Neowin PSA: There will be some (short) downtime on Monday August 25

We're upgrading our servers, and while this mostly already completed, the database server must be taken offline to finalize it, giving the hamsters a little break.

neowin downtime

It had to happen sooner or later, yes it's that time where we are upgrading the operating system of our servers. This weekend we already upgraded the host machines for our front-end servers, with no impact to visitors.

However we also need to upgrade the server where our database VM lives, and for that it must be taken offline. We expect it to take no longer than one hour, but you know what they say: even the most well thought out plans and process can result in a spanner being thrown into the works.

The planned downtime:

  • Estimated time to begin: 10:00 BST (05:00 ET / 02:00 PT)
  • Estimated time to return: 11:00 BST (06:00 ET / 03:00 PT)

If all goes to plan, then we'll only have to schedule a short downtime for our database server vm itself, which also must be taken offline in order to upgrade.

We certainly appreciate your understanding with this. As you may know Neowin owns its own servers and we host them in the UK. Running a site like this is expensive so we do always appreciate your support.

So as not to rely solely on advertising, which many of our readers block there are other means in which you could (optionally) show your support. It all helps toward paying staff reporters, servers and hosting costs.
