2012 Nintendo E3 Press Conference

Is there a live video stream anywhere? I'm just going over the live blogs, but they're kicking ass so far.

Aside from the link above, pretty much any decent video game centric website out there will have a stream ya know...

Thanks!

None of the websites with live blogs I saw provided the link in their posts.

3 Freaking mario games.. are you kidding me... man.. im gonna go broke with nintendo this year

Sony and Microsoft recycle same ****, they're awful and produce nothing new.

Nintendo recycles same **** and Miyamoto is a demigod and Nintendo have found the cure for cancer.

Jesus christ.

Oh dear.

So the Wii U is just a Wii with a tablet you can hold up to your TV to "scan" things and to have touchscreen buttons?

All the games theyve shown are just regular games with tablet controls bolted on.

E3 this year has been crap.

Not sure I follow. It's a completely new device, not just a Wii with a tablet, although it also has Wiimotes.

Seems fairly cool so far to me, even if the new controller isn't a massive deal.

I know its a new device I was just being facetious.

Nothing they have shown couldn't have been done on 360 or PS3, they are justifying the tablet by saying "well you can use it as a second screen, or as inventory, or as a map".

Nothing there makes me want a Wii U, i dont want a second screen to take my focus away from the game im playing on the big screen, i dont want inventory, i dont want touchscreen buttons, i dont want to hold it up in front of my TV to "scan" things.

I think Nintendo are in real trouble.

God, People whine when nintendo's system can't offer them modern games like on the other platforms... And they still continue to bitch when they now can.

Also, i bet the guy in this quote here would do a 180 on his response and say "omg it's soooooooo awesome!1!" if it was sony who did what nintendo is doing right now.

I think Nintendo are in real trouble.

And some people like fun :p

On a different note - these conferences drag on a bit... I remember one of hte first Wii E3's, where they showed great continuous show reels of games to start off the show, with a lot of great games. This show, not so much. And Nintendo are only making Wii games for WiiU? Blergh, what is it with everyone making their E3 conferences worse and worse. (Although, this still beats MS & Sony)

I didn't whine about Wii not being able to give you HD graphics so try again.

It's nice that you know me so well, I don't like Kinect, I don't like Move, I don't like Wiimotes, even if god appeared before me himself and said that the Wii U tablet was the best thing in the world I would tell him to shove it. I already said in the Sony thread that their conference was dissappointing, I dont see how owning a PS3 makes me suddenly a Sony fanboy?

Just because I don't pray at the altar of Miyamoto doesn't mean my opinions are invalid.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, just skimming responses since I'm short on time.

I'm not sure I really want a Wii U yet, but it does look neat. It'll be a nice stop gap console. It'll take some time for developers to get used to the new technology before we start seeing really cool ways to use it, I imagine.

To be honest I prefer more Mario games than new IPs

I prefer Mario games... aslong as they're not "New Super Mario Bros." games, which Nintendo just seem to churn out. They all look the same, they all play the same, and they're nt exactly fun. A new Galaxy style game though? Hell yes.

ALso, the Nintendo Land trailer is pointless. There was no actual gameplay of the games shown. Blergh. Really wanted to see what Retro was upto.

You know what you're getting with Nintendo and for some people that's good, and that's fine. I always worry about their 3rd party offerings, they can't ever seem to crack that code, but for sure making everything over complicated for 3rd party devs doesn't help. Whether the industry likes it or not the devs side with the 360 first, then the PS3, and it will most likely follow that trend next-gen as the PS4/Next Xbox will be more powerful hardware than the WiiU.

Nintendo are one company that can live in their own little bubble, and do absolutely fine doing so. Really well in fact.

The controller however does not excite me, things that it shows always end up being cool for 1-15 days, then I find myself going back to what has worked for 20+ years. I do not find it in anyway helpful or better to access an inventory from a tablet based interface over pushing a button on a controller. Just in the same was as a voice command or "super duper accurate wand" doesn't make me feel more comfortable playing an FPS. You could argue it's old habits needing changed, or you can just argue if it works, don't try and fix it (on a personal level, no point in forcing yourself to change how you play). Motion controls have taught me one hell of a lesson this generation

Damn, when did they start their conference? I just hopped on to check it out and he is saying thank you and showing some theme park called Nintendoland? Any place replaying it by any chance?

Exactly the opposite for me :D I hate 3d mario games (the only 2 I liked were Mario 64 and the 3ds one). The "New Super Mario Bros" and Paper Mario are pretty much at the top of my favorite Mario games, I'll be getting all 3 for sure

I feel the same way. Less Galaxy type games, more sidescroller Mario!

That bubbles going to pop, they nearly went under with Gamecube, they struck it lucky with the Wii and this just seems more of the same with a tablet controller just for the sake of being different. Nothing they showed was groundbreaking in the way you control a game, its all just heres a map, heres your inventory, oh look you can put it in front of your TV and get a different view.

As for the Playstation Home, I mean Nintendo Land......

Simply awful.

I only caught a little bit, but am I right in saying no real specs were offered up?

Internet is not responding that great, mainly because of no real 3rd party support, very safe 1st party and a lack of showing the device to be anything really fresh or different from Nintendo.

Where the heck is the serious/decent Zelda game? The Metroid or Mario Galaxys? Only thing I was a bit "ooh" on was Zombi U thing, tho I can see the actual game being mince much like how Red Steel or whatever it was for the Wii turned out.

Cant see how or why other than sheer luxury I`d want a Wii U and im a bit sad about that tbh. Also what about virtual consoles? What about online stores and features? What about hardware specs? What about 1st party hardcore games?

I thought the conference showed promise with 3rd party offerings this time around with Arkham City Armored Edition, Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Zombiu and more that they showed. I wouldn't expect Nintendo to showcase those kinds of games when they have been so family conscious before. Hopefully it means they are going to try harder garnering more 3rd party support this time around.

Otherwise conference started strong, and ended fairly weak. Was hoping for a bombshell at the end, but oh well.

I'm still not really sure what Nintendoland is supposed to be?

I think it should replay on their site after it's over since it's the same streaming service they used for their pre-E3 recorded event.

Disappointed in no new Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime with HD graphics would be a godsend.

    • Rockstar confirms Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders begin next week, unveils cover art by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The release date of Grand Theft Auto VI has moved quite a lot since its original announcement in 2023, but it finally looks like the game has found its final launch slot. Rockstar today had a new video upload on its YouTube channel, and while it wasn't a new trailer for the game, the company revealed two things. This was the pre-order kickoff date for Grand Theft Auto VI as well as the game's official cover art. The company revealed that June 25 is when fans of the series will be able to pre-order their copy of Grand Theft Auto VI. Pre-orders will be available both digitally and in retail stores. The newly unveiled cover art shows off the two new protagonists, as well as a few more characters that are probably vital to the campaign storyline. Shots of vehicles players can use like a light helicopter, motorcycle, sports car, and speed boat are also seen here, alongside a shot of a crocodile. "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," says Rockstar describing the campaign's protagonist duo. "But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive." Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not been confirmed yet, though it's expected by many to land after the console release. When asked about this, the Take-Two CEO says it considers the core audience for the Grand Theft Auto franchise to be on consoles.
