I'm also hoping the core Metro apps receive a number of additional features and some polish before RTM. Apps like Mail, Calendar and Photos need to be solid performers and include at least the same features that exist in their equivalents in the Live Essentials suite.

I was expecting to this this in the RC, but that didn't happen. Mail and Calendar are decent, Music and video should honestly be combined into one, and need to match the functionality of Zune, and Photos is utterly hopeless, with ZERO functionality after two releases.

The two ads for Zune Pass and Xbox Live in the two tiles on the bottom row below:

Sure they're ads but at least those 2 makes sense, Zune pass, well, soon to be Xbox Music and then the Xbox live ad itself are both the "new" media brand so they'll be advertised I'm sure. Besides I think the Music and Video apps will change to be Xbox Music and Xbox Video by RTM time. Once you connect them to a online service like that then you'll see some level of advertisement in them.

I think as long as the ads are for something relevant then it's ok imo. Ads for new music albums out, or a new movie that's coming soon, etc.

If you're spending so much time digging around in the Start Menu that you'll miss more than five seconds of your favorite YouTube video, you're probably not using it (or the Start Screen) to its full potential, and I suppose that is entirely forgivable - Microsoft really hasn't gone the extra mile to teach people how to use all of the features of Search.

Question is: if you are bringing the start menu just to use search, why can't you just search out of the start menu? After all you are not really using the start menu at all, just bringing it up so it recognizes your keyboard input.

I happen to think ads for new content on a content consumption application/service make perfect sense. I don't go digging around the web to find out whats coming down the pike for everything, I happen to like seeing an ad on my Xbox 360 dashboard telling me a new arcade game is out that I probably missed or forgot the release date for. Lots of people are the same, they don't crawl the web to find out everything that's on the way or what's new. If a video app that's tied to a video service shows me ads (coming soon trailers) for movies I'd like that.

Now if it's ads for something out of context to the app/service then I agree.

The images of artists are ads (in a way) and I agree that they're appropriate. A link to sign up for a Zune Pass (or whatever it will now be called) is also probably OK so long as it only appears once or twice and can be easily removed. However, I fail to see what an add for Xbox live has to do with Music or Video. I also suspect that we'll see more ads over time much like the ads that appear on the Xbox Dashboard. I'm really not interested in that, especially if they're going to charge me full price for their operating system.

The Metro News app has now decided to stop working on my installation, tried de-installing and re-installing, just keep getting took back to the start screen, anyone any ideas?

Also, has anyone had any issues using CCleaner on Windows 8?

Strangely, clicking on an address in the People app takes me to maps on the Bing website rather than to the Maps app.

Also, I don't really like the way some of the article links in the News app take you to websites rather than reformatting and displaying the article in the app.

It strikes me as odd how, professed, geeks, nerds, techies, and the like can't use Windows 8. Or, it simply kills them to make one extra subtle finger movement clicking to shut down their computers, or drag the mouse to a corner, or tap the Windows key.

And what strikes me as even more odd is that you so called experts can't wrap your heads around the fact that we JUST DON'T LIKE IT. I know how to use it, and I still don't like it.

And you want to know what irks me? No, well your going to hear it.

Firstly, people who defend Windows 8 to the hilt, and to you people - PLEASE ACCEPT THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DON'T AND WON'T LIKE IT.

Secondly, people who repeatedly post that they don't like Windows 8 and won't be buying it, and to you people - THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT LIKE AND LOVE IT.

To both camps, please show some respect to each other and stop constantly quoting each other and stating for the billionth time that you either hate or love or whatever you think about Windows 8

Let's try and have a decent discussion about Windows 8 without all that crap all the time.

Somebody may have already mentioned it, but this thread has already become enormous and I don't feel like sifting through it. I just thought I'd mention that I am now able to turn hardware acceleration back on in Firefox without the UI getting all fugly, so yay for that. I really hadn't noticed any difference with it off, but since the issue plagued me for some time before that solution was suggested with the CP you'd think I would have checked that first thing.

services.msc scrolling seem 200% to 400% smoother / faster / more optimized than in Windows 7

IE10 seems way faster than Firefox to me (and way faster than IE9)

anyone having problem activating now? getting error code 0x80072f8f using TK8TP-9JN6P-7X7WW-RFFTV-B7QPF

Yeah, I can't activate right now either. Just installed on another machine and it won't activate. Which means I can't enable Windows Media Center until it let's me...

That was my problem at first. But it still won't activate even after I set the time correctly.

im at work right now so cant really test anything out but i take it this is on a fresh install of win 8?

****! I came here to report this exact same problem! My wife's laptop activated just fine. I just upgraded (yes upgrade! :D) my own desktop rig and activation is screwed up. Date & time is not a problem. :/

      Dude, it's a .reg away from a permanent modification. If you're a power user, look it up and keep the .reg and stop being a crybaby expecting MS to include customization for everything on a generalist OS. The default is what's the best UX for the majority of the userbase, non techie people.

      Studio MDHR reveals Cuphead sequel and an 8-bit platformer spin-off by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Studio MDHR has been rather silent about its next major gaming project since the release of Cuphead back in 2017. However, that ended today during the Summer Game Fest presentation, with the studio revealing not one but two project announcements. First, the studio confirmed that it is currently in the middle of developing a brand-new Cuphead game, bringing back the iconic characters for another adventure. Just like the last game, this is slated to be a fully hand-animated endeavor. This also means there isn't a release date attached to it yet. “Craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do here at Studio MDHR,” says co-founder Chad Moldenhauer. “When it came time to peel back the curtain and share a little bit about what we’ve been up to, we couldn’t imagine a more fun way to do so than with today’s Special Bulletin.       Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.
