I never said it was 'normal', the norm is heterosexuality and homosexuality is outside of that norm. The problem is the connotation that is attached to words used to describe gays, while the usage might be entirely innocent the connotation makes it feel like they are less than, like they are second class citizens just because they like the same sex.

Abomination is a disgusting word to use to describe a group of people:

a?bom?i?na?tion

[uh-bom-uh-ney-shuhn]

1. anything abominable; anything greatly disliked or abhorred.

2. intense aversion or loathing; detestation: He regarded lying with abomination.

3. a vile, shameful, or detestable action, condition, habit, etc.: Spitting in public is an abomination.

Again, you use the word 'they' a lot, 'they' are a group of people, not spokespeople for every gay person. I agree they have MOST rights but not all rights and I never said that sexual orientation oppression was even the slightest bit like racial oppression, but oppression is oppression. While they have most rights they also cant adopt, get sacked from jobs for being gay, they get spat on, they get assaulted even murdered just because of their sexuality, again I'm not trying to say that it's anything as bad as racial oppression but gays have it a lot worse than you realise.

Words are words...you can interpret it anyway you'd like honestly. I noticed you went on the defense because i said they and lopped them all in the same group but it's not any different than you calling every conservative person in this country - vile, stupid, uneducated, and backwards for voting Republican. I can guarantee you there are plenty out there who don't agree 100% of every issue, some might be fiscal conservative /socially moderate or whatever.. There use to be a time when we were more respectful of other peoples opinions - now it seems like people are fighting because their opinions are different.

Another thing - many bring up the bible reference from the old testament in the Hebrew Bible - i suggest looking at this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bible_and_homosexuality

It helps shed some light on the issue.

I couldn't hear everything that was said in the video, but the only things I can see in that video that are wrong is what they wrote in chalk on the floor and that face and noise the guy pulled between 0:25 and 0:27. All I could hear them say in the video was that the Bible is immoral, the preacher is a hypocrite, and that they hate God. Did they say anything that could be deemed wrong or abuse?

The preacher is preaching unjust intolerance and attempting to convince people that oppression is okay, so these people informed the preacher that he's being hypocritical (which is likely, due to what else the Old Testament states, but they shouldn't have stated that with certainty unless they know something we don't), that his book is immoral, and that they hate the god that he believes would like to see people oppressed.

Obviously, if the preacher is allowed to preach terrible things, these people should be allowed to preach the opposite to him. Of course, they should do so without attacking him or abusing him, though. I certainly don't agree with what they wrote in chalk. But as I say, I can't understand what they're saying in some of the video, so if they were abusing him by what they said, please could someone inform me of what they said that was abuse or wrong?

Well if you want to get down to the science part of it what makes homosexuality in nature normal? [. . .]

We risk this thread becoming off-topic, by discussing same-sex attraction in general, but it's as simple as the following: same-sex attraction (what you refer to as 'homosexuality') is natural because attraction is a natural feeling which people cannot consciously change. It's silly when people bring up gay sex in the debate as to whether "homosexuality" is natural or not because attraction is different to sex, and as it's the attraction people feel that leads them to want to have sex, everyone in this debate should be looking at whether the attraction is natural or not (which, as I explain, it is).

I am fully convinced that man, as a whole, is an incredibly flawed and self-centered bag of stupid.

I seriously doubt most of the people protesting have had folks get in their face and scream at them, like they do to others. It is shameful that they, in a quest for acceptance instead turn to anger, hate, and belittlement like they say they receive. When you cannot rise above what you claim to fight, you have already failed.

Shameful no matter what the cause.

while all dem fancy words means well sometimes the only way to fight fire is wid AN EXPLOSIIIAANNN (yes it is all purposely mis-spelt )

but seriously I am with the gays they have been bashed enough (lol unintentional pun) .... for years they have been repressed and treated like crap why should they not be angry? sometimes it is hard to keep your head above water when people are pushing you down.

Try burning the bible in front of any religious preachers talking about homosexual immorality or some stupid thing like that.

That should make such a person go away.

How childish....maybe you should just fall down and kick and scream until you get your way? Burning a copy of the Bible wouldn't draw the same ire as it does with other religions.

I'm totally playing devil's advocate here....but you're being very hypocritical. The same is thought about religious people.

That being said, I'm gay. I strongly believe that we should voice our concerns when our rights are being trampled on and I have on several occasions verbally attacked many of the bigots on this site. But to be completely fair (and believe me this isn't easy to admit given my thoughts on a lot of current issues regarding gays and marriage), what you're saying can easily be applied to how the religious folk are treated.

Lol I feel like a pod person right now...

The difference, of course, being gay people don't live by a dogma which compels them to behave in a certain way. Religion, from my perspective, seems to be entirely setup to encourage a hivemind mentality. The opposition to gay marriage, and indeed, homosexual in general is overwhelmingly fueled by religious dogma or scriptual teachings.

If you criticse religion, you aren't necessarily criticising all the religious folk. If you criticise religious people with hateful and bigoted views, you're not criticsing the ones without those views.

So, nothing to say about the men making fun of this preacher? It exists on BOTH sides.

I think that making fun of someone's views is fine, but hurling insults and abusing them isn't. After all, if someone doesn't wish their beliefs to be ridiculed, they shouldn't hold ridiculous beliefs :) This is especially the case when someone's ridiculous beliefs advocate oppression or unjust discrimination.

How childish....maybe you should just fall down and kick and scream until you get your way? Burning a copy of the Bible wouldn't draw the same ire as it does with other religions.

I completely agree. I believe there are much more elegant and decent ways to protest than burning the Bible. Burning the Bible in front of someone who holds the belief one opposes only serves to either irritate that person or disrespect that person's beliefs. I'm not suggesting religious beliefs should be respected (although I believe religious people?in general?should be respected), but I am suggesting that such actions wouldn't help the cause. If one opposes someone's view, they should have good reasons for doing so, and they should be able to elegantly get their point across, without resorting to childish actions or attacks that do nothing to help further their cause. Such actions would likely turn more people against them, and they certainly wouldn't do anything to convince any of the opposition to change their minds.

What annoys me is that people in this thread and the world think that gays have some sort of hive mind, that a small group of gay people even one gay person speaks and acts for every gay person.

Its ridiculous.

Just because these gays are idiots doesn't mean that every gay person condones it. Why would you judge millions of people by the actions of a few....

I would define it as more of a pack mentality than a hive mind. But in using either term you could apply that beliefe to both sides (or any side since there are likely more than 2 opinions) and how people believe. There is strength in numbers, and when there is a strong enough belief behind that pack then it is very easy to become a mob [mentality].

The owner of Chick-fil-a is speaking for himself and his beliefs. He is also using funds earned from the franchise to contribute to his beliefs. Is he doing so in his name or in Chick-fil-a's name? I don't know but it's a pretty valid question when it determines who should be shamed here. As far as I know Chick-fil-a still employs and serves to ethnicities of all races and sexes. There are also reports that Walmart and Urban Outfitters (to name a few companies) have also contributed to politicians or groups that hold "traditional" values over the more liberal ideas. But is it the company or the individuals behind the company that are contributing?

So just because there are a few people who have money speaking in favor of their values over the values of others does it make it right for all of this backlash and vandalism against these individual franchises that have NOT voiced their opinion? When did teaching tolerance and diversity include practicing intolerance and prejudice? When angered and uninformed it's likely that people will quickly ose sight of their end goal.

What's wrong with that?

Is it not OK to be intolerant of intolerance?

There is no way of effectively going after the CEO, so they hit him where it hurts, his profits.

From what I've heard, the whole boycott thing backfired. And, obviously, the whole "kiss-in" backfired too -- at least it did here. Christians are being slandered as hateful bigots just because they believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. But do we see here Christians heckling a homosexual reading a book? No. We see the supposedly tolerant and loving homosexual advocates mocking an old man (not to mention those who are vandalizing Chick-fil-A). I'm merely showing people the other side of the crowd. The majority hear about how "evil" and "hateful" Christians are, but they never see how "evil" and "hateful" the other side can be.

What's wrong with that?

News flash: behaving like this is making CFA etc. look more sympathetic in most peoples eyes. The days of tolerating boorish, loutish and disrespectful behavior in the name of social protest went out decades ago. The general populations negative reaction to the OWS protests should have taught you that, but I guess another lesson in civility is necessary. Would have been better if mom & dad had done it.

I'm what most Americans would call a Liberal and even I think this is going way too far. If you want to make a protest do so peacefully, vandalism and harassing people are unacceptable regardless of how just you believe your cause is. And it does a cause harm in the long run if it's adherents are perceived to be loutish.

Care to show some proof that same sex attraction is natural? I find it hard to believe from a scientific standpoint. Because according to research that's been done - it can be directly linked to specific levels of brain chemicals. If it can happen in mice it surely happens in other animals and humans.

You're missing the biggest part of the equation: It's not choice, which makes the arguments most conservatives use against gay people wrong. You wouldn't oppress and marginalise a person with Down's so why should you be able to do it to gay people? Oh that's right, the bible says so and we know the bible must never be questioned

We might not have the ability to choose every feeling we experience, but we certainly have the choice to act out on those feelings. A married man might see a very attracted woman on the subway and feel the temptation to peruse her for a possible sexual encounter, but he has the choice to do that or not. We all have areas in our lives like that. For some it's weight control. For others it's drug related. And then there are those whose struggle is sexually. The feelings come and go and they have the ability to act on them or not. From the Christian perspective, we should seek to restrain ourselves from doing anything the Bible prescribes as morally reprehensible. You might disagree and that's fine. I'm just trying to communicate this from my point of view.

Exactly it's not choice - if it were choice then these studies i obviously linked to would prove other wise. I also wasn't marginalizing anyone. You are assuming i'm using the bible as a crutch for my argument which i am not even though i did post what was in the bible in both old and new testaments - and how interpretation can be very different since the Hebrew language isn't the easiest to decode. If you honestly believe that every Christian interprets the bible in a basic fundamental way where it's word for word then i'm sorry you have such incorrect assumption about them.

Why should people be forced to repress their sexuality just because Christians don't like it? Gay people aren't asking you to be gay, they're just asking you for equal rights. If the bible tells you not to be gay, don't be gay, just stop acting as if it also gives you the right to oppress others.

Most of the arguments against homosexuality come from religion, and most of the homophobia in America is due to religion. It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to put the dots together.

IF that's true, maybe they have found a 'cure' for homosexuality. It should be mandatory if true.

Well, that's the thing. The legitimizing of homosexuality as a perfectly normal alternative to heterosexuality also requires that all opposition to homosexual behavior must be delegitimized. Full recognition of "gay rights" means limited recognition of the rights of others. The rule of thumb can be summarized as follows: "We have the right to be ourselves, even if it offends you, but you do not have the right to be yourselves or to be offended. And under no circumstances do you have the right to offend us."

    • Yup, that's a doozy right there 😄
    • It's a bundle of tools created by a variety of people, so things can go wrong sometimes. It's a great addition to Windows, and I use a lot of the tools on a daily basis. Also, it's still a 0.**** release so quick updates are to be expected 😉
    • Oh, I did. And it's even worse than I was hoping! Besides a lot of techno-babble jargon (yes I understand 100% of it but it's still all just techno-babble) there's 2 key points that make me super-weary about even considering testing this out. -- By default, after installation, a relay is automatically set up, so you do not need to care about that. * Non-chatmail apps use email servers as a long-term message archive while chatmail clients use email servers for ephemeral instant message relay. * Supporting the full variety of classic email setups would require considerable development and maintenance efforts, and complicate making chatmail-based messaging more resilient, reliable and fast. -- Basically, the end-user device is the 'server' (relay) so there is NO ARCHIVING whatsoever because every message is necessarily ephemeral. Great for techno-paranoia (and for illicit activities preferring no tracks to cover) but terrible for everybody else. It's also ironically contradictory to engineering principles of redundancies besides the transport layers due to the explicit absence of any persistent storage. Instead of 'classic email address' retaining multi-GB messaging archives on its server, now every device must retain 100% of those storage demands. (Email messages were originally meant to be short correspondences, not the multi-MB attachments boondoggle that now exists with unlimited spam engines flooding every potential recipient.) Any device swap or reset (or loss) makes the entire message history go bye-bye forever... lest there's an off-device auto-archival "relay" mechanism that's really a separate server that holds onto all transported messages (an email server) that utilizes 'chatmail email address' identities (like an email server) and its own persistent storage archive (like an email server). But... this solution is hoping to exist alongside real-world email address identities (based on the email server relay pathway) but simply render messages in chat thread format in an ephemeral manner (with contents being encrypted, and messages auto-expiring) ... In the end, it's a chat app/experience for the Web3/P2P-at-all-costs zealots. (I have accts on all sorts of federated web3 services so I understand the technical and non-technical alike.) For any practical users, however, it's just another service to download/install, register, cross-share id cards/qr codes, but know that there's no history/archive whatsoever (by design) so no account/message recovery whatsoever... update the device, install a bummed update patch, or dare upgrade your device... all history, poof, gone. Ya gotta start everything over again like they're a brand new person.
    • You've tried DuckDuckGo and Brave Search, now get serious with SearXNG by Paul Hill Over the last decade, it has become quite trendy to dump Google Search in favor of privacy-preserving alternatives such as DuckDuckGo, Startpage, and Brave Search. These search engines have done a very good job at highlighting dodgy practices by Google, such as adjusting search results based on what it thinks you’ll like (filter bubble) and stalking you around the web to advertise to you. While these search engines are good starting points when compared to non-private services like Google, there are still quite a few issues with them. For example, both DuckDuckGo and Brave Search require running non-free JavaScript in your web browser, which is comparable to running proprietary software on your computer, meaning you can be sure about what it’s actually doing in the background. Another issue is that these search engines are hosted on the respective companies’ servers, and you are using a service that you don’t control. Finally, DuckDuckGo, while offering privacy features, relies heavily on Microsoft’s infrastructure for its results and, in the past, has permitted Microsoft tracking scripts. If you are looking for a more private search solution than DuckDuckGo, Brave Search, and Startpage, then I recommend taking a look at SearXNG. It is a privacy-respecting metasearch engine that can be used via different public instances, which is useful for mobile users, or you can install it on your computer or server and run it locally with maximum control. Unlike Google, Bing, or Brave Search, which crawl the web and have their own search indexes, SearXNG is a metasearch engine, meaning it taps other search engines, stripping your identifying data, such as IP address, user agent, and cookies, in the process. Your search query is sent to the other search engines you enable before aggregating the results. SearXNG has deployment flexibility. If you are a casual user or a mobile user and don’t want to run SearXNG locally, you can use a public instance that is hosted by someone else. The main problem with this is that you are putting trust in the maintainer of the instance regarding stuff like logs that they may keep; good hosts should have a privacy policy explaining their policies. If you are trying to use SearXNG, you can also install the software on your device and then head to 127.0.0.1:8080 in your browser and search from there. While you don’t have to worry about a third-party admin like the public instances, search engines could ultimately block your IP address if they frown on you pulling in their search results locally. If you want to run it locally, it’s a good idea to use proxies or VPNs to hide your actual IP. You don’t have to worry about this with a public instance, as search engines never see your IP address. The main privacy benefit of using SearXNG is that it isolates your identity from the underlying engines that it’s capable of searching, such as Google and Bing. These search engines will only see requests coming from a generic server, so they can’t profile you and create a bubble filter that influences what results you see. This also ensures that your search engine doesn’t turn into an echo chamber that prevents you from reading alternative points of view. As a free software project, you are allowed to inspect SearXNG to make sure there are no negative features bundled inside. This sets it apart from the privacy search engines mentioned earlier because you can’t check their source code. As a meta search engine, you are not restricted to getting results from one source. Due to the fact that it scrapes content from other websites, your SearXNG instance will periodically get blocked from different providers, so it’s good to select a range of sources as a backup. While enabling all of the services will give you great results, this can make searching slower. I am personally happy with slower searches for the best results, but you can always check which providers are slowing down your search from the search results page and disable them to speed things up. If you want decent results quickly, enable the main search providers such as Google, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Qwant, Bing, and Yahoo. This way, you get wide coverage without the latency. On the Engines tab in Preferences, do note that there are different tabs, such as General, Images, and Videos, with their own providers that can be toggled and are not covered by "Enable all" while on the General tab, so be sure to dig into each. Just a note, if you want to enable everything, press "Enable all" in one tab, then hit save at the bottom of the page, then do the next tab, and so on. If you press "Enable all", then do that in each tab, and then save, nothing will stick. When I had just some of the search engines enabled, I searched “define nefarious” and results came back with the definition of “define” - obviously that was a sucky result. However, when I had everything enabled, it found dictionary pages for the word “nefarious” and even had an inline definition on the sidebar, which is quite nice too - that was delivered by WolframAlpha for anyone wondering! Probably the worst thing about this meta search engine is that the engines you select are saved with a cookie, so you must enable them on every new device you use SearXNG on, including if you decide to go into incognito mode with your web browser. Honestly, I would say this is the most annoying aspect, and perhaps if your browser lets you choose a separate private browsing search engine, then it would be best to use DuckDuckGo for this portion of your browsing. Another weakness of SearXNG is the random blocking of it by search providers. When you are on the results page, expand the “Response time” box, and it will show things like “Suspended: too many requests” or “access denied”. This is why it is good to enable several providers so that there is always a fallback to get results from. I won’t pretend SearXNG will be for everyone, however, if you enable all of the providers and put up with the slower response time, the results can be really amazing. Even if you don’t want to use it as your daily driver, keeping a bookmark handy that links to it is a good idea if you ever feel like doing a deep dive into a niche topic where other search engines are just failing to bring up any good result, due to the amount of sources it looks on. If you’re interested in radical user control over the software you use, installing SearXNG locally can also be a good idea, but be prepared to be temporarily blocked from sites if you trigger bot sensors without a VPN. Personally, I’ve opted to use a public instance, rather than install it myself. If you want to use it via a public instance, head over to searx.space to find a provider. Let us know in the comments if you have used SearXNG or its predecessor, Searx. What do you think about the quality of the results?
    • Dear Neowin, If it is not too much trouble, can you start using the new-ish designations for Insider Preview? "Experimental" is different than "former Dev" as it can apply to different models, eg 26H1 or 26H2 etc, right? No need to seed confusion IMHO. And, please "finally" update your graphics. OK?
