The newest round of rumors say that older phones will get support for the new framework that will be used in WP8, if you believe the other rumors then you should believe this one as well. If so then apps will work in the end.

Pretty much. None of the Nokia ads for WP7 so far have really shown the phone, except for a 5 second slot at the end. The iPhone adverts *work* because they actually show why you'd want one, instead of a bunch of random people dancing around

They have different ads for different markets, you're not going to see this type of ad in the US or EU. Regardless, so far it seems the Lumia 900 is still doing well sales wise even though we don't have any official numbers out yet. We'll know for sure when Q2 is done but the last estimate I read was that they'll sell 4 million of them. Only time will tell.

We still don't know which parts of WP8 will come to 7.8. Right now we know about the UI for sure, other "software" stuff should come as well. It's the hardware specific WP8 features that we don't get for sure. Like 720p and multi-core support.

We'll be getting more details as the day advances, this is going to go on all day today so we should get more info.

Which is expected really since we're going from CE to NT. BUT 7.5 apps run on 8, thus it's all up to developers and if they feel like they should just cut out the current user base and update or not.

I could see a nice overlap for some time, and this would be a reasonable compromise actually. A develper could make a basic version of his app target 7.x while the Pro version can take advantage of WP8 and so on. Or if their app doesn't need specific v8 features they could just stick with the 7.x model for now. Really the only "apps" that need to go with 8 and can't be done on 7.x are future games and a limited set of bigger business type apps I'd say.

Probably helps if you could read chinese, it emphasizes windows phone's social aspect, keeping you connected. Its targeted at a certain market, and in my opinion, does fine. certainly not the greatest ad. The main dancer represents you, the user, you can figure out the rest.

Edit:Just googled around. It may very well be part of an ongoing ad campagin. The guy in the reflection at the end is a taiwanese singer, david tao, and he, from what I can gather from the quick search, is a Nokia Spokesperson. The main dancer is actaully a singer too...

I think that always been the problem with Microsoft's marketing department (I know Lumnia is by Nokia, but these ads are always made along with MS). They have a very condescending view about youth. For them the young public are always at party, interested in the same things, a walking "have fun-party hard-be cool-socialize" cliche out of the 90's. That's why the Kin failed.

Now?s not the time to buy a phone. WP8 isn?t out, next iPhone isn?t coming till October. Guess you could get an Android if you were in that market now, but Google IO is next week, so I expect they?ll be in the same position soon.

I?m in a similar position, waiting for the next iPhone and my current phone is getting rather long in the tooth.

In a time where teenagers and young adults have more diverse taste in music, entertaining, literature, style, culture and a very long etc MS still treats them as the same.

My LG Optimus 7 will be 2 years when new WP8 hardware hits, I'll get WP 7.8 on it, I hope, and then pass it on to my sister if she wants it then get a new WP8 device. Only question is which one, though it probably will be a big screen Nokia device if the price is right.

Oh and btw, I don't expect any more core changes so unlike this time I think WP8 devices WILL get WP9. I don't think they'll do any low level changes and use that as a reason not to let us upgrade.

My impression: A flashy advertisement to disgue a mediocre product... Not to say that it is, that's just the impression that ad gave me based on the fact it was more of a dancing contest rather than showing off the phone and its features.

Though a company like Nokia does have to resort to such tactics when battling titans such as Samsung and Apple, whom of which are both gianormous in that region.

OK, there are several other tv commercial ads I found that target the mainland and perhaps taiwanese markets, which seen in conjuction with this, builds a better picture of the phone, but still very superficial.

Hong Kong has their own seperate set of tv ads.

I personally like the first one(visually) but think it doesn't convey any message about the product except it is for young hipsters? whereas second is pure WTF!
