Neowin bits & bytes: NeoGamr hits 100k views overnight

Recommended Posts

It has been less than a month since NeoGamr launched, and last night an Editorial that Jake did on Pok?mon: Crystal for the GBA development passed 100k unique views after being submitted to Reddit.

So this is just a small note to say thanks to all of our readers for their continued support of the site, it's never easy launching a new site and Neowin was no exception to this rule back in 2000, so I couldn't wish for a better result so early on.

Give yourselves a pat on the back, and well done to Jake and all the others for sticking it out with the new site, which on average, despite the high quality of the articles doesn't get anywhere near the hits Neowin does.

This year, we've managed to get over 100k unique views for a single article at least once every month, so that is also awesome.

There were a total of 11k online when I went to bed last night, and that had been like that for hours. That number is a total for both sites though, there wasn't an extreme amount of people on the forums yesterday but overall it's good either way.

Nice job. Articles like the Pok?mon one will help to set Neogamr apart from other gaming sites. Exposure via reddit et al. helps to make it a known name.

How happy are you in general with the number of hits Neogamr gets thus far, Neobond?

Considering Neowins stance on piracy on the forums and in comments on news Articles I am confused why you would allow an article that is basically someone using assets and logos from Nintendo without authorisation and then in the end of the article you give instructions to people on how to download the game.

I can tell you right now that if those instructions were posted by a user on this forum the post would be removed. I don't mind the rules you have Neowin just how about a little consistency in enforcing them? I don't see why a newsposter gets special treatment.

Congratulations on the 100K anyway.

Well the 100k example is a good start and one or two others have already gone over the minimum 4k that we require for second stage payment thanks mainly to N4G. So I'm not complaining :p

Nice.

Though I wish you would have just called it neogamer instead of trying to be web2.0 hip and copy Flickr and the like.

I wanted NeoGamer too, but it has already been taken, including the Twitter account, at least this way, we have a unique identifier with Facebook, Twitter etc, (and .com).

Congratulations on the 100K anyway.

Jake created all the images (and music) himself along with others, and he isn't making any money off it.

It clearly has the Pokemon logo on the opening screen of the rom which is a Nintendo trademark. And he is using the Pokemon scripting language to make the game, created by Nintendo.

???

Even he admits the legality issues here in the article:

Well, due to the risk of possibly breaking some form of infringement under the Pok?mon brand name, I can?t directly link to the ROM - even though I have and continue to do on my blog, it is against Neowin?s terms and conditions. However, Google and YouTube is your friend, so just type in ?Pok?mon: Liquid Crystal beta 3.1? and I?m sure you?ll get the pre-patched ROM by some means.

I think you're missing my point, my point is if you're going to have an Anti-Piracy stance on your site in its rules then actually follow through with it. It's the inconsistency I'm pointing out.

Can't say I've ever used a leaked windows or messenger build posted on Neowin or even seen them posted before but if you wan't to admit to that then ok? lol I don't see what you're meaning by admitting that.

Congrats on the views, guys. I'm glad to say that I probably counted for one of those unique views. It would have been more, but I can't access the site from the workplace, which is basically the only time I'm online (weekends are an exception).

Rules just don't apply to everyone (this may be unfair, but that's the case). We can take responsibility for what our news posters post on the site, we cannot for every user that visits Neowin. Therefor we allow our staff a little more freedom when posting news items.

    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
