Well, I hope any judge that finds this kid guilty can rest easy knowing that he's ruined a person's life even before it has begun. In most cases, kids having sex that young are going to regret it for a long time anyway, especially given that this kid has been publicly humiliated in the news:

The investigation showed the two students arranged to meet in the bathroom on a break from study hall, according to the prosecutor. The students were not gone for a unusual amount of time, he said.

... Ouch :p.

If this kid is convicted, he's going to be a convicted rapist and a registered sex offender. He's going to have to go through hell to be accepted anywhere, and getting a job is going to be so much harder for him.

If I was these kids parents, I'd be grounding both kids, and giving him an ungodly amount of chores for being so stupid. Putting them up before a jury is goddamn crazy. It's unfair on the kids, and a massive waste of taxpayer money and time. Stuff like this should be sorted with a massive dose of education and discipline, especially considering that it's down to the parents to teach kids about safe sex, and it's more a failing on their part than anyone else.

13 - 16 -- okay as long as you're not more than 4 years older.

That's a bit weird if you ask me, although I guess it's a personal thing. I couldn't have gone out with a 13 year old girl when I was 17, or a 16 year old when I was 20. It'd be just... creepy.

Not saying I like the idea of a 12 yo girl having sex, but come one, that boy it's not a sex offender nor he should have that stigma over his shoulders the rest of his life.

which is why I hate most zero tolerance sex offender laws. they generally make no sense. 1 they assume it's an adult and 2. they assume it's an adult abusing a child. so they bar the child or husband from children. (ie know a case of a guy raping his wife. he's banned from getting near schools. stupid!!!) he wasn't convicted of that.

Nonsense. It's being reported and over-hyped more and more!

Exactly. For every one time this gets reported in the news, another 100 cases just like this is never heard about. It's nothing new and nothing to get excited about.

agreed fml this world is going to ****... he shouldn't have to sign the register....

"Labeled as a sex offender"... really? He is 14 and was clearly not actually raping anyone. It was not forced and it was consensual, but wtf... sex at age 12? I can see Jearsy Shore is in someones future....

But in all seriousness, if this kid is labeled as a sex offender these laws need to be looked at a bit more closely.

Ohh, do I love this country...

Draw the line then. 8-year olds?

Jesus.

No. It's wrong and you should be charged with rape if you are older and you have sex with a 12 year older. But they also need a law that says if you are under X age, you can't get charged for rape, unless it is actually rape.

I'm sick of the lack of common sense in this country. It's pathetic.

Am I the only one who was still more interested in playing in dirt at age 12, than trying to get girls?

If you're female, maybe, but what females are interested in playing in the dirt?

If you're male, I would've thought you were queer if you weren't thinking of doing girls by the age of 14, which this boy is.

As far as this maximum punishment that can be served, the boy should not have to register as a sex offender, for sure.

My tattoo artists daughter who is 9 was asked by a boy to touch his "squishy" at school and she told her daughter that they are poisonous  But seriously this country is so prude sometimes... If the boy was 16 and she was 12 then I could see the case but they seem to just be 2 curious kids and who hasn't been curious? :glare:

It's not the fact of thinking about it, we all did by that age but doing it and even more with a 12 year old. Youth these days.

Call me old fashioned, but if I had a 12 year old daughter, and this was her.... Needless to say, I would NOT be happy right now. Consensual or not.

But surely if it was consensual, then the girl is as much to blame?

But would you be not happy with him or her?

She is just as much in the wrong as he was.

I've said it before and will say it again, kids and sex these days... no silly law saying "you're not allowed to have sex until you're X years old" is going to stop people. Of course it's in our nature to be curious. It's all about choice. If you choose to have sex at that age then I don't really care. My kids will more than likely choose differently.

I am only interested in how it came about (what circumstances) and how long they spent, what they did afterwards. I guess I'd find it interesting to see the thought process. Like many on Neowin, I find the whole subject fascinating about how different kids are these days.

This seems to be happening more and more... whatever happened to going into places you shouldn't be and getting in trouble with the cops? now it just seems sex sex and sex is the norm for adolescents. Today's generation is just all screwed up imo

This is true.

But then look at TV, magazines, internet. The media is full of people who are basically thrusting it down our throats. When I was a child, I watched adverts for toys. Now all I see are "have you fallen over because you didn't look where you were going? CLAIM HERE!" ads and with the likes of Rihanna flaunting herself around everywhere - are you seriously expecting anything different?

this is rather crazy. I knew of someone who was put on a sex offenders register for having sex with a girl who was 15 who told the guy she was 16. He dumped her months later so as revenge she went to the police and said she was underage.

And she claimed rape right?

I nearly blurted out to a girl once "oh, not another one" as I found that many girls claimed they were raped. Saying yes at the time (whether you wanted to have sex or wanted to please your boyfriend), then deciding later on that it was a mistake does not make it rape. You wanted to at the time. All that does is make actual rape victims seem trivial.

I agree - these kids need to get it pounded in early...

That is an awful choice of words!

The law is the law. There's age of consent laws for a reason.

These laws are in place, in theory, to protect minors.

What reason? To protect young kids? Yeah, like this law is working (N)

In theory maybe... but in practice?

Draw the line then. 8-year olds?

While I see your point, who says 16 is the right age? You? The Government? Everyone has a different opinion. In some countries 8 years old may be an appropriate age.

I wonder what the story would be if he suggested she raped him?

I bet you she wouldn't be put on the sex offenders list.

If the story was that he suggested that she raped him. Everyone in this thread would be cheering the guy on for getting it on with some younger skin. And they would say you can't rape the willing.. yadda yadda.. it's a proven fact, go look at the other threads in RWN/RWI.. recent ones where men claimed to have been raped by women, all the people in that thread, save a few level headed ones... were cheering the guy on.

And here I thought we were in the 21st century. And not medieval times.

It's time to call for abolish age of consent and incest law too :shiftyninja:

I tend to agree.

People mature, and have different levels of understanding, awareness, at various ages -- not always at 18.

If two people know what they are doing, and willingly agree, it shouldn't be a legal dispute.

Good. Then I guess if 12 year olds are good enough to have sex, I guess that means they're good enough to be on their own. I guess that means I can kick them out. No 12 year old daughter of mine is going to be bringing guys around.

Can't stand such takes as Spotify's: "Spotify's CEO recently pushed back against listeners who call AI music "slop," urging people to stop using the term and instead embrace the creative potential of AI music."

    • Microsoft Teams gets smarter at spotting sneaky meeting bots by Usama Jawad Microsoft Teams is set to receive a couple of new features soon, including a dedicated Recap app and a rather controversial location tracking functionality. The Redmond tech giant has also explained how it has made online communication and collaboration a lot more performant this year. Now, the company has detailed more secure bot admission mechanisms, as first reported by us in March 2026, and now available in Teams. As the use of AI has expanded across enterprise environments, Microsoft has begun allowing users to integrate bots into their meetings for various tasks, such as note-taking. While this has a tangible productivity benefit for users, Microsoft has highlighted how misconfiguration has allowed bots to join meetings that they shouldn't. This has created security and privacy risks, which Microsoft is now combating using a new Teams admin policy that allows organizers to control how external bots access meetings. Admins can leverage a policy called Manage external bots and their access to meetings. The default configuration is "When detected, require approval before joining", which places detected bots in a lobby before they are explicitly admitted into the meeting. The other option disables the experience. Microsoft has also requested admins to only allow organizers and co-organizers to manage access to a meeting, so that other people don't randomly allow bots into meetings. Teams will now be able to leverage infrastructure signals to intelligently detect and distinguish between bots and humans. Microsoft will soon also trial a registration experience for independent software vendors (ISVs) to build a system that registers a bot with Microsoft, so it is marked as a "known" bot. Teams will also categorize bots as trusted and suspected threats so that organizers can quickly identify which bots they want to allow into a meeting. Additional safeguards to block accidental admission of a bot into a meeting include: No one-click Admit option for identified bots Confirmation prompts when admitting participants that include bots Warnings when organizers choose Admit all, and bots are included Microsoft has begun rolling out this experience, and it will be retiring the current CAPTCHA verification implementation. In the future, the company plans to roll out new capabilities like allow-lists, organization-wide policies, admin reports, audit logs, and more granular controls.
    • With the current hardware prices Microsoft should lift the restriction. Then if you have the correct TPM then allow you to use X feature, if you don't have the correct TPM then don't but still actually let you run windows. 11. With a disclaimer during install that X features would be unavailable.
