Leaving iPhone... moving to Galaxy S III

neither do I, I use it mostly for following a few youtubers and a couple other people, but I liked a few of Tweetbot's features and way of doing things

Sure, there may be apps on one platform that follow one users's preferences more than another but in general terms if you can do it with iOS you can usually do it on Android.

More reasons iOS is better than Android:

http://igadgetlife.c...-beats-android/

You said there are this iOS can do that Android cannot. You have not provided any info really that proves this...at least not current info. And this link is just a matter of opinion on why he things iOS is better and again, does not show what iOS can do over Android.

The only reasons why I haven't moved to Android is because of the apps (they are far more beautiful/sexier and intuitive compared to Android equivalent ones).. and iOS also has "free app for a day" thing where developers can set the price to $0 temporarily for promotions. Android and Windows Phone developers can't do this in their app stores

But yeah, I'm getting bored seeing my Home screen as an app launcher.. hope iPhone 5 or whatever they call it will come to the rescue somewhat, but it'll still be the same iOS :(

iTunes media store... meh. Plenty of DRM free stores that work nicely with Android devices. To me, not using iTunes is more of a selling point than having to use it.

Airplay... DLNA.

Find my iPhone... Something similar in HTC Sense

Better support... subjective opinion at best

Better battery life... subjective depending on usage scenarios at best. Give iOS the same advanced multitasking capabilities (and I mean full multitasking not the half assed implementation iOS currently has) and it would chew battery too.

iTunes... as above, iTunes is a pile of crap especially on Windows. The fact that you don't need proprietary crapware to sync Android devices is a big plus for me.

No crapware... absolute rubbish, there are plenty of useless apps on iOS, and statistical data suggests that iOS apps crash just as much as Android apps do.

Better apps... even more rubbish, I've never found an app on iOS that I haven't seen an equivalent for on Android.

Well designed... I disagree with that statement, a row of icons on a bland background isn't good design, it's extremely boring.

Consistency? lol, seriously? I know what I'm getting with an Android phone as well because I'm not an idiot. I do my research.

I was going to post something similar...but figured, why comment that detailed on an article written over a year ago. Lots have changed since then.

Amazon App store has free daily apps and has since its release. And as far as the beautiful/sexy apps...well, I rather an app be function and stable before anything else. But thats just me. :)

I've seen app developers on Android change the prices of their apps before.

Fix it? - NO. Again, there is nothing wrong with it.

Jailbreak - Yes, to be able to disable the animations.

You are an obvious Android fanboy and you are one of those who refuses to accept that the iPhone and iOS is a great system. Android has potential, yes, but it has a long way to go before it can take over iOS.

no, sorry to disappoint you, but i was on blackberry for years until just recently when i had to renew to keep unlimited data... i had three friends who love their iphone try to show me why i shouldn't get the new galaxy s3, and they couldn't...

nothing on the iphone was any better than what i see on android, in fact, when i see all of the "new" stuff that the new ios is going to get, it's already on android!

plus, iphones are so little! if i wanted a little screen like that, i'd stay on blackberry! (plus, for some reason, whenever i hold a 4 or 4s iphone, it feels like a slice of spam shape... maybe it's just me)

anyways, no fanboy here, i'm brand new to android, and it's very nice

a giant device with a huge screen that drains battery super fast in comparison to all your iphones. It does have an LTE network with a lot more features (USB-OTG, HDMI adapters, SD card, faster reboots/startups, USB microB charging, eye following screen time on.. I suggest CM9 or CM10. Make sure to get beta.swype.com and titanium backup. Android is the only mobileOS I enjoy. for tablets the iOS environment is better.

Reviews say battery life is actually very good.

15h 48m on battery.

2h 30m screen on.

33% remaining.

Combination of wifi and network throughout the day. Sent lots of texts and emails, few phone calls.

Really good compared to my other phones.

I've got a GS3 as a business phone, use it HEAVILY all through the day and even at this time of night (1am here in blighty) my phone is still on 40%, I've probably used it for a couple hours of calls through the day, two dozen work emails, personal emails, bit of facebook here and there and a tad of gaming (GTAIII which I bought on sale for 70p or something crazy cheap!) and not only that I'm using it for a health monitoring device so it's running a pedometer that's using GPS constantly.

I'm pretty sure that as this thread is quite old now the OP already has his phone, without reading back through 8 pages or so, does anyone know how he's faring with the phone?

I'm loving the phone. It's awesome. My only complaint is actually what everyone says is amazing... I barely get an entire day out of the battery. Usually by 6PM its at 15% or less. Usually an hour spent with voice calls and with minimal browser/facebook usage/about 100 texts a day.

Now that is something I do find interesting, especially as you can see from my post before I get more than satisfactory battery life. Can I ask what software version you're on? (on home screen, menu, settings, about device: baseband version). The two most recent updates both dealt with battery life, and there is a patch in the works for a mis-reported cell-standby battery bug which should be out in the next fortnight.

I am very happy you're enjoying the phone though after the switch, I know plenty of people who have stoically stuck by their iDevice for various reasons so I know it's hard to make that switch.

So... I never thought I would do it. I've always been a huge iDevice and Apple advocate... but on Monday, after a few days of careful decision and playing around with iOS 6, I realized that the iPhone just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I've owned Android devices in the past, but I've had nothing but bad experiences. My HTC Incredible's screen stopped working on me after 3 days of use, and my Droid X, even with 2.3, was unbearably slow, almost unusable.

To those of you who have the GS3 already, what should I expect? I've already read tons of reviews, and have seen video reviews, etc., but none of them give me an accurate version real world usage.

Also, what Applications should I get? I don't really know what's available for Android 4.0. Will my Android 2.3 apps from my Droid X work (especially Logmein Ignition, since I paid for that)?

Any advice you guys can provide would be appreciated.

Mike

You'll be back.

I'm a iPhone 4 user and the only applications I have are Twitter, Facebook, and the banking application which my bank provides with everything else either done through the we browser or I'm happy with the stock applications that come with the operating system. I'm waiting to see what happens with iPhone 5 and Windows Phone 8 but so far I've been disappointed by what has been leaked regarding the iPhone 5 and I'm sceptical as to whether we'll see a Windows Phone 8 Connector for OS X which pretty much leaves me with Samsung Galaxy S3 has the only viable alternative to iPhone at this moment. I'm still looking at the Samsung Galaxy S3 every time I go past the store and have a brief play around with it but my experience so far has been pretty positive which leads me to probably lean to getting one in the future.

An autonomous AI system built by researchers at Amazon's A-EVO-Lab completed a full post-training run on a 30 billion parameter NVIDIA Nemotron model — with no human in the loop, across four rounds running over multiple weeks — and then did something its designers had not planned for: it detected that its own internal evaluation metric had become misleading and redesigned the search strategy it was using to improve itself. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319123/20260626/nvidia-ai-trained-itself-30b-model-corrected-its-own-broken-metric-mid-run.htm

    • If Ford would stop hiring SUITS to run the company, and put CAR GUYS back in charge perhaps they could do better. Heck, the only CAR they produce today is the Mustang. Hey Ford! Not everyone needs/wants an overpriced SUV or pickup truck that is so tall you have to have a step ladder to get in and out of it.
    • Amazing how some will just jump all over something. Probably the same people that thought Musk was a "tech god" before he saddled up with "bad orange man". Before, they worshiped at his feet, including a lot of so called hollywood types. Now, because he fell off the plantation truck, they toss him under the bus.
