 is a separate and more serious offense for the reasons listed. The Ohio age of consent is 18 if the older partner is a teacher, administrator, or other person of authority.

Yep.

(A) No person shall solicit a person who is less than thirteen years of age to engage in sexual activity with the offender, whether or not the offender knows the age of such person.

(B) No person shall solicit another, not the spouse of the offender, to engage in sexual conduct with the offender, when the offender is eighteen years of age or older and four or more years older than the other person, and the other person is thirteen years of age or older but less than sixteen years of age, whether or not the offender knows the age of the other person.

Under 13 -- no go

13 - 16 -- okay as long as you're not more than 4 years older.

16+ -- hit that **** if you're not someone in authority.

18+ -- come one, come all.

    • Sorry I mean your back rest on your Herman, can you move the back say 2cm then lock it? Then realise 2cm isn’t enough and you want an extra 1cm then lock it into that position? Basically like in an older car seat, you turn the knob round until you get the back recline precisely where you want it, this is what I found the Herman wouldn’t do
    • WTF? I am not taking a video of myself to access a site or to create an account. What are they thinking? I don’t even have a webcam on my main desktop PC. The powers to be are really looking to normalize the taking of pics or submitting ID for everything. I afraid most people will end up just going along with it.
