What's so bad about OS X 10.8? Oh no, a few new apps that you can completely ignore. Windows 8 is so incredibly stupid, there aren't even words to describe the stupidity. Facepalm.

Seriously, even my mother who knows nothing about computers was able to use Windows 8 just fine after telling her the small differences in the start menu.

I only wish that when I did a search on the Start screen I could choose for which file types to find, instead of it always defaulting to Apps.

Yes the segmented start screen is a little annoying. To go straight to file search use Win+F

If you want to use the explorer interface you can do Win+E then F3. The ribbon has all sorts of search options.

I had to post this here as well...

You know what guys?

I'm in love with Windows 8. I completely changed my opinion since yesterday. Why? Because the OS is so polished that I can't ignore that.

Anyway... There are some annoyances like the lack of a button for the start screen and the Charm Bar... I hate the Charm Bar showing up all the time.

Call me bipolar. :p

Sounds like you haven't used either 7 or 8 at all.

I've used every version of Windows since 98. (Except 2000, I went with ME). And it took me 30 minutes tops to adapt to Windows 8, 20 minutes of that was pinning my favourite programs to my start screen and organising them to my liking. Once that was over I think it's better than Windows 7, Aside from the startscreen there isnt much difference to Windows 7. They made the start menu fullscreen, with the ability to show more apps and more things that the old Start Menu couldnt pin. Organize them into categories. I would hate having to go back to 7 now, I gave the startscreen a little patience and now I love it. I don't use any metro apps, my start screen is just Desktop apps.

I didn't like Lion when it first launched because it was so buggy on my Mac (2009 Unibody MacBook Pro 17") the interface was very sluggish anything that had moving transitions like activating mission control was laggy/choppy. I had lots of issues with gestures not registering and apps that played video would constantly freeze. Because of these things I downgraded back to Snow Leopard where everything worked brilliantly.

I gave Lion a few months to mature and then I installed it again and now all the bugs I had are resolved. I do enjoy some of the new features such as the spell checking as you type. I've been using the iMessage Beta from Mountain Lion since it released and I really like it. I'm very much looking forward to Mountain Lion with its Notification Centre and hopefully it will get Siri integration. Everything in it just seems like a natural progression of the operating system and it looks to be a great release.

On my desktop I've always used Windows. All my desktops have been built by myself and I always use the best components money can buy with little expense spared. I build very large water cooled desktops geared for gaming and the best OS to use for something like that has always been Windows which caters to very high end systems with a plethora of high end software and games to go with it. But with Windows 8 I see Microsoft is turning on its heel and instead of making an operating system designed for everything it is now only designed for low specced tablets. If you take Metro away from Windows 8 you basically have Windows 7 with some tweaks and since Metro just isn't designed for a desktop computer I have no reason to upgrade.

I'll probably stick with Windows 7 on my desktop and look in to running OS X on it in a dual boot configuration. Then in 3-4 years time if Microsoft is still trying to chase the iPad with Windows 9 I'll go full Mac and buy a Mac Pro or an iMac.

This whole thing about touch computers ignores entirely the market of people who like large screens. my iMac has a 21.5" screen and my Windows desktop has a 28" screen, both of which so I can keep my vision sit about 2 arm lengths away from my keyboard, I will never be able to use a touch related interface on these big screens that I love so much for watching video, gaming, and actually get this for an impressive feature, HAVING MORE THAN TWO APPS ON THE SCREEN AT THE SAME TIME.

I may upgrade to OS X 10.8 when the new iMacs come out, (I fancy a 27" one and I might as well wait now for the new ones), but unless drastic changes to accomodate people who use their computer for real tasks are implemented before the release, I'll be leaving my big Desktop in Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for seven more games as discounts continue by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe There's a brand-new update rolling out to Nvidia's GeForce NOW streaming service, and like every week, that means more games have received support on the platform. This week's drop has additions like Aphelion and Pro Cycling Manager 26 attached to it. Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active too. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Moreover, Nvidia reiterated that support for GOG single sign-in and game library is incoming this summer, joining stores like Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and Xbox. "Connect supported game store accounts and stream titles with GeForce RTX power. Games that include cloud-save functionality help keep progress intact across devices," added the company. "Start a game on one screen, pick up where playtime left off on another, and spend less time managing installs and storage space." Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Embers of the Uncrowned Demo (New release on Steam, available 13) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 15) Aphelion (Steam) Citizen Sleeper (Epic Game Store, Free from June 18-25) Megastore Simulator (Steam) OPERATOR (Steam) Super Meat Boy 3D (Xbox, available on Game Pass) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month, with extra time being purchasable in chunks.
